I am so frustrated. Every time I play a first person shooter on either PS3 or 360, the controller makes me go crazy mostly because of the aiming. I tried Halo 3 and Killzone 2, but after only 10 minutes, I stopped playing because I just couldn't handle the aiming. It's frustrating. I have a lot of fun with Bioshock for the PC and the Conduit for the Wii. But analog controllers for the PS3 and 360 make me want to punch a person on the face. Why does it takes so much efforts just to aim and kill a target?

Your having trouble with Halo 3 and Killzone 2? Both games that use auto aim and were built for the controller itself? Sounds more like you just FAIL at aiming thats all.

Totally agree. There are some games that are better played with a controller though.. For FPS keyboard and mouse cant be beaten yet...

I used to play shooters with mouse/keyboard a lot, but one day I broke my arm. I couldn't play shooters on PC anymore because I have to move my whole **** arm to aim. Why does it take so much effort to game on PC? I've been playing console ever since.

Try changing the sensitivity or something. The PS3 controller is just fine to me and KZ2 is not the best game to play to get used to FPS on the PS3 lol.

Beats me. Clearly, at least 8 million people have figured out how to play Halo 3, so it's possible.

no but i think that hes trying to say that he was able to only play console FPS's during that time as it used his whole arm to play PC ones, and realized that he prferred the console ones.

this^ Also in my opinion aiming on consoles is alot harder because it all lies in the thumbs were as pc shoters are all in the wrist if you spend most of your time on pc's i would imagine it would be a hell of alot harder to aim on a pad, in my case i play alot more console shotters than i do pc so when i play BF or crysis on my rig is hard to keep up with how fast you can turn but in about an hours time i always seem to ajust IMO i would think it would be alot harder to go from PC to console.

i consider it REAL SKILL if you use a controller, any1 can point and click with a mouse or the wii mote, it takes hand-eye coordination to line up enemies in your sight and gat em up. SKILL.

No one ever said they were great. That's why there's autoaim on consoles. ...As for me, I suck equally with controllers and keyboard+mouse... so I'm kind of a lost cause at first person shooters :?

You're simply not used to that method... it's ok. I'm not as great on PC shooters as I am with Console ones, but I still can work both just fine.

You know it's funny... I am willing to admit that PC's have better graphics, better sound, better overall presentation, and a big community. However, I feel that even though aiming with the mouse is great, using the Keyboard in an FPS is horrible. I am pretty decent at both COD4 and COD5 on PS3 and 360 but when I play either one on a PC, I am horrible because of the confusing controls. IMO, it's so much easier having just 2 analog sticks for moving, sprinting, aiming, and using your knife as opposed to having six different keys for moving, sprinting, and knifing. I agree that the mouse is better when it comes to aiming, but overall I would much prefer use a controller.

Well after all the opinions there's a valid reason why you find it hard. The range of movement you have for the thumstick (analog) is *tiny*. This must allow for you to cover the whole screen.

Compare with a mouse, and you have maybe 5-10 times as much leeway. What tends to happen with controller is that you make it sensitive so you can aim ok, but if you do this, your turing will *absolutely* suck, ie be slow. With a mouse you can aim accurately and turn; moreover newer mice have a *dynamic sensitivity* change button so you can change the sensitivity for headshots and rapid turning.

The controller is no comparison really, its a terrible tool for FPS; the reason Halo has the weird slow floaty jumping is to accommodate the how bad the analogs are at concurrently aiming and turning well. People who are good with analogs are kinda like people who learned to shoot well with a musket when PC users are using rifles. If you want to be good at console shooters your going to have to train you muscle memory for your thumbs and your hand-eye co-ordination more; it also helps if you started doing it as a kid.

Not in an FPS it doesn't. The stick is used to set the rate of angular movement. It's not required to map to the area of the screen in any way, shape, or form. With the exception of Resistance 1 (and for only one extremely odd weapon, at that), the cursor remains fixed in the center of the screen.

Were did you hear that auto aim is off for online? Halo 3 and Call of duty 4 both have their auto aim enabled during online play. And you can disable auto aim for single player but I was talking mainly about multiplayer.

The Controller didn't bother me too much until i played Metroid Prime 3 for Wii...The Wii would have awesome FPS'...if it weren't for the online which can't handle a lot of people i suppose! Metal of Honor i heard is good...Conduit is too mixed to know, unless you play it. And the fact is, there aren't really that many! I would say this... PC>Wii>DS>PS3/360 for control! DS could easily be number 2 or 1 (i havn't played too many FPS on a PC to know for sure) if it weren't for the fact you run out of room on the DS touch screen!

You need to play it alot longer than ten minutes. I am a PC gamer and when I first got my PS3 (was stolen and saving for a new one), I wanted to get into console FPS, so I downloaded the Resistance demo and played it for about ten minutes and gave up just like you because I couldn't play it do to being so use to playing with k/m. Well I forced myself to play it and play it and play it. After about 2 hours, I started to get the hang of it and was glad I did. Sounds like you are having the same problem. Just stick with it and it will come back to you just like it did me. Don't get me wrong though, k/m will always own a controller when it comes to FPSs.

Exactly. After practising for a while aiming becomes effortless.

Its true that you will never get the rapid precision of a mouse but that is why most console games have tons of aim assist.

Eh, its not that difficult if you have only played consoles. I remember buying Halo:ce for pc a while back and not finding the kb/m controls all that amazing like most people say they are.

No, it takes way more skill playing the game with your eyes closed, your hands tied behind your back, a tennis ball in the mouth. Fanboy logic ftw.

it all depends on how the game is designed. A good developer designs the enemies' capabilities around the player's capabilites. I would say that console aiming is more realistic than pc aiming.

Halo 3 and Killzone 2 both use auto-aiming. How can you be missing so much? I think you just can't aim properly. :S
