So you are saying that you prefer virtual people to real people? Real friends have advantages over online friends that you can actually hit them if they get annoying. Try sending a punch over the intertubes. thrones

and when did i say that???

go read my earlier posts. then comeback.

Yeah it's a lot better. But when none of your friends have any interest in games or just aren't around, online is a decent substitute.

in that case, 8 of you + 8 other online dudes > just 8 of you

and what your describing, is a mini lan party, sorry but your not gonna have lan party every single day of the week. 8 of my friends arent gonna come over to my house every day, they have things to do, thats why, they can log into live for an hour or two from their house and enjoy the company. Thats what online brings, Convenience

mjarantilla

Just because something can't happen every single day of the week, doesn't mean it's inferior. Plus, you are just comparing technicalities, not the experience itself. I'd rather be hanging around my best friends with a pizza on the table battling it out LAN or splitscreen than sitting alone on my couch.

It's just a better overall experience, screw convenience.

once you grow up and move away from your high school friends youll realize how amazing online is. until then enjoy your Sleep-overs.

Once you grow up and learn to value the time you spend with your real friends, you'll realize how much MORE amazing local multiplayer is.

value the time? sorry my cousin who lives in london cant come over to my house in connecticut every weekend. but guess what my 2 other friends can come over, log on to xboxlive and ALL 4 of us can play together.

and guess what we do value that time.

True.

Luckily PS3/360 owners can enjoy both styles of multiplayer, without stupid friend codes that make Wii online too frustrating to even be worth it.

And we can even do both at the same time, with splitsreen online multiplayer.

Nothing beats having your best buds over, eating some pizza, downing some tall ones, and just chilling back.

Not to mention better bragging rights.Re5ident_Evil
Yeah dude, get like 7 of your freinds over, two TVs, and a system link for Halo 3. Let the good times roll. Nothing beats local multiplayer, online just suffices when you don't have your friends over.

So? What about the friends that DO live near to you? Are you saying you'd rather play online with them instead of having them come over? And what if that cousin of yours visits? You'd rather have him go somewhere else just so you could play online with him instead of playing in the same room with him?

Online multiplayer is always just a SECOND CHOICE. When local multiplayer is completely impractical, THEN it becomes an option. But only then, and not before.

No one is saying online is BAD. Everyone is simply saying that local is BETTER, and far, FAAAAAR more preferable if you can manage it. It's not like it's terribly impractical, either.

if that cousin comes to visit, i wouldnt sit in my house to play video games, we would go outside (ZOMG, Crazy i know)

and when we finally do decide to play, we would probably play as i mentioned, 4 friends spitscreen in one team against the world. or a (4 local+4 online) 8 person rumble pit

im not saying online is better than local, the thing is, LOCAL+Online > local, too bad you dont understand the concept

Well, I'm saying Local competitive is better than online competitive, even if it's online competitive w/ local co-op.

Deffinetly agree and games like Rock band prove this

You dont feel like a band when your online playing with random people but when your in the same room as them jamming along it gives you the feeling :)

Confirm, unequivocally. Not only is the thrashtalk better (as long as "Chuwero" or similar words don't pay a visit), I can manage to humilliate and embarrass my friends with my victory dance :D

Seriously though, my best gaming experiences have always been with friends over and having a riot - forget competition, forget "winning" - even in co-op. Just having fun, having thrash food and cold ones, and letting the hilarity roll. Heck, my TV center (and the bedroom next door) is designed specifically for such sessions - up to and including some mad LAN action.

once you grow up and move away from your high school friends youll realize how amazing online is. until then enjoy your Sleep-overs.

Unreal_393

So, do you prefer to play online with your friends instead of actually being in the same room playing?

You're either stating this or missing the point entirely. The thread has been about the online experience being unable to top the offline experience, and so far it's true. That you cannot have it everyday is irrelevant. It's like saying that McDonald's is tastier than Morton's because you can't afford the 48oz Porterhouse every single day. Your condescending attitude is not helping your case, either.

No thanks. Most of my friends act like idiots, so I don't want them over my house drinking. I don't drink, nor like to eat fattening foods (pizza) any more than I have to. I would rather have them stay at their house and drink while playing on their PC/PS3 against me.

you and your buddies against the world is better than playing 2v2s.

Depends.

Sometimes I don't feel like having friends over. But usually Halo 3 style spiltscreen PLUS online.

We just all play off my account using splitscreen.

Best of both worlds.

Not really some games are ment to be played online and are crafted so.

Take the first person shooter genre.

When playing online you're plugged into a community.

I can talk to people I've never met before. Express myself through tags. Go play the game altered through the mod community etc.

However there are some games that are made for local play.

Fighting games for example is a genre that's solely for local play.

When playing locally you meet new people, can get tips and tricks (as well as vice versa) and overall feel a huge amount of tension. Online hover you can't meet new people since it's rude to talk during a fight, that also takes out getting tips and tricks hell most people are too stubborn to loose that they disconnect, and let's face it the tension is nowhere near local play.

This explains why when DoA, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and the likes added online as a new feature sales didn't change at alll if anything they went down.

I wouldn't be surprised that if Brawl will be more popular locally then online.

Let's face it the average hardcore gamer isn't too social or at least used to playing games with their friends, however the average gameplayer does these things on a regular basis.

All I'm going to say is this, if Wii Sports focused on online would it be popular as it is now?

How about playing them online? So you don't have to go anywhere. The eating and chilling part is not part of playing video games...

The average age of this site is well below legal age to down tall ones, let alone they likely don't even know what a tall one is ;D

How true.

I just throw them out the door.

When they're not looking I nudge the media cable out of my 360, forcing it to flash the four red lights when they try to play it. Then I scream at them that they broke my 360 with the RROD and have to give me $400 to buy a new one (plus tax).

I have to get three new friends each week. :(

Yeah splitscreen and coop are way better than just online. Also i prefer a well put together singleplayer only game than a multiplayer game. If i didnt have uncharted or ratchet and clank i dont know what id do. COD4 online and warhawk get boring.

I dont understand. Online play isnt mutually exclusive with being in the same room with your friends. Online is the medium not the mode.

You can all be there in the same room playing online.

I like everything about online.

1. You don't have to invite your friends over to play together.

2. If they are here you can play other people online with your friends with them beside you. (In some games)

3. If they aren't here you can play with them and other people.

I hear that, man. My friends come over and drink all the beer in my fridge - fresh stuff, from the brewery by my office. When I go visit them, they have Miller Frickin' Lite. It just doesn't seem fair.

So many people in the thread have agreed.

Why are we seeing split screen taken out of a lot of games? UT3, Motorstorm, Burnout Paradise...

:(

A few times a couple of my friends came over and brought their PC's and we played UT3. It was pretty fun. :P

We're looking for a new game to play now though, since one of them has different tastes than the other guy and me.

I'd rather play online. Every time my buddies come over they eat all my food and I have to go buy more. *Sighs*Vandalvideo

lol, a lone hermit manages to troll the topic.

[QUOTE="TreyoftheDead"]You are kidding me, right?

It seems you are the one who hasn't grown up and moved past high school. Instead of attempting to counter my argument you insult me. Really mature. :|

Unreal_393

you want me to counter your argument, when you make comments like "screw convenience"..............

make sure you make "mature" comments next time if you expect "mature" answers.

Please tell me you aren't still on about a simple word like "screw."

Listen, pal, it's just a word. The fact that I used it at the end of my post doesn't make my opinion any less mature, so jump off your high horse and respond without insulting me.
