CoD has ruined the industry.

Every day it seems I hear about how the industry is all CoD clones, or how every developer is boarding the FPS train.

I decided that I agree with that entirely, and began to warn my friends about the future of gaming. They was all like "nuh uh boo, there ain't too many CoD gamez comin out" (I'm boo, btw if anyone was confuzzled), but most of my friends are super casuals who only buy one game or just an iphone app each year. They think they're hardcore nerds, and edit photos that say "GEEK!1!!" in them (just so you have an idea of how anti-hardcore my friends are).

So I decided I would create a list of high rated games from Gamespot this year ranging 8.5 and above for use as troll material against my friends later when they tell me CoD isn't ruining the industry (I get real mad at them for ruining my favorite hobby, but they don't understand my passion).

Anyways I highlighted the CoD Clones / "FPS" games in red that have come out so far this year.

As you can see most every true gamer was right all along when it comes to CoD ruinin' the industry. So many CoD clones on this list it's not even funny!!!!!!

It's just amazing how right I was all along. My friends are going to be so shocked later when I show them.

How do you all feel about the industry? Is it headed towards another crash like in 1983? Is Activision evil? (The answer is yes, and if you say otherwise I'm reporting you).

I don't know, that Toy Soldiers game Just Screams CoD all over it. Same with Catherine >.>

How is resistance 3 a cod clone? Killstreaks? Crysis 2 has the MP however so I'll give you that, and I dunno about KZ, but if it's anything like 2 I don't see how that's liek COD either.

The industry crashes periodically at times where there's a void in sales with no immediate, emerging technology around the corner.

The mid 90's and the rocky transition to 3D games is a good example.

We're definitely entering another mini crash now...not to the extent of the 1983 meltdown, but along the same vein.

COD improved the gameplay of Battlefield games. That's for sure.

Ghost Trick is possibly the biggest CoD clone to come out to date. Did you not notice the kill streak or the addition of perks? Same with Frozen Synapse. All you do is run and gun everyone you see in that game, similar to CoD.

Those three games are not clones. They are way different then COD and look better than them.

Mass Effect at one point was to have a traditional sword-wielding protagonist, like any wholesome RPG. Then CoD came along and ruined that. :o

Well...kind of.

Back in the early 90's, nobody really knew how to approach the next gen.

A ton of systems came (and went), failing miserably.

The:

Amiga CD32

3DO

Atari Jaguar

Sega Saturn

Virtual Boy

Neo Geo CD

(Among others) were the casualties of this era.

When the dust was settled...only the N64 and the PS1 remained.

We're experiencing that same kind of phenomenon today, where none of the console developers know how to really handle next gen.

I hardly would call those games Call of Duty clones..I'll assume you haven't played any of them. Resistance 3 and Crysis 2 both have long single player campaigns and anyone whos played Killzone 3 online knows that there is nothing Call of Duty-esque about "Warzone"

The only thing Call of Duty has ruined is modern gaming. I look at my friend's list on PS3 and I see a good 80% of them playing Black Ops even when new games like Crysis 2 and Infamous 2 are released. People seem to be just fine playing nothing but Call of Duty games but if anything interesting or innovative comes out they will still be playing Call of Duty...that worries me since game sales will suffer unless something eats into Call of Duty's share

If you are blaming COD for spawning a bunch of military first person shooters, you should really be blaming games like rainbow six, counter strike and especially medal of honor (most of the people that made COD came from that team). COD wouldn't even be around if those games didn't pave the way, and frankly if COD didn't exist you'd still have a ton of military shooters coming out regardless, because people would still buy into those games and game companies would be more than happy to pump them out to eager masses.

If anything COD has probably reduced the number of those games coming out mainly because alot of companies know damn well they can't compete with them anymore (not that some don't still try).

I think many people are missing the point and are eagerly trying to defend KZ3 and RS3 and say they aren't CoD clones. That's not the point of this thread.

Read the OP people and take off your goggles and understand what this is about. CoD isn't anywhere near as harmful to the industry and quality of games we get today as it is made out to be.

After reading the OP I expected some sensible replies.

Instead I read lots of irritated cherry picking and people only reading the title.

Haven't played R3 so I can not judge but I also wouldn't consider KZ3 a complete clone. However, it does seem like it borrowed a few things from the series to make newcomers feel a bit more comfortable with playing a different MP.

But yes that's besides the point :P

CoD has proven to be a really, really successful series. The idea that CoD has any remarkable negative effects on the gaming industry is just ridiculous by now.

Crysis 2 multiplayer is basically CoD but with Nanosuits and alien themed killstreaks

I have played both CoD series, and Killzone series forever. I can honestly say Killzone 3 is nothing like CoD.

Resistance is a CoD clone? I forgot the part in Call of DUty where aliens attacked and you had to use your weapon wheel, co-op partner and non regenerating health to fight back.

I think TC should just change the title of the thread because people aren't addressing the actual point of the thread. Waste of time.

Sarcasm detected, I see what you're doing, but you're doing it wrong. Instead of using scores (which nobody uses outside the interwebz), use sales and you'll see THAT'S where CoD and its clones are ruining the industry. Outside of a few exceptions, those games are selling well while the good scoring and different games' sales are suffering because of the peer pressure to buy those popular CoD games and their clones. If it wasn't for all of them, the good games from your list would sell better, and in turn we'd have more and a better variety of the good games. ;)
