I don't think it should die, but I do think it should take a severe hit in the sales department to get Kotick off his high horse. Not gonna happen, though.

From what I've seen the game is nothing like MW2. Even if it was MW2 was a pretty good game.

Well it's the guitar hero of shooters.
If you're ok with activision, it might be best to wait a few versions/months anyway till they work out all the kinks and stuff.
I wouldn't buy one of the early editions especially with so many awesome games coming out.

No. Black Ops looks a helluva lot better than Modern Warfare 2, although that's not really saying much. Treyarch seem to be fixing almost everything Infinity Ward messed up and adding some new stuff.
For example:

• Perks are balanced to a better degree: Commando is out. Stopping Power is out. Danger Close is out. Scavenger doesn't replenish Grenade Launcher ammo etc.
• Killstreak rewards are better and more balanced:. Chopper gunner is less overpowered. Kills from rewards don't give you kills towards the the next one. No nuke.
• Greater customization: We get the ability to change the look of our character. Emblem editing. Greater weapon customization and personalization. WE choose what we unlock and when. The better player you are, the more CoDPoints you get and the quicker you can unlock what you want.
• Wager matches - Gun game, One in the Chamber, Sticks and Stones, Sharpshooter.
• Online and Offline matches with bots, for those that don't want to head online or for those that want to Comp Stomp with their friends.
• Greater assortment of weapons and equipment: Ballistic Knife. Crossbow. Camera Spike. Motion Detectors. Radar Jammers etc.

This is all going by the stuff we've seen and what's out there. Obviously I haven't played it yet. It could also go horribly wrong, like Modern Warfare 2.

Don't buy Black Ops if it makes you feel any better, but those who of us who are going to buy it will enjoy it, I'm sure.

I mean, they now have a camera which allows campers to see the entrances to their camp zones! How can anyone argue Treyarch are not catering to the noobs. Go ahead and buy Black Ops, but Activision will be laughing all the way to the bank and I'll be waiting with a very loud I told you so.

In response to the OP, COD is already dead in the eyes of any self respecting gamer. I will be renting Black Ops, if only to see how bad it really is so I have some experience to argue against those who like it on SW.

treyarch imo is a far better dev than IW. they did a great job with WAW and BO seems to be shaping up quite well.

Although I am not a fan of the series or genre for that matter, why does it need to die? To me wishing a series to die just because I am not too keen on it is just selfish and in many ways immature. Besides look at it this way, it keeps the kids away from the games we play :P.

yes CoD franchise must die as it is right now, what about a CoD game with a decent development time? instead of realeasing a new CoD every dam year or less,, just like lolguitar hero,.. i want a campaign that lasts 13 hours min,.. and a complete and polished multiplayer.. but as long as ppl keep buying their overrated shovelware, they wont see the nescessity of makeing better games at all . People like COD, get over it. It changes just as much (if not more) than those yearly SPORTS games. So cry me a river.

So they company can continue to release the games that are more or less for improvements form the last installment with a new single player story and new multiplayer modes.

Lol, no. CoD has a right to exist, and people love to play it.

Listen, I know it's cool to hate CoD now, but I've been hating on it since CoD 2. I existed before this bandwagon. I enjoyed CoD 1 and I didn't even finish 2. I started 4, didnt finish it... stopped caring at that Chernobyl level.

My point is, just because I hate it, doesn't mean Activision should have their right to sell their property revoked. They want to sell Call of Duty, they can. Hell if they want to MILK Call of Duty, they can. It's their legal right to do so. If you don;t want to support that, there are plenty of shooters that offer what you're looking for.

but i really wish gamers wouldnt give in to the annual release approach activision is taking... the whole madden release model is what needs to die and i hope gamers will stop rewarding companies for taking it.

I bought and played the first COD game when it came out. I hated the fact that you get a bunch of braindead AI-controlled teammates that did nothing to help you move forward in the game. I might as well have been on my own considering how useless my platoon mates were. I never bought or played another COD game after that one because I disliked it so much. I could careless of Activision eventually makes a Lego COD game because I still won't buy it. So let them milk the series for much more than it's worth. If you don't like it, just don't buy it.

I don't get it. If you don't like the game then don't buy it. Why does it bother you that others have the option to do the opposite?

I usually don't like yearly released titles, nor do I like Activision. BUT I've really enjoyed each CoD title so I don't really want it to die. ANd lets face it, they're not going to any time soon with the sales they pull in.
