Yeah I personally think Killzone 2 looks ugly based on the fact that it seems to use the color grey exclusively.

I can't think of a single game that could beat Gears of War 2 in 08. It's not a monumental improvement over the first but what little improvements there were make the game look far better than the first in my eyes.

No, not really. The game really is rather unimpressive. The environments are lacking in textures/detail, and the character models look straight out of a fighting game. They look like plastic and just check out Meryl's hair. It's way overrated in the visual department, to be honest.

MGS4 isn't really technically advanced, its native resolution isn't HD, it has lower poly characters than those seen in gears 1, and has a average frame-rate below 30FPS.

Those don't help your cause but rather support my statement, gears 2 is gears 1 with colours and a little added details to small things. Fortunately it will still look better than most games.
