actually to date no games have used the multithread processing of the cell, they've all run on GPU rendering and simply put the ai on the CPU because thats how you do it on pc. the cell has over 30 threads each of which would take about a quarter of a second to render a frame of uncharted 2, so if it were used right, the cell could enable a 120fps uncharted 2 with the same level of graphics. now, compare some arch vis renders (just google image that) to heavy rain and the like, arch vis is CPU rendered, all games so far are gpu rendered. the cell could, technically, effectively quadruple the power of the ps3 if used right, (30 things each figuring out 4 things a second vs 1 thing figuring out 30 things per second) but nobody has programmed that yet except for some of sony's so called canned tech demos (which are in realtime)12345678ew

yes and if games ran on my toaster they run at 50000fps at 200000p with graphics better than real life. oh im sorry i thought we were living in fantasy world.

sorry to break the news but developers do use the cell. they have to. the RSX is so weak that in order to maintain a standard of graphics they have to use the cell to help it.

Yawn. Why is it that PC gamers seem to only talk about graphics, and not about games? The only games they talk about are console games and how superior Crysis's graphics are to them

BPoole96

That's not really true since like 95% of the Crysis graphics threads are started in System Wars by some console fanboy comparing it to a console game.

Crysis doesn't make console games look like supermario in comparison but make no misstake maxed out and it makes todays console-games last-gen, and is something you might get to experience with PS4.

fireballonfire

after playing crysis demo fully maxed out on 1080p resolutiuons (yeah i was getting like 6FPS on my laptop but i only did that to see how awesome this super amazing game which apparently makes console game look last gen looks like) i must say i have to disagree with you, it looked good but not as good as hermits claim and console games still look amazing to me

What was out in 1961?

washd123

pc games

spacewar! in 1961

and computer games in general back to 1948

Bull**** the first commercially produced computer was the UNIVAC1 in 1951, and that thing took up an entire room. Computer games did not exist in 1948, hell computers in 1948 used vacuum tubes! There is no way a computer game could have been programmed in 1948. Compilers also did not exist at this time meaning you had to code programs in binary, it would have taken forever to make even the most simplistic computer game. :|

Console graphics will always get trumped by PC - PC can run games at 25x16. But kids cant afford expensive computers, plus a 30 inch monitor. They're lucky if their parents have an HDTV (1080 - haha). So bragging about PC's superior graphics to them is pointless.

Yes it was, the simple challenge of doing it and developing ways to ease the task was a game.

And games itself especially in the nineties had a great impact in driving the industry forward. Remember those 3d accelerators and the 1st nvidia and ati cards? The 1st dx implementation, open gl and sgi, etc....

Again, people were not coding video games back in 1948, it would have been a lost cause as the first computer the public could buy wasn't available until 1951, and even then it took up a large part of your room and was very expensive, and they still used vacuum tubes at this point, a very ineffeciant way of processing tasks as they burnt out easily and a single computer would need over 19,000 of them in order to operate. :|

trollop_scat

I must be doing something wrong, seeing as how my parents didn't pay for my HDTV. Oh, wait, that's because I'm almost 30 and don't live anywhere near them. Really, though, great try - just an absolutely superb argument you have there. Now that you've solved that mystery, perhaps you could turn your super sleuth powers on this one: why does my "expensive computer" gather dust while I play my games on PS3?

Platform preference is just that: PREFERENCE. Don't pretend that you have more money (or technical skills, or intelligence, or any of the other B.S. distinctions I've seen PC gamers draw around here) than a consolite, because inevitably, someone will be along to prove you wrong.

If you meant split screen, well thats crap, it may have a negative impact on the frame rate and playing on a tiny square, no ty.

Pc graphics have not humiliated console graphics, the majority of PC's owned by people in the world have less powerfull graphics cards than the consoles, because most people don't use them aming. The Consoles all have the same graphicall benchmark so they can be more efficiantly utilised by developers and be pushed to their limit unlike Pc's. So the the fact of the story is, Console graphics humiliate most PC's graphics =)

caribo2222
I don't know the official numbers but that's probably true. Anyway i think it's time that we stopped caring so much about graphics. No modern games look like they fell out the back of an oscilloscope, isn't that enough? I can have much more fun playing an old classic like Doom than some of these modern shooters, and that's what should matter, the ability to have fun playing these games not which game has larger textures or more detailed ambient maps. /rant

Agree to that, split screen is way over rated, I tried playing Halo3 with my brother on the same screen and it sucked, you can always look at his screen and see where he might be hiding, co-op is decent but nothing to brag about, I would rather play Crysis wars on a german server, WIN.

For what it does, it's actually quite well optimized. It runs excellently on my comp at max settings, 19x12, 2xAA at 35-40fps. My rig is mid-range now.

I honestly think Forza 3 has the best graphics to date. I never really figured out what made Crysis so good. It's a mediocre game. The graphics engine feels very un-optimized and shooting guys isn't really that fun.

mo0ksi

Why is that the PC & MAC games board completely absent of Crysis threads then? Honestly, do you want me to pull out an Uncharted 2 graphics thread that happened a week or two ago?

Yeah man. Go for it. After all, Uncharted 2 does look terrible, right?

What is it with cows and their hubris.

If RE5 is anything to go by, seeing as it is a new game developed for all platforms. RE5 is still considered a graphical achievement and is one of the best looking titles for the consoles. This same game maxed out on my PC runs at almost 80FPS (1680 x 1080, 16qx aa)average.

The conclusion is that a decent gaming-PC is about 10 times as powerful as the PS3. Twice as many pixels at almost tripple the framerate + AA beyond what the PS3 will ever see in it's wet dream.

PC-hardware is now so powerful that it totally humiliates console graphics. If uncharted 2 was built for PC it would face the same humiliation as RE5, simple as that(maybe a slightly lower FPS). This same hardware(my PC) have trouble keeping 30FPS running Crysis ultrahigh, 1680 x 1080 4 AA.

It doesn't take that many braincells to figure out that Crysis is a VERY advanced game. It excells in every category, graphics, scale, physics and interaction.

Crysis doesn't make console games look like supermario in comparison but make no misstake maxed out and it makes todays console-games last-gen, and is something you might get to experience with PS4.

We all (except delusional cows) know this but thanks fo re-iterating it again :P
