I lold at the article, especially since you can't just read the title of it. get ready for a GROD sticky in the 360 forumKevinButlerVPits coming. MS did improve a bit since 08 but problems still keep popping up and yeah, another huge thread will be put on in the 360 forums.
This is epic! *Hey hun, we won't have to worry about the white bedroom light burning out because we have a clear one now*

You're putting your own spin on the article and it's not even slightly clever. The article is saying that the failures will now be signaled by a green light. It doesn't say anything about a green light somehow being the fix for RROD.

We got all primery colors :o now we can call captain planet to fix all consoles
Green isn't a primary color.
Blue, Red and Yellow are. :P
Blue and Yellow make Green, so we're 2.5/3.0 of the way there. (even though decimals aren't supposed to be in fractions)
Oh sry, you right lol ^^' i rushed with joke a little ;)

Looks like MS is pulling out all the stops to get away from the dreaded RROD term, but not actually improving hardware failure rates.

The new Xbox isnt even a week old, there's been no reports of them dying and yet you say that?.
It's pretty amazing how he made the leap from "green will signal hardware failures" to "they're not improving hardware failures." A leap of logic like that takes some effort.
I think it would make more sense to simply wait and see.

MS's track record this gen. It appears that every time it is said to be "fixed", it turns out to not be the case and more and more problems pop up with every "improved" version. I dont think this "slim" where MS didnt even bother to fix the drive issue will be any different. Thats how I feel.[QUOTE="Snugenz"]

Really I think the guy is dead on. RROD has been a long spindly thorn in the side of MS for a long time. Heck you could argue that giving the theater members a free 360 was a sad admission that if they were sitting there one of their old 360 had already RROD on them.Thats great and all... But shouldnt they have done this redesign like.. Idk 5 years ago or something?..

Can you link them?
As for their track record, track record, believe it or not, is not a particularly good way to predict the future. If MS gets it right this time, their track record won't mean anything in regards to the slim.

Heck you could argue that giving the theater members a free 360 was a sad admission that if they were sitting there one of their old 360 had already RROD on them. The new green light could very well be an effort to get away from the stigma of RROD. Or maybe there's another reason. We really don't know. But even if they did put in a new green light to shake off the stigma, that doesn't mean that they are not improving failure rates. There's nothing in the article that indicates that they are not improving failure rates.
Again, wait and see is the better attitude.
Where is the evidence that it isn't improved? It's kind of hard to test for it until it has hit the market, other than get it down as low as possible. They can't mass produce a million units and then play them to see if it gets GROD. Wait and see, I'm sure it will be fixed. The failure rates will be down in all likelihood.Looks like MS is pulling out all the stops to get away from the dreaded RROD term, but not actually improving hardware failure rates.

If this redesign does get rid of RROD, I agree completely.
part of the GUFU now, eh:P
get any backlash for being affiliated with them yet?

No, not yet, but I'm prepared for the worst. 8)
But once I get one of those pretty AdobeArtist sigs to replace this giant placeholder sig, that'll make up for any backlash.

sorry to go off-topic, the aforementioned GUFU sig warranted the comment:P
anyhow, good luck.
after spending over a billion dollars on a 3 year warrenty plan. i think its safe to say the new 360 is the safest system on the planet....

doubt it.
Jasper revisions drowned out RRoD a lot as is. 2% first year I think+(Square Trade)? so yeah....this thing has vents covering 35% of the top and it has a better cooling system.
a sticky won't happen;)
I wouldn't take Square Trade as a good source for the singular reason that if the repairs are under warranty, they'll likely go to MS without ever touching Square Trade; thus they can not provide an accurate statistic for that which they can not track. Square Trade is an insurance policy for the unknown quantity that is the used 360 market. That all being said, the general roar of RROD has subsided considerably over the years and I would think MS would have the problem licked with the last revisions and especially this one.no, not at all, it's a completely redesigned motherboard, it uses far less power, and the cooling for the size of the chip is actually overkill, the vent in the top has a high powered fan underneath attached to the top of a heatsink over the chip, do you honestly think MS are stupid enough to make the same mistake twice?"According to these specs, the "new S console" is about 17% smaller than the original and also physically incapable of getting the red ring of death. No, that doesn't mean the console won't break -- instead, the Xbox 360 slim lacks a red "ring of light." If your console runs into some fatal error, expect it to flash green."
RROD became GROD. That's all that happened. =P

I'm not quite sure as to what the aim of your post is. It is physically impossible for the new 360 to emit a red light because Microsoft replaced it with a green light. That's all my post was saying. Whether or not the likelihood of getting GROD is lower with the redesign is yet to be seen.

sorry, i thought you where one of these silly people that actually think a redesigned motherboard with overkill cooling would have the same problem as the old motherboard, for a single 65nm chip, the cooling system in the new slim is overkill, and less power=less heat, i doubt we will be seeing the same level of hardware failures that we saw with the earlier modesls, again i apologise for jumping to the wrong conclusion[QUOTE="HavocV3"][QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"]I lold at the article, especially since you can't just read the title of it. get ready for a GROD sticky in the 360 forumRenegadeSynapse

That all being said, the general roar of RROD has subsided considerably over the years and I would think MS would have the problem licked with the last revisions and especially this one.but they can provide a fairly accurate statistic for the units that they HAVE recieved, i can tell you that the gamestation where i live has only had 14 RROD returns so far this year according to my mate that works there, so it's still there with the older models, just not as bad as it used to be.After five long years of troublesome RROD issues, some Microsoft executive comes up with an idea: "I have just come up with a brilliant idea to remedy the RROD problem! Watch, and learn... *Removes the red lights from the 360 console* Tada!"Nerd_ManXD Exactly - 'My god, he's done it!'. Imagine an earlier boardroom discussion: 'Damnit, how do we stop losing money to RROD problem? Boffins, get to work!' .... 'Wait a minute, what if whenever the system is about to RROD, a self destruct sequence is initiated!, That way, there will be no more RROD!' 'Jerry, you may just be on to something...'
XD I can't believe some people actually thought it would be impossible for it to break. XD Nothing personal to anyone, it was just hilarious the way some of you seemed to perk up as if all the bad things had finally gone away. XD Well, at least they can't be sued for RROD anymore.Indie_HitmanThe fact is that it won't have a GRoD spree like the RRoD. The main reason (or atleast a very big reason) for the redesign was to fix the error and heat issues.

 RRoD is no more.
Well that goes to show ya theres more then one way to skin a cat - dam MS, thats genius..
No really. :P
The heatsink and fan make up 1/3 of the motherboard, i doubt it'll overheat and lead to other problems. Why would MS redesign it just for it to be attached to the negative stigma of previous models? That's the whole point of a redesign. New image, iron out problems.
On a side note, at first I thought it looked terrible, but it's actually not too bad.
why in the difference chart it says *power button* and Eject button* for the new slim model has *Capacitive touch*....what's that mean?

No harm done! I would be shocked if the 360 still suffered from frequent RROD/GROD's after the redesign.
