Consoles offer more variety, but if MMORPG's, FPS, or RTS's are your thing then you should be playing on a PC.TheMouth
It's a big myth. PCs offer as much variety as consoles if not more. But the variety comes from niche games. And since they are niche everyone sees just RTSes, FPSes and MMOs

[QUOTE="Tracekill"]Probably, no definately been posted before but it deserves a refreshing visit to the first page of the board what are your views on consoles versus PC. My view is that consoles are terrific for what they are built to do. They are designed to play games and they do that well. PCs however, can complete all of the functions of a console along with the added bonuses of an Operating system for running utilities and other programs. Would write more but I'm extremely tired.TheMouth

Depends on your tastes. Consoles offer more variety, but if MMORPG's, FPS, or RTS's are your thing then you should be playing on a PC.

Console's DO NOT have more variety. You obviously have not gamed on the PC very much or else you would know that.

PC gaming is far superior for genres like RTS, FPS, or RPGs with real-time battle systems, etc.  It isn't even close.  However, I prefer consoles for sports, driving, platformers, action, and adventure, and probably puzzle too, although they are close.

Well fighters...obviously that's not the PC strongest genre, but still...there are some good ones if you follow the doujinscene, Akatsuki sequel is supossed to come out in a month platformers... funnystuff, but PC actualy are doing much better in 2D platformers than console games. Just go and play Gish kart racers-KART Masters is coming out in few months. first good kart sim in a loooong while. I do know that's not what you've meant though :D turn-based RPGs- Avernum4 will be out in march of course..you're just biased and have chosen sub-genres that PC don't excel at..but I could do the same... tell me..any good hack and slash RPGs, racing sims, simulators, adventure games, tactical shooters, side-scrolling/top-down shooters, puzzle games or sport managers coming out on consoles anytime soon? let's say..in the next 6 months?

adventure? Come on :) That;s like saying "I prefr fightiers on PC" :) I think you've meant action-adventure :) And puzzle is actualy much better on pc nowadays, there are hardly any puzzle games on consoles anymore, they seem to be replaced by rythm games

Look, 2 can play that game.  Any good Real time strategy, turnbased strategy, MMOs, action RPGs, wRPGs, adventure games, simulation (including business, sport, driving, and flying) coming out for your console anytime soon?

As for platform games, yeah we got those: http://www.newgrounds.com/game/actiongames.html , not mention a pretty good port of Psychonauts.

Kart Racers?  Please, there is only one kart series worth having on consoles, and its worth isn't inherited in the fact its a kart racers, its the fact its a well made, fun game.  I'm talking Mario Kart, of course.

As for Turn based RPGs, there are quite a few indie shops still making them, notably Jeff Vogel and Spiderweb games (I think thats his company).

OK, fighters you might have a point about, but if you want a competitve mano el mano experience on a PC, chances are you play RTS or FPS online, so there really isn't much point in porting fighters.

EDIT:  Looks like I was on the same page as Adrien

I'm being biased??? What are you talking about.  All I said was that consoles offer more variety that PC's, but if you prefer fps, rts, and mmorpgs you should play the PC.  I wasn't being biased towards anything.  You told me that it was a myth.  I only asked you where those genres were because you claimed what I said was a myth.  Sure the PC might have a great 2d platformer, but Consoles make platformers in 3D now.  Viewtiful Joe is an exception, but it's a killer platformer.

I'm not taking the stand that one is better than the other.  I will take a stand that based on your gaming preferences, one can better than the other.

Ok, so you're telling me that someone who prefers platformers, fighters and TBRPG's would be happy with just a PC?  Please.  I stand by my (unbiased) statement that depending on what genre types you prefer, you'll be happy with either the PC or console.

You can stick with your biased view that someone who likes those genres I named would be happy playing the PC with those obscure titles you mentioned.

You clearly said that consoles offer more variety, that was biased ande untrue. of course any fighting game or platformers won't find much to play on Pcs, just like a fan of adventure games or simulatros won't find much to play on consoles. That;s obvious. But that's not what you've written. Don't try now to twist it around..you clearly wrote that consoles have more variety, you were proved wrong and now you're just trying to avoid ownage. Consoles do offer more variety.  The titles you mentioned are obscure garbage that no one's ever heard of.  The Genres that the PC does better, still have some excellent titles on consoles, it's just that the PC does it better.  Examples:  FF XI, Halo, UT, Halo 2, HLII, Doom III, The Sims (and every incarnation of), The Urbz.  All excellent titles in those genres.  So yeah, consoles do offer better variety.  And I still say that if you prefer RTS, FPS and MMORPG's then you should pick up a PC.  If your a fan of any other genres, pick up a console.  It's all based on genre preference.

It's all based on genre preference.

i can't agree, if you think those are' garbage" then you obviously have horrible gaming taste. And..in every "console" genre pc also have good titles. So don't be ridiculus. What's more..PC offer more variety inside each genre. best example:FPSes...PC offer not only typical FPS, but also tactical shooters and fps/rpg hybrids, which consoles do not have. So... bassicaly if you prefer sports, action or arcade racing..then you should pick a console, for every other genre...pick up a PC. it's all based on genre preference

It's "standards" fault that the PC only has one game above 9.5?... then why does nearly every system have a couple and PC only one.... TEH STANDARDS... LOL

VGKING

Then why did Half Life 2 with its 9.2 completely OWN Halo 2 with its 9.4 for Best Shooter of the Year when GOTY 2004 awards came around?

How come PC was platform with the highest number of nominees in Gamespot's Overall GOTY list for 2005?....all of them Exclusive btw......how many "next-gen" console games made the list?

Um... what was GOTY?  and is it on the PC?

So you only get GOTY games games, sad :(.

I'm guessing because you're hiding your profile.  But I probably have more GOTYs than you, more AAAA games than you, more AAA games than you, more AA games than you, more A games than you and so on.

nd I;m guessing you don' have nywhere near enough good recent PCgames to make any claims about PCgaming

Why should I upgrade when I've played the genres on PC and don't like them?  Besides graphics does the gameplay of PC MMORPGs, Simulation, Strategy games change?  Should I upgrade because in the past 2 years there have been massive changes in PC gaming.

Tell me.... are there new sailing games comping out I should upgrade for LOL

Well... that's not a problem, if you only like console games that's fine. WHat's a problem is your egocentrism, because you seem to thing that just because you don't like something then it OBVIOUSLY means it sucks. Which is ridiculus assumption.

Duh... the only thing we're doing is arguing my opinion against your opinion.  Which no one can win.  I however am using various scores and statistics... which are also opinion against your opinion so you just shrug them off and keep typing.  It's an endless loop.

VGKING is OWNING you fools take it like a ***** and move on.....

You most likely don't know what owning means.

To prove wrong.  And I can't prove your opinion wrong, that's impossible.  I can however make it look retarded, and I am.

You're retarted?????????

[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"][QUOTE="TheMouth"] Consoles offer more variety, but if MMORPG's, FPS, or RTS's are your thing then you should be playing on a PC.AdrianWerner

It's a big myth. PCs offer as much variety as consoles if not more. But the variety comes from niche games. And since they are niche everyone sees just RTSes, FPSes and MMOs

Sure they do, any good fighters, platformers, kart racers, turn based rpg's coming out on the pc anytime soon?

You bias camed from naming the consolish sub-genres and using them as examples of supossed variety of console gaming. And sure..you say that..but you still haven't responded to my choices of PCs types of games. bassicaly...I could as well say "PCs offr more variety, but if you prefer sports, racing or action games then you should play consoles". Ir would be as true as your claim(which means it wouldn't be true:) ). I stand by my statement..pc offer every big as much variety as consoles

Why are you trying to twist the facts? Really. I never claimed that "someone who likes those genres you named would be happy playing the PC with those obscure titles I mentioned" I never said that, so don't make stuff up. You were simply wrong ,admit it and walk away at least with shreads of dignity

So... bassicaly if you prefer sports, action or arcade racing..then you should pick a console, for every other genre...pick up a PC.it's all based on genre preference (That's what I said in my original post.)

and? What is that supossed to prove? Oh...right... that they're niche... which I wrote :D And racers? How about you do yourself a favor and check gamespot reviews for games like GTR, Nascsr racing3, superbike2001 or F1 Challenge? Damn..it seems Pc has good racers? how can it be? And turn-based RPGs? temple of elemental evil was preety nice. the same with Arcanum or Fallout games. And...now tell me where exacly can I find good console simulator? or how about good sport manager? or how about a good tactical shooter? PC has many AA and AAAs in those genres. what about any decent adventure game that's not also on PC? That's what I though. i never claimed PC could win with consoles in tactical rpgs, kart raers, fighting games or platformers. But it's not like consoles cover all the genres pc does. And unlikke the nonsense you wrote PC cover many other genres besides rts, fps and MMORPGs. But you just ignore them. especialy sim and adventure, which are bassicaly Pc only genres. The same with turn-based strategy games. So sorry, but I'm still waiting for you to show me why consoles have more variety

why? because of remote?come on. pc and revo will most likely the the two least alike platforms nex-gen. With ninty's "gaming is to complicated, we need to make it simplier" and PCgaming's gaming is too simple, we need more complexity" philosophies
