This has been a point of contention for a while with gamers and I used to tolerate it a fair bit and it didn't bother me all that much but recently because I can't dedicate 4-5 hours a day to straight gaming anymore my tolerance has been fucking tested.... a LOT.

All the games I seem to play in my spare time lately are loaded with it. Splinter Cell Blacklist's intro is full of it, Metal Gear Rising of all fucking games has it (codec calls) and I went back to play Uncharted 2 again (I consider it a fantastic game) and my tolerance for it was just gone. Shit's annoying as hell

So System Wars does cinematic walking get your goat or do you prefer "teh cinematic experience"?

THANK YOU!

Other fun times: Your limber, quick assassins sloooowly walking when he's inside, in Ass Creed. And your squad of of tough brute marines out to save the world slooooowly walking when you get a dam radio call. They have hands free headsets! They could keep moving! GAH!

I think some games force it to mask loading which is inelegant but I can sorta allow it... don't get games that stick it in (giggity) for no reason.

i like cinematic experiences. sc conviction done it really well in that 1 level near the end of the game and cod4 done it well. i also loved uncharted uses of it

i prefer control of character rather than just watching cutscenes, which these scenarios otherwise would have been

Cinematic Walking: The scourge of the gaming inudstry.

I would rather get wallet raped by a F2P game.

I couldn't believe MGR had it. I went from chopping up several dudes into human watermelon to walking down corridors.

Why would you stop me having more fun in your game???

It's like extra bad when fun devs do it like Platinum.

Also the final boss character in that game. His cutscene. Absolutely do not skip that scene. It's amazing.

Never thought of it like that. Could they be using it to load assets for the next level, kind of like Mass Effects Elevator rides?

I can excuse Rising for doing that since it's basically a codec call. In MGS games they always opened up a screen. In this, they didn't, and just let you walk around if you wanted to.

For everything else, it's okay the first time around. Having to do that again though, that's just wrong.

Cinematic walking?

Is that when the game forces you to walk no matter what? If so... then yeah, it is annoying.

Are we talking like 'slowly walking away from an epic explosion while putting sunglasses on' cinematic walk?

A forced walking cinematic is basically like an unskippable cutscene. Really terrible when the story is bad, and you just want to get back to gameplay. Developers should just do away with this practice, although for the "intro" of a game it is slightly acceptable. When they use it multiple times in a game it is hella annoying.

The worst one I recall was Darkness II. It felt like that game was about 5 hours total (short game), yet it seemed to have about 20% walking through corridor sections where the normal game controls were taken away.

Slow walking. Wow. Much Cinematic. Such Art. That is basically how I imagine developers who use cinematic walking, view cinematic walking, except not sarcastically.

If you don't like cinematic walking then don't play those games. You obviously know which ones are like that so why don't you just not play them? Or do you bitch and whine about insignificant things you don't like in the hopes that everyone will agree with you?

I personally don't want it to leave, I want cinematic games just as much as I do non cinematic games because I like variety.

Really now, if this is a big enough problem for you to make a thread about it then you should feel lucky because you have no problems.

Please, take the topic more seriously. Thought people would spot over exaggeration

Plus I never said it ruins the overall game, it's just annoying. MGR is still extremely fun to play outside of the shitty walking around so why would I stop playing the entire game because of it? I can still like a game but hate certain parts of it, something SW seems to not understand with it's all or nothing mentality

Only ones that annoyed me are UC3 and Deus Ex HR. the opening is about 10-15 minutes of just walking, i haven't been annoyed by forced walking in a while but HR opening is the worst.

I can understand, but for me it hasn't ever bothered me in HR, even when I've replayed it. The music at that part really holds it together. As long as a cinematic walking scene isn't too dragged out, it typically doesn't bother me. I'd rather have that than have it go into a cutscene, but I can understand why it would annoy some.

It doesn't irritate me as much as unskippable cutscenes, but it's close since you can't skip past them either. BUT- at least you are doing SOMETHING.

I don't mind it as long as it's not over done. Here and there is cool for story, pacing, or just some dialogue.

Agree fully. Maybe devs do it because they think it's "cool" and they wanna fit in, God bless the daft buggers. Very annoying to have control stolen away for no good reason.

My God, yes! It's so thoroughly frustrating. Even more annoying, is when you follow an NPC, yet walk faster than them... Only to be either hindered, or have to wait.

What's the definition of cinematic walking? Some kind of forced walking speed that takes away player control?

If that's the case, yes it is stupid and there's no excuse.

Assassin's creed is the biggest culprit of this shit

No real definition, people just call it cinematic walking. But yeah it's when you're forced to walk around and listen to conversations or exposition etc.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 had a lot of those moments. Took me right out of the game and broke the pace up too much.

I don't want to sit and wait for the AI to tell me when I can play the damn game. I want full control.

Agreed. Cinematic walking sucks especially when I spent all of last month playing Naughty Dog games.

Batman AA's opening was saved by Mark Hamill but yeah kinda dragged on a bit with all that walking.

Yes I kind of agree with TC but I thought maybe it was just down to me slowly losing interest in games. I have been playing MG Rising on PC and I am getting frustrated with the CODEC calls now. Whats worrying me more is that i wont be able to handle the new MGS games as I know they will be in them and I am a massive fan. Anything that takes me out of the game seems to annoy me these days, unless its an awesome cut scene like the ones in Rising.

Thank You TC!!! This needs to be addressed. it is not immersive in any way, and it brings the gameplay to a screeching halt. If the devs can't put them in the right moments or litter the game with many of them, they should be kept out.

I'm slogging through metal gear rising (awful game btw) right now just so I don't feel like I blew $26.

I'm fine with cinematic walking if there is a reason why you are walking slow. I don't like the Gears of War walk and talk because it forces you to walk slow during gameplay areas. Cinematic walking is usually there to have you absorb the story and enviroment.

Yeah it's really not a problem in most games. The only game that over uses slow walking is Assassin's Creed.

I think a bigger problem in games is open world games having you pick up a mission and forcing you to drive across the map to actually play the mission. There is usually mission dialogue while you drive, but most of the time, there isn't enough dialogue or there is too much.

I hate the parts in the Wonderful 101 when you have to fight during cutscenes that have dialog and pictures that take up the whole screen and are slow as HELL. In the Wonderful 101, of all fucking games.

But, this is what happens when cinema gets mixed with games as it has in the past few years. ...Oh god, Bayonetta 2 better not have any of this shit.

I do agree with Metal Gear Rising.... it had far too many of them for no reason.. for no reason even when you killed a boss you had to deal with it too and they're unstoppable. But i can tolerate it, i call it texting break. Thank god for cell phones. There's always a victim with nothing better to do like myself.

Yea not a huge fan of it.I can deal with it if its just like a minute long or something but I start to get annoyed when is almost like 4-5 minutes.
