The PS3 Move bundle is too expensive to attract casuals. No one will spend $400 for something that the Wii offers for $200. And since Nintendo already has several AAA motion games, how can Sony expect any casuals to buy their product?

Core gamers who have a ps3 won't buy Move because it will cost $130 to get started playing shooters. You need the camera, a motion controller, and a navigation controller. Why should I spend all this money to play Socom 4 with motion controls when I can use a DualShock 3? Are there any advantages?

Sony thinks it can appease every type of gamer there is. In reality, they will appease no one.

i dont think its the price for casuals.

I have a feeling casuals wont understand how its any different than the wii because on the surface it seems almost identical to the wiimote.

1:1 motion tracking, and depth detection dont mean anything to a casual gamer... as far as they are concerned, it does the same thing their wii does...

The move will be fun for those that want causal games AND (omg there are gamers that enjoy causal and hardcore games) hardcore games on their PS3. Kinect will be fun for some casual games and that's it.

Also TC why the hell do you think move costs $400? lol wtf. Doesn't it only cost $100 if you don't have camera? Check your facts, again. "Explorers are scientists!" And go watch Toy Story 3!!!

People who want casual games AND hardcore games can buy the $300 Kinect bundle. You don't need motion controls to play hardcore games.

I agree. Neither Move nor Kinect will sell significantly. I think Kinect will sell more than Move will, but not enough to be a resounding success.

Who knows. If Kinect gets enough word of mouth, it might actually succeed. If Wii has taught us anything, gimmicks attract casuals.

Casuals don't know what AAA means.

Nevertheless, I agree. This motion sensing crapnology must end. Core gamers don't want it until proper 3D can be affordable.

Casuals, on the other hand, already have a Wii. Sony and Microsoft are just trying to get their share of the cake, but in the end they'll just be wasting money and be appealing to noone.

*facepalm* Where were you when they announced today that the 360 + Kinect bundle would be $300?

Just go back and play that ps3 of yours.....

Both Move and Kinect are trash and i will most likely buy neither. Heck theres a bigger chance of me buying a wii over any of the two when i had already orginally made up my mind that i wouldntbuy a wii.

That's what I mean. They are casuals - they don't have a clue whether a game is good or not unless they've heard it from a fellow gamer. They'll buy anything with "Mario" on it just because they remember SMG and SMG2 being fun.

I like having the option to play with or without motion controls in modern HD level games.

Sony is offering me many Core motion control able games from the get go. (been waiting to get RE5 till Move comes out for example)

Already have an PSeye too.

Though I do believe the parts should be 10$ cheaper.

...

It wasn't referred specifically to Mario, it was just an example. They don't know about AAAs and the System Wars metagames, they'll just buy something because it has a name that recalls something that they liked or because a friend of them told them that game was good.

Kinect has two enormous advantages over Move. It is $100 cheaper and it offers a whole new experience. That's all that casuals look for, really. I won't be buying Kinect but I can see that it has more potential from a business standpoint. If Kinect turns out to be fun, it will fly off the shelves.

And they're pretty stupid for buying garbage gimmicks like those, too, because all that does is just makes it worse for gaming. That's one of the reasons why I avoided the Wii.

A Wii is much cheaper for casuals, especially when they probably already own one.

So to summarize:

For newcomers, Wii is the cheapest at $200.

For someone who owns a PS3, it'll be an additional $100.

For someone who owns a 360, it'll be an additiona $150.

I could see MS taking a bite out of the casual newcomer market despite the price. Non gamers do tend to find controllers scary.

I dont see kinect being a hot seller among the existing userbase though.

Well you will have your regular controller play through, and then a Move play through. Extends replayability.

Well their will be games like Sorcery that will take full use of Move.

Also it could fix some bad controls like RE5 (and Kz3 if they don't fix the controls)

Then there are rail gun like games ( I love rail guns), like the going to be free Deadspace extraction (when I get Dead Space 2)

Then it could really be useful in games like LBP2.

1. Instead of extending replayability with Move, you can buy 2 new games.
2. That could be cool.
2. KZ3 with motion controls would have epic input delay
3. I highly doubt EA would make Dead Space Extraction free with Dead Space 2.
3. Kirby's Epic Yarn looks more interesting.

I would imagine alot of people do on first glance... obviously if they have someone there to show them how to get started they find its quite easy. I have non gamer female friends that look at the wiimote like its some sort of alien technology when i first hand it to them. But then after a brief 30 second explanation they are able to bowl and box with the best of them. But the initial reaction is usually a "what the hell is this thing" type of look. These people sometimes go out an buy a wii after someone shows them how easy it is... but probably wouldnt go out and buy it otherwise.

Kinect has the advantage of needing no explanation whatsoever.. which could theoretically be more appealing to someone whos never owned a game system. Or like most casuals at one point... had someone sit them down with a 360 pad and try to get them to play halo... resulting in them getting overwhelmed and developing a strong fear of all things controller.

Or like most casuals at one point... had someone sit them down with a 360 pad and try to get them to play halo... resulting in them getting overwhelmed and developing a strong fear of all things controller.

"Kinect for XBOX 360" looks like HAL 9000 attached to the bastard child of Darth Vader's helmet and a budget Alienware tower.

The Wii remote looks like a... remote. Everything about the Wii is based around accessibility.

Anybody who finds the ultra-accessible Wii too intimidating isn't going to find Kinect any less intimidating.

These people sometimes go out an buy a wii after someone shows them how easy it is... but probably wouldnt go out and buy it otherwise.

could be right... i was just offering up a theoretical scenario. Which is probably the scenario MS is banking on.

i dont think its the price for casuals.

I have a feeling casuals wont understand how its any different than the wii because on the surface it seems almost identical to the wiimote.

1:1 motion tracking, and depth detection dont mean anything to a casual gamer... as far as they are concerned, it does the same thing their wii does...

markinthedark

if it didnt mean anything why would people buy wii sports resort and WM+ `? :P

so there, casuals love their 1:1 motion tracking

TC makes some good points. Imo Sony should release a special PS3 bundle with less capabilities but more Move functionality, something like 40 gig PS3 with no DS3 but with Move, ET, Navigator + Move title, all for 300$.

Sony isn't really flexible with multiple PS3 versions, the Slim model is great, but cheaper model with less HDD can also boost sales.

Oh this is the extraction that came out last year? I though they were gonna make a new one.

It's in HD, and why would they make a new 1? Extraction sold poorly on the Wii.

the only game I want Move for is Dead Space Extraction, but since I already have it on the Wii it's really not worth the investment until Move has other games that'd interest me

The casuals I know play games for just that: the games. Wii is attractive to them because it has party games like Super Smash Brothers and New Super Mario Brothers. I know a few casual gamers that own the Wii and those two, along with SMG are about all on their shelves. Half of them own a 360/PS3 with nothing else but Rock Band also. These type of casuals aren't going to spend $150 for Kinect when there isn't anything interesting on it that will draw their attention. Oh, another Sports package? Who honestly cares? Move is the exact same thing. While core gamers get to use it for games like KZ3 and SOCOM4 what's the draw to a casual? Come later this year, Rock Band 3 will sell more than both the Move and Kinect because that's what would appeal to casuals, something fun and recognizable.

I can see myself buying Move sometime in 2011 when Dead Space 2, Killzone 3, etc hit. Can't really see myself getting Kinect anytime soon though. Maybe if more games like Child of Eden get announced itcould have a chance of not bombing... but not likely.
