It's not that's its over the top, it just doesn't fit. Electronic keyboards and synth guitar riffs just don't really match with the gameplay. Especially considering the more western art.
It'd be like putting rave music in RDR or heavy metal in Ico.

Well Obviously the Upbeat electronica rock music found in IGA Castlevania's would not work...no one is saying they would, however they could've made an OST that fit this game but at the same time captured the same essence as Castlevania.
Instead of the generic "Epic orchestrated" OST that sounds no different from any other game soundtrack coming out nowadays.
Like I said in another thread,it seems Mercury Steam went to Bioware and was like "Hey do you guys have any throwaway Dragon Age Origins songs we could use for our game?"
I agree that the OST could use more throwbacks such as Vampire Killer or Bloody Tears, I just don't think music that tries to capture the essence of old CS would fit as well as the current ost. You've got to think about it in the context of the game itself, not as a 2D sidescrolling Vania.
It really dont bother me that Vampire Killer or Bloody tears isnt in the game.
But when I say essence,I mean have the same feel, not so much the exact sound of the 8-bit/16-bit games.
for example a dark, haunting, subtle, atmospheric OST opposed to the Orchestrated fantasy/LOTR like music found in LOS.
I must admit,I kinda like Belmont's theme as well as the remake of the Waterfall music from CV4.
