WTF????

I'm a hardcore lemming and play online more than I play single player games. Lag really pissed me off and XBL is as laggy as it gets.

If they can't even provide dedicated servers for us then I'll just move to PS3 or PC..

50 F'n bucks a year and can't even provide dedicated servers yet the PS3 and PC versions get em..

same thing was with Shadowrun.. the PC version got dedis while the 360 version didn't..

this is so nuts

Live runs of a peer to peer network. Playstation network games are all client - server based. I think that's also why you see games like Resistance with 40 players and Warhawk 32 players on PS3 vs games like Halo that max at 16.

I'm pissed they charge $50 too thats the main reason I don't have Xbox anymore, it's bullcrap because nobody else charges. Nintendo no, Sony no, Steam no, Xfire no, Battle.net no. Just Microsoft.

Any proof that says COD4 on the PS3 has dedicated servers?

Or that Shadowrun did on the PC but not the 360?

Just do as you would do on dedicated servers,

check your ping status.

full bar means no lag.

Man I started a thread about this earlier today about how the PS3 version does not use dedicated servers. It uses exactly the same means of matchmaking that the Xbox 360 version employs - the 1st person who enters a game lobby becomes the host player, and all the following players become the clients.

The host, thus, IS the server and all the other clients connect to the host. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions do this. You can read all about it on the forums of charlieoscardelta.com.

The only thing that is dedicated for Xbox Live and PSN are the servers that arrange and manage the matchmaking and keep track of all the stats for various users who play the game. That's it. Once gameplay starts, it becomes P2P - The Host is the server, everyone else is the client.

MS really shouldn't charge a fee for online because of that. Xbox live runs pretty good for the most part and I like it, but when you aren't running dedicated servers and you are getting paid for dashboard advertising you should give gamers back something, not charge them money. I know I will continue to pay for and enjoy xbox live, but I'd be lying if I said I was happy with paying $50 a year for something without dedicated servers while PSN is free. Doesn't seem right, but I guess I have no choice but to be part of the problem because I enjoy playing games over live. Free is always nice though.

None of that is worth it to me! I played GEOW and Halo 3 and it wasnt as fun as Warhawk or Resistance due to its "sluggish and slow" gameplay online. Only way i played gold live was cause it was free for a month. No way will i pay for that service when the PSN is so fast and smooth online!!

FantasySports00

They weren't really saying anything, they were just assuming. People always assume things.

And I don't disagree with you about Xbox Live. I think that it should be free of charge. However, if you experience lag in certain games, it doesn't mean you will experience it in other ones. Infinity Ward did a great job with the matchmaking code of COD4 and quality code that tests for bandwidth and ping times is very important for games. They took special care in it that other companies may not.

PC annihilates both of them. However you're completely wrong about PSN. Your comments are simply that of a hardcore cow who's never even used xbox live, and therefore you cant understand how it can be THAT much better than PSN, so you assum the two are the same.

PSN has all the main features of XBL for free? Absolute bull. PSN is a bare-bones service. There's nothing wrong with that at all, because it's free, but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Either you're happy with the less feature-filled service for free, or you pay for the fancier package. Simple. As if ANYONE would pay for xbox live if there was nothing there better than PSN.

You got 9 people and need 1 more for a good 5 vs 5 COD4 with friends.

- check friends list

- finds Robert playing Mass Effect

- send Robert voice/text messege "Yo. we needyou afor 5 vs 5"

- Robert, while making mad alien love on Mass Effect gets a lil pop up "Message from Billy"

- activates the voice message while finishing up on his alien love making,

-clicks join session and whalla!, hes in COD4 in a blink of an eye!

-Let's rock.

Wow I've played ALOT of COD2, COD3, Halo 3 And I dont notice much lag at all.

And only times I do its cause of a host who doesn't know his speed is too crappy to host games.

Gamersince81

Gears of War multiplayer was horrible. I got 10,000 kills then never played again. Far too simplistic. As for halo 3 however, if you honestly think resistance online even holds a candle to halo 3 i genuinely feel sorry for you. You may as well be telling me battlefront on the PSP is better than counter strike.

youre paying to be milked. how does PSN have dedicated lag free servers and XBL doesnt? and anyways PSN allready has all the main features XBL does for free

Ninja-Vox

PC annihilates both of them. However you're completely wrong about PSN. Your comments are simply that of a hardcore cow who's never even used xbox live, and therefore you cant understand how it can be THAT much better than PSN, so you assum the two are the same.

PSN has all the main features of XBL for free? Absolute bull. PSN is a bare-bones service. There's nothing wrong with that at all, because it's free, but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Either you're happy with the less feature-filled service for free, or you pay for the fancier package. Simple. As if ANYONE would pay for xbox live if there was nothing there better than PSN.

multiplayer is get online and play, both can do that. the 2 most used features are voice chat and freindslist, both can do that. what more do you want? o yea i forgot you cant download disney movies on PSN...:| i had XBL for a year until i sold my 360 after it broke 3 times.

PSN doesn nothaveunified across all games:

-friends list

-voice/video chat

-invites, game-to-game

-text messeging

-voice messeging

-video messeging

you say it like everyone wants those worthless things, all you need is voice chat and game invites to make online gaming complete.

actually they're not worthless,

but you can say whatever you like to help you sleep better tonight

your right, not worthless, just not needed. I mean its a plus but who cares that much

Well you forgot he has to change disks he doesnt magically join but yes im aware how it works i have a 360 and online isnt as great as lemmings brag it to be... what you said was nice but not necessary

Yeah..it's pretty sad. But CoD4 does run smooth as butter most of the time. It has the best connection I've seen for an XBL game.

You know what is really lame! My XBL account expired last night while playing CoD 4! I thought that MS would at least give a 3 day reminder or even a 24 hour notice! But hell no, I just got kicked off with a nice message telling me they want my money...I just payed $60 for CoD I can't get online right at the moment.

Times like this really make me appreciate PS3 online.

I dont believe you. You're a fanboy. Simple.

To say the 360 and PS3 both have a friends list and voice chat is like saying a mini and a ferrari both have engines... so they're pretty much the same right?

There's no point even talking to you. You're in complete denial.

How?

I said the PC version is the best for online, as always, and that the 360 and PSN online services are offset by the fact that one is very simple but free, and the other has all kinds of features but comes with a price tag.

What am in denial about mr.sony?

like resistance? you FAIL

Resistance only has a server for 32-40 player matches anything below is player hosted and warhawk has for ranked games. If you create a game it is player hosted. COD4 on PS3 does not have a single dedicated server. All the games use player hosting and I really don't understand where everyone got this idea from. This is such a dumb thread.
