No, because a lot of them only play with like 30 FPS on games at 720p (or lower). Not to mention they're also on like low to medium settings.
Crysis is as impressive as any console release, if you want to judge it like that. Has there ever been a game as ahead of it's time, technically? And it still looked amazing on the 8800's that were coming into mass popularity then. Considering the various hardware configurations, isn't that more impressive than Sony giving all the support in the world to Naughty Dog/GG that enable them to push the PS3 so far?
No, console games have 1 or 2 setups that the company optimize for. It is a given that with the right amount of time they will get better performance than PC games as there are less setups to optimize for. If anything I think a PC game that runs amazingly at low specs should be getting the praise due to the harder nature as opposed to the console game.
That question is not reasonable.
We Hermits are still playing games based on 2005 console spec with our 2011 hardware.
I mean Consolers play the same games we do, it's just that we play them at 200 + fps.
Developers, how many FPS are enough for you 500? Get serious, please!
How many major PC games are optimized for low-end hardware anymore? I don't hate PC gaming by any stretch, but the truth is that they're not very impressively efficient. No, console games have 1 or 2 setups that the company optimize for. More so than a lot of PC games, yeah, but there are also tons of PC games that are really impressive in utilizing the technology of the time. Hell, look at Crysis. If it was easy to make a game look that good just by throwing more hardware at it, it should've been surpassed in months, but it's still a graphics king contender after three years.
I'm not sure waht this has to do with anything. :|Well, both the PS3 & the 360 are the most powerful home gaming consoles to date, so...

yes. because there is flat out no game on the PC (running on a 7800) that would lookas good asuncharted 2. not even close. even at 720p. even at 30fps.

The majority are.
Of course consoles are more impressive, but you also have to consider the fact that the hardware is not variable on consoles, whereas on pc, developers have to take in account a wide range of different hardware, therefore being a lot harder to optimise for. Also the developers have had quite a lot of time to get used to the console hardware, which we can see games getting progressively better throughout a consoles lifespan.

False. The 360 isn't even on the same level as the PS3. The ps3 outclasses the 360 in everyway and is the most POWERFUL console in history.

Wrong. Both the PS3 & the 360 are very equal in specs. I don't know why people like you keep thinking this.

I take it by something like, are the graphics on consoles more impressive this gen than the home gaming consoles last gen, etc.?

UC2, KZ2, GoW3, MGS4 > anything on the 360 by far . 360 maxed out in gears 2 and the PS3 just kept pushing the graphics boundary forward.

LOL. 360 is in no way near maxed out. Plus it's the developers who have the experience & talent to make games better looking, not the hardware on the system itself.
Plus you might want to look at games like Gears of War 3, & Rage on 360.

Alan Wake looked as good or better in certain areas; Forza 3 - although a racing game - trumps 'em both. The reason the 360 hasn't had its bar pushed is because it's had less in the way of big-budget exclusives over the last couple years - which isn't a major issue outside of System Wars (not that I'd expect you to believe that or anything). How many major PC games are optimized for low-end hardware anymore? Amnesia, Battlefield 2, Street Fighter 4, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Just Cause 2 (Looks better and runs far better on minimum specs alone that can near max, if not max it out,) Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2, Arcania Gothic 4, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source, Mass Effect 2, Torchlight...
No really, I could go on. Heck I played Crysis on high/medium on a 7800GS around 10-30FPS except for the last levels (Snow and boat absolutely killed it, snow not so much but boat was near unplayable on any setting.) Optimized? Not all of them, but they should run at/near console level visuals at 720p with some games at their absolute minimum requirement or a bit above. If you want all the eye candy at 1080p+, AA, 30FPS+, ect, then you obviously need better hardware. With a good dual-core CPU and decent video card that was made for gaming and not simple tasks such as video playback, ect, then games are playable from hardware that came out before this-gen consoles.

If you seriously believe this, then I really hope you aren't holding your breath as you're gonna suffacate soon. The consoles are nearly maxed out, all 3 of them. IMO they are already. There isn't much juice left to squeeze out of them if any at all. Even if there was, it'd be highly more efficient to do the exact same thing on more powerful hardware. Since consoles lack that ability, you have to wait till next gen to get a huge leap in visual quality. I mean, Halo Reach which is supposed to be one of the best looking games on the 360 isn't even HD and has bad FPS issues.
Oh ya, 95% of Gears 3 shots posted end up being bullshots. Regardless if those scenes are actually in the game, if it isn't being rendered in real time then it isn't legit. I expect it to be better than Gears 2 as Gears 2 doesn't even match Gears 1 on PC from screenies I've seen (and yes I do own and love Gears 2.)
I'm ready for the next-gen. It's been 5 years and we should start hearing word about new hardware. Nintendo and Sony knows whats up. 3DS seems to be the first out of the gate and PSP2/PSP Phone will soon follow. I expect news about their next hardware this E3/CES/this year. Microsoft seems to want to stay with it's current crappy console (Hardware reliability wise. My FIFA 11 disc was just eatten up today by my sub-launch 360. Good system, worst reliability by far. You can't really refute that with the numbers,) and push Kinect hard as well as "Xbox Live" for mobile phones. It honestly seems as if they're trying to push themselves out of the console race.
I'm impressed by the PS3 graphics on a plasma Tv but what amazes me my original Xbox with s-video on the same TV looks amazing! My options are vastly more improved over the PC. I guess it is all subjective.

for his statement to be false, there would need to be two home consoles more powerful than the 360, not just the ps3.The ATI HD5570 is one of the cheapest video cards available capable of playing games. Even though it is still somewhat faster than what the consoles gpu's offer. In this review it gives you an impression what even a HD5570 can do with multiplat games.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5570-review/8
Here they test it at a minimum resolution of 1280*1024 with maximum AA and detail which is a good deal more demanding than 720p on consoles. Yet you can see that even the HD5570 sets a prefectly fine average of 30fps or better in the games that aren't pc-exclusive or DX11. What i'm saying here is that it looks like the pc can do the same things with limited hardware as the consoles.

ehhh...it looks impressive because of the hardware. if you gave it something that is just as good as the PS3's specs, it won't even look that good. compare that to how good Uncharted 2 looks. no matter how you spin it, Crysis wouldnt look as good if it ran on a 7600GT.
it was ahead of its time simply because the requirements are too high, nothing more.
I've looked at screenshots of console games here. I don't see what's so impressive about them - they're basically "shiny" "shiny" "shiny".
No, most console games look crappy and I can't be impressed by that. I'm by no means a graphics whore but PC has much better graphics no matter how you spin it.
Garbage? Maybe it's just me, but 720P at 30FPS is very playable ?Pound for pound it is impressive, but it's still garbage 720p and 30fps

Obviously he is right and you are wrong :P
You obviously havent seen the current Gears3 build yet. Looks as good as anything i have see on PS3.Also RDR is probably the most technically impressive game available now.
[QUOTE="mo0ksi"]With exclusives? Arguably. Multiplats? Nope. Red Dead Redemption is a very impressive game technically.Speaking from a PC gamer who has both consoles they are no where near impressive. When your playing games at 720p no AA and at 30fps. With all the help from optimization aswell its very old tech and you can see it.
