I was thinking more like an apartment which has been slow cooking Menudo all night.

There is already close to zero reason to buy a PS4/Xbox one. The Steambox will put the final nails in their coffins the generation after this one. I don't see it doing too well this generation, tho.

I see the Steam Box as having a really tough time capturing a corner of the market. My sense is the PC gamer who uses their PC as a dedicated game system connected to their TV is a relative minority of the Steam ecosystem, and that many of those people will prefer their own PC to a prepackaged SteamBox. Even for people interested in the SteamBox, losing the ability to do other work or manage the family finances or photos may be a tough sell, and the others are invested in Steam as a "secondary ecosystem." For example. Steam is a secondary ecosystem for me. I play Civ V and indie games on my ultrabook and don't plan on building a gaming PC at this point. I also don't see myself moving toward the SteamBox, because even if magically all my games would be compatible with SteamOS, there is no reason to move to my TV or supplant my PS3 at this point.

Meh. Aside from some pretty shiny new hardware, it doesn't really interest me. I've have a play with the OS and I still don't see how it will move gamers over to Linux.

Only tme will tell, but I would like to see the performance difference in gaming between a Windows setup and a Steam OS setup. They seem to think Steam OS will run games better due to less resources being used. I have not seen any comparsion videos or they may be very minor.

It's good for people who don't know how to build their own PC and want an entry level prebuilt pc that puts emphasis on using controller for some games that initially could really only be played with mouse/keyboard. It's really for the console peasant who wants to finally try PC gaming. If said peasant ends up liking it, he/she can simply buy windows, install, and automatically pretty much gain access to pc gaming's entire library. It could potentially turn them into a pc enthusiast in the long run. Just transplant the hardware in a bigger case and possibly add some higher end hardware. From peasant to Master Race. From rags to riches story.

Interesting, but seemingly unnecessary. Nice small form-factor PC... Many retail cases don't get that small (micro-ATX).

There's a difference between use case and usability.

If Microsoft didn't step up it's game, Microsoft may end up with the Google Android scenario for desktops.

When you have X86 PC's Intel, AMD and NVIDIA supporting Valve's SteamOS, then Microsoft has a problem.

Note that most of Google's Chromebooks are powered by Intel and ChromeOS already has about 20 percent of USA's notebook market i.e. Hint. Intel has sent a message to Microsoft.

The first sentence in that article confirms what I just said. I am sure the growth is in low end games not games that require overpriced video cards. The article states the growth is due to an increase in China...

Regardless, the Steambox isn't meant to attract PC gamers. They can get STEAM OS and the controller regardless of what PC they're running.

Meh, people who only experienced pc monitors, even 27" good ones can't even start grasping what it means to be visually immersed into a game in front of a 60" plasma in a room with the correct illumination and a good audio system.

That's not really "the best TV for your money of 2013" though. The ST60 is. Universally so.

But I agree F8500 is a better all-round choice , primarily due to its higher brightness capability with IQ on par with a VT60.

The brightness and ABL of the ST60 is unacceptable for my needs.

If you head on over to Newegg, you can see that only 4 out of 17 models of the R9 280X are available for sale, the rest are completely sold out. In addition to that, only 2 of the 16 models of the R9 290X are available for sale as well. The story is the same with the R9 290 as well, with only two of the 7 models of the card available for sale.

I see you are still not addressing the topic's issue.

I can see it being a good solution if you have a house with some distance between your PC/work-room and your TV/living-room and you still want the best graphics in both. I mean buying a 50' plasma to play console games on doesn't make any sense.

Another important thing to realize is that this is the toughest time in the console cycle by far for something like Steam machine. Therefor it's smart that they are just doing tests atm. A couple of years from now the power difference between a Steam machine and a console will be much bigger (for the same price).
