of all time?

is it serious?

SolidTy

I don't see how this is so unbelievable, 360 controller is easily the most comfortable I've ever held...

Because the DPAD blows.

It's a great controller, but the BEST OF ALL TIME belongs to a controller that performs Above average in all categories including DPAD use.

I don't really use the DPAD that much...if that's really the only complaint you have with it, how is it impossible for it to be considered the best of all time?  Everything else about it is more than above average, it's excellent, and in my opinion that evens things out pretty well.  If you want to use your own gamepad scoring system though, that's fine.  But if you do, don't expect CNET to use it.

I think it's the best controller I have ever used for gaming. I have all 3 systems this gen and the 360 is my overall favorite. The ps3 controller doesn't fit well in my hands and the controls are not as tight for me as the 360 controller. That, alone with achievements, will be the main reason why I will nearly always get the 360 mulitplat game over any thing else.

It really is a great controller, deserves the top spot. Only controller that could come close is the... you know I guess there isn't. (I've played the Wiimote and SIXAXIS, and everything before it.)

I have not really tried playing fighters with the 360 controller, and I have very little experience with it.

It is, however, quite the contrary with Controller S, a controller I've usead to death with all types of games on the Xbox. Please tell me, which one has the better D-Pad? Because I thought Controller S had a great D-Pad.

Also, the X360 controller is almost universally regarded as the best controller ever, not only from CNET's point of view, but many other sources. I don't understand why people are acting so suprised.

Someone that has experience with both contrllers enough to answer my question? :)

"Did you expect the Wii? Sorry. It's a brilliant piece of innovation, that's not in question, but there simply aren't enough games to judge it against the best controllers ever. The Xbox 360 pad has proven itself over a longer time and on a wider selection of titles -- and it has its own claims to originality.

It's not terribly pretty -- it's beige, for a start -- but the Xbox 360's pad is a winner on several counts. For starters, it was the first wireless pad to come as standard. Its comfy, solid design offers dual analogue joysticks and two analogue trigger buttons underneath.

There's also a built-in jack for connecting a headset, so you can hear and talk to your n00b opponents. Can it be waved around like a magician's wand? Hell no, but this is about serious-man gaming -- there's no time for moving your arms when your thumbs are tapping this fast."

This is the best controller ever made....it is a redesign of the best before it...and the new features are subtle but make this my controller of choice.

NextGenNow
Only difference I see is the L2, R2 buttons and motion sensors, that's all. O and that it's wireless. It is still awkward to hold just like its predecessors. If I definitely want to change something about the PS controller, it would be to reposition the analogue stick. I agree that the X360 controller is a great controller, it's very comfy. It's just that the D-PAD require fixing. gnutux

Most people agree that it was a Dreamcast controller with an added analog stick, and I am one of those people... regardless of how comfortable I think the controller itself feels.

That's cause Sony has the Control for Playstation done anyway yeah 360's D-pad needs to be a fixied. Cause when i play Virtua fighter 5 later this year for 360 i'll be pissed if i have to use the D-pad like in the PS3 demo i played. BTW the PSone and PS2's controler felt Execleent it got 4th place in the countdown

it is just about perfect. d-pad is the only flaw, and it could be worse. everything else is absolutely perfect.Dreams-Visions

You know what?  Funny I should remember this, I was walking down the gaming aisle at wal-mart the other day and saw a 3rd party 360 controller with a whole new D-pad a-la the SNES and NES...I couldn't believe it.

I love the 360 controller. Just wish the D pad was better. Other then that is easily the best controller I've ever had. SpideR_CentS
Yea I agree, but i like the Daulshock's analog placement better. Probably because I'm more used to it.

I still dont understand why everyone hated the big Xbox controler and the N64 controler. To me if there had to be a best it would be a toss up between the huge Xbox one and the N64 one.

The 360's is just nothing special, I would take a Snes pad over it anyday. (Then agian no analog stick may make 3d's hard to play) Either way N64 Xbox then the Snes and Nes then the dual shock and the game cubcontroler... then maybe the 360.... Sorry Lems its cool and all I just dont see how you could say its the best of all time... Infact it hurts my head just to have to type something like this out.

I wholeheartedly agree. The 360 controller is easily the most comfortable controller I've ever used... all the button placements are great, and the two triggers work beautifully.

By the way, people... you need to read the full article.  It's the FIVE best controllers of all time, including the SNES, N64, PS2 and Atari 2600 controllers.

This is what cnet had to say about the sixaxis:

"Some will say that the PlayStation 3 controller deserves to be here, for its wireless and tilt functionality, but many gamers are upset about the lack of rumble. Was it a massive mistake for Sony to lose the vibes? We think it was."

To not put Wii in the top 5 at the least, shows the site is biased. Isn't the 360's controller simialar to the Dreamcast's anyways? Why isn't Dreamcast's there?! Anyways, I still think the Gamecube controller was the easiest to hold, it had the best shoulder pad buttons EVER!
