i love it how people like to rewrite history

every article written from every publication before the PSP's release predicted the PSP to demolish the DS with it's superior graphics, multimedia capabilities, and expected playstation's dominance in the console market to easily transfer into the handheld market. people need to remember that at this time, the playstation brand was at it's peak. it was dominating the console industry in a fashion never seen before in history, while nintendo was at it's lowest point in it's history. therefore, it was very easy for many to predict that the PSP would win.

now everybody wants to say that the PSP was the underdog, when in fact if you were around before the PSP's release to witness it's hype, you would know that the PSP was heavily favoured by pretty much everybody

DS was the underdog, and still ended up obliterating the PSP in the market. sooner or later, everybody's going to have to accept this fact.

Almost everyone (me included) though the psp would crush the ds just like the ps2 crushed the GC. I mean hell...it had great graphics and a better launch lineup. It's amazing how quickly the situation reversed itself with nintendogs, advanced wars, mario kart, animal crossing, castlevania, etc...

Are you this naive to think that Sony actually thought they would sweep it by storm by entering a field where Nintendo had the SOLE MONOPOLY for nearly 20 years? Not to mention the Gameboys beat superior hardware handhelds before.. The PSP was nothing new they havn't seen.. The PSP was the underdog, the Gameboy already had a immense fan base to begin with.

And the DS did not murder the "lousy excuse".. The PSP is selling quite well as well... I consider both a great success in my book.. Also need I point out that the PSP has more AA's then the DS by a significant amount infact.

I wasnt one of those people who said the DS will die, but please dont try and state that the Wii will suceed because the DS did. The Wii is completely different. The DS has great 3rd party developers, great controls, and doesnt feel gimmicky. The Wii is the direct opposite. beinss

i don't own a DS because im not much of a portable gamer but if i ever felt the need to go portable the DS would be my choice.

i borrowed one whilst going on a long coach trip and it kept me occupied, the only game ive actualy liked on the PSP is worms.

Hurray, the system made by the company with the dominant market share and loads more experience in the field wins again! :D

Yeah, now that the PSP has been severely owned, the PSP is the underdog. Why didn't people say that in 2004?

Nintendo has been making handhelds for quite a while. This is sony's first....... do you really think nintendo was the underdog here?I guess microsoft wasn't the underdog last gen right?. The only reason people made such a fuss about the PSP was its capabilities as a handheld and we all know the strongest system doesn't always come out on top. *Looks at xbox, looks at ps3*

I think you need to go back to 2004 and see for yourself how people were just as convinced that the Playstation brand would make the PSP destroy the DS.

I own a DS

I LOVE the PSP

Not because it has great games (Honestly cant think of more than 2 titles worth buying on it) But because it gave nintendo competition in the handheld market. One of the saddest things about the GBA is, while some awesome games existed, it was horribly bogged down by games so horrible because of a lack of competition. Without competing companies you get a lack of effort and bad games. This is true in all markets and its what makes me happy that there are three main consoles.

So to PSP owners, good luck, I hope your little buddy will fare better in the future.

Poor PSP...Sony overpriced it at launch for the US, they didn't give a care about the fanbase they were marketing to, and because of that piracy on it is rampant, software sales are garbage, developers have pulled out support, and the systems future is looking more dead than the PS2.

Topping it all off, the PSP-2000 was a needless redesign, unlike the DS Lite. Lets hope Sony gets their priorities straight next time.
