Only 80gb Harddrive? :? Anyway for $10 more you can get Vista Premium 64 bit which would let you use more RAM which you could get for about $40 (4 gb) and then you could really play Crysis

Couth_

Does Crysis require more than 80GB? :P It's only $520, you have plenty of room to switch out whatever you so please for something different.

What all the cheap rigs have in common is their AMD CPU's :P Intel>AMD.. If I were building a rig right now I would start with the e8400 about $165 at 3.0GHz but it overclocks like a beast....

Nope but I have 640 gb and have used 160 gbs and I don't even know what for. I only have a couple games, a few demos and a couple apps installed

Have you seen Crysis on low? It isn't exactly pretty anymore. Consoles could definitly run it on low

Guybrush_3

Maybe a linear version.

I haven't played FCII but isn't it open world? and it's graphics on consoles are better than Crysis on low. (have you guys actually seen what crysis looks like I low?) I am a hermit but really guys, I think consoles could run it on low.

d

360 version of FC2.

s

FC2 is open world but Crysis loads the AI and enviroment all at one while FC2 loads the AI and enviroment in small areas.

Hey, they're cheap ... and they're damn good too. If you go down that said route, you'd have to buy a CPU cooler to go along with it; Intel stock coolers are mediocre.

LOL, show me a pc rig that can play mgs4 with superior graphics. oh wait. Also you do know that crysis is 2 years old now right? Just figured I'd ask.

Half Life 2 on pc looks better than MGS4,and has superior textures, over 720p (no sub HD) and over 60fps.

Yup I have mine set at 3.8 on air, stable. AMD is usualy cheaper, and their new Phenom II X4's are quite comparable to Intel's (obviously don't beat out the higher end intel's though :P )

And you're all forgetting OS's... that support DX10.

walter429

The majority of "money conscious" people are students, all of whom can get a copy of Windows Vista for free from their local high-school, community college, or university. One of the technical departments should have a check-out where they can give out academic licenses, if not, various programs such as MSDN AA and such make it nearly-free, if not free, for students to get a copy of windows. - If you're out of college, and have a job, you should be able to get your work to give you a copy of Vista for your home computer. For example, if your work gives you a laptop for your office, your license key will cover your usage on both your work laptop, and a computer you use at home. In the event none of these options are available to you - participation in Microsoft quality assurance, beta testing, or other such programs will let you get a copy of a DX 10 OS, either Vista or Windows 7, for free. - Given that so many venues for a 100% free copy of DX10 Windows are available to the majority of people in this thread, it seems silly to say "oh, you'll need to buy an OS too!". Chances are, you won't.

That''s nice -- the TC only required a rig to play Crysis. So, I provided such. A 80GB HDD would be more than enough for the OS, some software, and Crysis (Which is only about ~6GB).

Radeon HD 4890(Overclocked)- $245/ $225 (after $20 rebate)

GeIL 4GB DDR2-800 (CAS 4) - $44

AMD Dual-Core Kuma 7750 "Black Edition" 2.7 ghz - $60

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 Motherboard - $75

free-shipping code: EMCLRMR25 (advertised on Newegg.com, gives you free shipping on the motherboard)

Rosewill 630w Active-PFC 80-plus certified Power Supply - $70

Western Digital 320 GB Hard Drive - $50

Samsung DVD-Burner - $21

Rosewill Wind Ryder Case - $45

Sub-total - $610 before rebate
Total - $590 after rebate

-

No shipping or tax is applied in most states.

-

For $590, you can have a system with an unlocked (completely overclockable) dual-core CPU, 4gb of RAM, a powerful (pre-overclocked) high-end GPU, 320gb hard drive, and a decently slick case (which even comes with a pair of 120mm fans), all powered by a solid 630 watt power supply. This system should let you run Crysis on high with a decent framerate.

This build... [QUOTE="Couth_"]

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]

Easy.

  • Foxconn TW-080 NPS Black Steel MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case $24.99
  • Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JB 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 3.5" Hard Drive $36.99
  • MSI K9N2GM-FD AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $49.50
  • HIS Hightech H487FN512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card $150.00
  • Rosewill Stallion Series RD550N-2SB-SL-BK 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply $49.99
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor $59.99
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home SP3 for System Builders $89.99
  • G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $29.99
  • LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30 $24.99

TOTAL: $521.42

Only 80gb Harddrive? :? Anyway for $10 more you can get Vista Premium 64 bit which would let you use more RAM which you could get for about $40 (4 gb) and then you could really play Crysis

Is a better choice than that build. More powerful GPU, twice as much RAM, better CPU, better case, better power supply - simply by using an academic-license of Vista, rather than dropping $90 on XP...

I agree mine broke when I installed it so if I ever wanted to remove it, it'd be no good.. I did anyway but supposedly the e8400 can OC to 4.0GHz on the stock cooler

To preface, I actually game on PCs quite a bit and enjoy building them, etc, but, just a little point; not everyone is either in college or works a job where they even have access to a company computer, let alone letting them take laptops home and whatnot. Plenty of us out there work blue collar jobs or whatever. And are still money conscious. So the OS can still be a consideration. Even with the betas and whatnot.

It's plenty possible to build a great PC for under 600 though, I did it, but I would not recommend it. Spend more in the short run and get more in the long run. But really, when you consider most of the setups that a lot of hardcore console gamers have, and the fact that many own more than one console, PC gaming is not that expensive even if you DO spend like a couple grand on a PC.

[QUOTE="kidcool189"][QUOTE="-Traveller-"] [QUOTE="Wasdie"]

I tried my best. I'm assuming 3 things. One is you have a monitor, 2 is you have a keyboard, 3 you have an OS you can install (I can get free ones through school).

I didn't skip on parts or ram. This will play Crysis at VERY HIGH settings pretty much maxed out. The only part I had to go less on was a cheap PSU, which for another $50 could get you a solid one and you would have a very powerful computer for under $700.

  • COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - $49.99
  • GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3LR LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $84.99
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80580Q8200 - Retail - $164.99
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail - $42.99
  • Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-116DBK - OEM - $24.99
  • SAPPHIRE 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail - $169.99
  • Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM - $41.99
  • LOGISYS Computer PS575XBK 575W ATX12V SLI Ready Power Supply - Retail - $24.99

Total comes out to be $604.92. Ok so not under $600. But lets face it, nobody wants to buy a PC to play Crysis at high settings for only $600. They are going to build a PC that lasts them. This PC is only $600 and it wont be outdated for months, maybe even years. You get a quad core, a solid MOBO, strong case, 4 gigs of ram, a 4870, and a solid DVD burner.

This is a damn fine PC for $600. If you can just find an OS and use your current monitor and stuff this thing will last you for a good time.

You could go with Stevo's build, but his really skips on stuff.

walter429

/thread

None of those will run Crysis at "very high" at anything above 1024x768 with more than 20 fps. None. Just because you're "running it" at very high with one of the... "computers", in this thread... does not mean you're actually running it. And you're all forgetting OS's... that support DX10.

a q8200 and 4870 not being able to handle crysis @ very high? o please...learn the hardware before you start blabbering nonsense

Challenge to hermits, we console gamers play our favorite games everyday for just the price of a regular console. All while you spend thousands of thousands of dollars just to play a high end game. Pathetic

Console gaming>>>>>>>>PC Gaming

Here is one possibility. Future proof mobo/ram (AM3/DDR3)

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dp5mc9p_18cjpbhzff

Swap out the 4830 for this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824

Still under $600
