i dont know about cod being responsible for less than 10 hr campaigns.
i think its that its hard to crank out games in 2 years with the ridiculously high production values that most games feature these days

Call Of Duty is not ruining gaming my friend. Activision and its business models is having a negative effect on the gaming industry
we are in system wars. we like to bash things we don't like here.At this point, people who dont like cod make more threads about it then people who do like it.

put those three things together and you have a hot steaming pile of call of duty.Unoriginality, hype and lack of focus in general are worse.

GameFreak and Nintendo are doing this very thing with pokemon. But you don't see yearly pokemon, generally Gamefreak works on it for a while and then its realeased. Plus, they have been goin strong since the mid ninties![QUOTE="Timstuff"]
Tony Hawk - DEAD
Guitar Hero - ALMOST DEAD
Call of Duty - ?
Activision's business model right now has been to find something popular, and milk with anual and semi-anual sequels until it's dead. They've already killed two of their three cash cows, and only COD remains. If Activision wants to keep running on this business model, COD is going to have to carry the weight of the two franchises they've lost viability for. And by doing that, they'll end up killing it even faster.

Unoriginalty-Devs hardly take risks in trying something new for big budget games and that's why they stick to the same old we've played for years, thank god for indie devs.
Hype-Don't always believe it.D=
Lack of focus-Seems devs want to focus more on one thing over the other, resulting in half ass games.
While humerous, that picture isn't completly true, just the other day, I was playing Bioshock 2, Minervas den, the maps where much more similar to the one on the left. While gmes like cod have a general path to follow, thats usually how they role, they are an action FPS, just keep stuff happening and blowing up. Unlike Bioshock, where it much more open and explorable, with et pieces occasioanly as you progress through main story bits, with only a few splicers roaming on their own i betweeen (along Big Daddys and the such).yes this has image has been shown before but i think it still makes a valid point in this topic
cyanblues
Cod just needs to go jump in a hole, since cod4 its just gone down hill. And now 90 percent of fps try to redo cod. I want new ideas not cod mods
Bioshock 2
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
All of these games didn't need multiplayer because the people that bought them most likely bought them because they liked the previous entry(s) which were sp only. MP wasn't needed and I think these games could have been better if they didn't include it and had a stronger sp. (Except DS2 because that hasn't come out yet, but I don't think that mp was needed and I don't think anybody was asking for it)

Yes you do. It was only last year that they re-released Gold and Silver (as HeartGold and SoulSilver), now this year they're doing Black and White and nothing will have changed, except for the graphics and world and new beasts.Im just sick of the COD fanboys like you said. I hate how they only play COD and claim that its's the best game ever. I alos hate how they say that your gay if you play mario or halo.
[QUOTE="iAtrocious"]medal of honor is the most obvious in the FPS genre, but games in about every genre are starting to revolve more towards MP like uncharted. although UC2 still had a great campaign, they took a very Cod-ish NP approach with the perks and stuff. the UC 2 boosters were hardly game breakers like in COD. they were merely slight enhancements; fleet footed and down the irons come to mind as being the only competent boosters to even use at all. as opposed to COD; where there are abnch of random nonsense perks.I'm not saying you're wrong, but could you give some examples of multiplayer games that have treaded CoD's path?

It skips around, somtimes 1 year for a sequel and 2 years for others, as long as we are counting the main actual series and not remakes, which I assume is a different team from the main dev team for new generations.I think that might be the real problem emerging, not the game or the franchise itself, but the addiction and attitude it's bringing. A few of my friends have that exact same mentallity, thinking that only CoD is good, and only spending time with that franchise to an obsessive amount, and hating all things else gaming. That's what bothers me.My cousin is a COD freak, he refused to play LBP2 with me because he said platformers are history, and only for kids

[QUOTE="paullywog"]when people get tired of the formula, they will stop making those kind of games.meetroid8Which shouldn't take long since the franchise is being rehashed to death.
shouldnt take long? its already passed the long stage
Quit blubbering about it and buy the games you like. The real people that are ruining gaming are the people buying that garbage. And you've got real nerve to say COD is ruining gaming when you've got a pretty obvious COD sig. And, seriously, here's a hint, if you think Halo is a good example of a game with a story, you're part of the problem. I've bought two, total, Call of Duty games in my life and I will never buy any more. Take a hint, join the party.the games themselves arent whats ruining gaming, i think the games are great. I think that too many Devs are jumping on the CoD boat and trying to make a MP game with perks and stuff istead of trying to do something on there own that could be sucsessful. and now devs are starting ignore single player and storyline. its rare to find a game with more than 10 hours of campaign nowadays.
Gamers are now also just playing call of duty and never play other stuff. my friend came over today, and i was playing halo reach. i asked him if he wanted to play and he said "i don't play games with stupid aliens, do you have call of duty?" i said yeah, and then asked him if he evel played halo before, and he said no. i tried to get him to play it but he was stubborn saying it was unrealistic. so we ended up just playing COD.
again, i don't hate call of duty and play it a lot. i just think it has way too much influence on devs and gamers.

tf2 updates in general has given it a much longer life. i cant even list all the free content we've gotten just the past year.Wouldn't say it's ruining gaming, but COD leveling systems are starting to get annoying. Devs should think of better ways to increase longevity for their multiplayer(ex TF2's trading system)

Guys like him go by the term "fanboy".
Nope, Call of Duty is the gaming messiah, all other games fall far, far, far beneath it.

Not sure if serious.

The real people that are ruining gaming are the people buying that garbage.kinda, but its the devs who try to copy it mostly.
And you've got real nerve to say COD is ruining gaming when you've got a pretty obvious COD sig.i thought the pic looked cool, and im a WWII buff so nice try troll
And, seriously, here's a hint, if you think Halo is a good example of a game with a story, you're part of the problem.where in my OP did i say that Halo is a game with a good story? still better than any COD story though.
I've bought two, total, Call of Duty games in my life and I will never buy any more. Take a hint, join the party. if i like a game, im going to buy it. COD included.
I hate people who whine about lack of realism. Look, I could go on a tangent about all the things CoD does that is unrealistic, but I'll just say that this "fad" of untrarealism is just an illusion. Frankly, if a real war was fought like it is in CoD, lining up and shooting each other would be more effective. The fast paced franticness of each "battle" is no where near the precision militaries have. Casualties are kept to a minimum. Its not about killing more people than that die like the civil war or something. The game does not portray a realistic battlefield in any regard. So why everyone throws a fit over the fact that Halo has aliens is beyond me!
So I completely agree with you. I don't like the phrase "something is ruining whatever" but I agree with you.
And on the topic of Halo and aliens, why is everyone OK with Gears of War? Oh thats right, because its realistic and portrays the real horror and gore of war. Not really.
