GEARs of war is not yoru typical shooter, to call it a FPS is a crime for the game.. That being said PCs still have better controls, multiplayer, mod communityand graphcis when it comes to shooters..sSubZerOo

I never mentioned FPS. I said console shooter.

No, the PC is king of FPS's i mean look even theOrange Box is so much better on thePC than the 360. Even COD4 which is a poor excuse of a PC shooter is better on the PC than the 360.

i will give you the jist of it. The closest console shooters will ever get to a pc shooter (like half life and CS) is halo. I don't care what any one says console shooters just are not as good as their pc brothers. Halo is the only exception since it doesn't try to be like a pc shooter

when games like Fear, Bioshock and Crysis come out on PC then their (minimum to recommended) requirements need upgrading to even play them.

dk_2007

I have had the same PC for over 5 years now and my only upgrade has been the graphics card (went from 5200fx to 7800GS). I can still run the games you mentioned on medium-high settings (other than Crysis since it hasn't come out). There goes the upgrading argument.

A 9.0 and 9.6 is a fairly large difference. It's only been a year, that's not that long buddy............

PC FPS's have higher standards. PC games are compared to every single PC game ever released, while console games are just compared to other games on that system. If you don't believe me, go look at Gamespot's "How We Rate Our Games" article.....

[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="dk_2007"]

some of my arguments:

Gears of War shows that a Console shooter is an AAA material even after "1 years".

So what if there is a small decrement in the score? When HL2 got released after sometime on XBOX, it got 8.3 and that doesn't mean that HL2 is subpar when compared to other shooters on the consoles.

Before somebody points out at the lack of multiplayer on HL2-XBOX, I would like to say that many games like Bioshock are there that are AAA without the multiplayer. Thus, it is not an excuse for HL2 falling from AAA to AA on XBOX. Again lower graphics are not an excuse because at that time it looked great on XBOX when compared to other games of that time.

Though PC graphics are better of course and I like PC, but am fed up of updating the hardware. I also find windows as boring (But, I dont hate it).

I use Linux for everything including games.

dk_2007

Crysis can be played on a 6800...........

What's your point anyways? You have to buy a new console with all new accessories every 4-5 years also.....

It's like whining becauses GeoW won't work on your Xbox1.........

If you want graphics SAME as consoles you dont have to upgrade...

when games like Fear, Bioshock and Crysis come out on PC then their (minimum to recommended) requirements need upgrading to even play them.

[QUOTE="poovine"]All it takes for me to disregard console shooters is autoaim, giant hitboxes, and slowed down gameplay. Play UT2k4 then go play Halo, it feels like you're playing in bullet time. dk_2007

But shooting with a controller does need more skills than shooting with a mouse. May be thats the reason for autoaim, but its not there in every game on the consoles.

Driving with your feet takes more skills than driving with your hands, so why don't race car drivers use their feet to drive? Using your hands to drive gives you much more control of what your doing, and is an easier translation from what you do with your body (hands) to what the car does on the road. Intuitive would be the best word. Remember, everyone else also uses a mouse and are just as quick and accurate as you. So no, a controller doesn't take more skill.

FEAR itself is an old game.

Regarding Crysis: Is your PC playing Crysis with better graphics when compared to some other shooter of the Next gen consoles? I cant imagine the price of that PC when your bought it 4 years ago.

Anyway, I never said that I dont like PC.

Is your Xbox playing GeoW? At least he can PLAY Crysis.......

Have you ever used mods before? I have NEVER gotten a virus or anything else from a mod. If some mod team decided to do that, like that other guy said, it would known and taken off the mod websites. No website is going to put a mod up that has a virus in it. And no mod team would spend months and years working on a mod but then just put a virus in it. No one would use that mod and they're reputation would be ruined. This is the first time I've heard someone say they're worried about viruses being in mods........

Do you have some reasons for that?

dk_2007

Mods, better graphics, you can use both controllers and KB&M, cheaper

do they come without backdoors and all?

I was asking that can they include backdoors or hidden viruses? As some mods may not come from trusted developers.

..... You're obviously not a pc gamer. Shooters are better on PC's. The Orange Box for example is cheaper on the PC, it looks and runs better on the PC, you don't need a $900 PC to max out any game on the Orange Box, you have mods which btw extends the life greatly in Portals as well as Half Life 2, you can use a controller if the keyboard and mouse setup doesn't tickle your fancy, not to mention free online. Tell me why console shooters are better or on par with PC shooters?

Not dissing consoles I love them as well, though I would choose PC over other systems.. I will say this.. The shooter is to the PC to what the platformer is to the console.. FPS/shooters are just better on the PC imo, while platformers and other types such as fighters (one of my all time favorite genre) is superior on the console.

About viruses.. You would have to be really a incompetent 12 year old to get a virus from a mod.. There are huge databases such as Filefront, Fileplanet etc etc that have the mods that you want that it is impossible to get a virus from.. You would have to be stupid from getting a virus.. Viruses if you have a inkling of what your doign is almost impossible to get.. Specially if you have a firewall and virus scan on your computer chances are it iwll annialate it before you would even have a chance to open the trojan virus..

Release anyFPS game that is on a console to the PC and if done correctly, it will be better : FACT. Just look at : Counter Strike, Half Life series, Halo series, Bioshock, Unreal series etc..... Having played all these and more on both console and a PC, using KB/M and allowing for modding is far superior. Not to mention higher resolution and everything else you need for gaming at your fingertips.

console shooter are just as good as pc shooters,

hermits are gonna say something like crysis or some crap like that, well my comp could run crysis (on low) but cant run gears on medium, so wat that means consoles could run crysis, I hate hearing this BS about ram and crap, if m,y crappy comp could run crysis then even the wii could *exaggeration* so be done with it, mkb is for pc multiplayers to console mp is controller, so it balances out.

I think we are drifting away from the topic by discussing mods and viruses. It was a simple question (and not an answer) from me. Perhaps its me who is paranoid becauseI keep some very impotant documents on my PC.

And dont forget that the games are still excellent with or without mods.

Coming back to the topic: I agree that multiplayer on PC is altogether a different experience. Though, when I post I keep single player in mind.

I remember playing HL2 on PC. I did not find any difference from the console version to the PC version. (single player)

Many of you say that PC shooters are better than console. Do you own both the next gen consoles and PC to give a valid comparison?

Your argument would also justify the use of autoaim then?

And dont forget that I am not talking about multiplayer. I always say that multiplayer on PC may be more competitive because everyone else can take an easy headshot too.

I built my roommate a computer 2 years ago with a 7800 GTX and his pc can run Crysis with post processing, texture and object quality on high and almost everything else on medium. He never upgraded within those 2 years.

Gears is a lot more optimized than Crysis and can run on a wide variety of hardware. 0_o Besides, thats not what it means. Destructible enviroment require more ram than usual. Your line of reasoning is flawed.

[QUOTE="dk_2007"]I am not talking about gameplay. I am saying that aiming takes less skill with a mouse. Nevertheless, multiplayer on PC requires more skills for exactly the same reason as the opponents can take head shots easily.Vandalvideo
Actually, you are so incredibly wrong. As a high-league COD player I can tell you that its not justabout how precise your aiming is, no no no young bucky. Its about how FAST you can line up that shot. The mouse requires more skill than controllers BECAUSE of the fact that its easier to aim. Many people can snap off a shot faster than you can blink your eye. Heck, my reaction timing is .1455ths of a second, which is well above and beyond the norm.

So your reaction time is on par with some high end pings :). Its good.

It was an average time or the best among several?

HL2 does not play as good on Xbox/360 as it does on PC.

Do you have some reasons for that?

it's clearly stated in the xbox 1 review of hl2, basicly it has a terriable framerate

UPDATE: What if one can use Keyboard and mouse with the consoles as well? Will some arguments change?

here is one link that I found: http://gameasylum.us/xbsmsmjoyfrk.html and I guess there exist many such things for 360, PS3 ... etc

Does this adapter look good enough?
