So far it looks like wii u and 720 will be pretty weak. Since the industry revolves around the consoles power. Do you think pc gaming will be held back way more then they are this gen? Will the devs spend millions more on pc gaming?

Few games push power for the pc this gen. If next consoles are weak then there might be zero need for a high end gaming pc.
Few PC gamers have ultra powerful PCs. Every PC gamer doesn't have a rig that can crap out Crysis Ultra in hibernate mode.Few games push power for the pc this gen. If next consoles are weak then there might be zero need for a high end gaming pc.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Regardless, power will always be necessary to run certain mods/higher AA and AF solutions/higher resolutions/higher fps.

.... why? who posted this? no one your just spaming.
you arent funny, this is like the 10th time we've seen this threadwhere?
Well look into the bright side. Perhaps since consoles will have a low start, PCs can go flying away and catch the eyes of those devs who like pushing tech.ShadowDeathX
wont happen tho because Consoles make the standards.

meetroid8
where?
Literally every time a big PC/console multiplat is released. You don't get what this theard is about then.

What standards? They don't set the graphical standards.
Simulators, MMOs and strategy games are currently the titles that push PCgaming graphics the most and since those are all pretty much PC-exclusive genres the launch of 720 and WiiU is unlikely to change anything. Heck..conidering how F2P model is doing we most likely also will be getting some high end PC exclusive FPSes
I never understand this idea.
My graphics look incredible, but they could look a little better if the devs were PC focused instead of console focused. That's the entire base of this argument really.
So.. my games look better than console, arguably play better than console, there's 10x more games available on PC, mods, and I could go on.
But because my uber graphics could be a little more... uber-er PC gaming as a whole is held back? Really?
Be thankful for what you got dammit. Sh!t already looks amazing.

But what about singleplayer?
says the dude to afraid to show his face..[QUOTE="xhawk27"]
Most of the big exclusive games on the PC this year are either free or are MMOs. ;)

What? How is this even relevant.. we're on the internet..?

We dont anything about xbox 720 yet, so how does it seem pretty weak ?
Piracy is what holds the PC back, not consoles.
Basinboy
No games supporting software rendering killed pc gaming's userbase.
Even unreal tournament 2003 supports software rendering pc has been downhill ever since.
My friend who owns a ps3 has a pc but he has no gaming graphics card and he doesnt know **** about pc hardware he could be playing pc games if there was software rendering support though just like he could game on his pc with onlive without a graphics card...except software rendering no input lag.
Direct3D WARP10 to enable you to play DX10 Crysis using software renderer only, albeit slowly
Now before you laugh so hard you cry, remember in the WARP10 scenario the CPU is not only rendering the game now but also continuing to process everything else that it originally had to process with a graphics card. Taking that into consideration, I applaud it for even running at all
derp derp reason games need official software renderers made by the developer so u can disable graphical settings used by graphics cards that slowdown the rendering on the pc.

The 720 will be a wanaWii it will be aimed at soccer moms, they don't care about power.
lol u cant even run crysis at 320x240 lol pretty sure the framerates would be better than crysis using software renderer running game at 800x600 lowest res possible they need to add and disable specific stuff for proper software support.
XBox 720, with Avatar like and Samaritan, Leo graphics, will hold back PC gaming that has to take into account 8800 GPUs from 10 years back ?
If anything, the only way to see the true next gen jump in visuals will be xbox720 exlusives, PC games are made for PCs 10 years back and will never use PC hardware at all

Dont be stupid, the 720 will be a kinect box, is target will be families, core gaming is gone.
Rendering everything with the (general-purpose) CPU has the main advantage that it is not restricted to the (limited) capabilities of graphics hardware.

software>hardware overall
Quake 1 looks better with software rendering notice the game looks less blurry in software mode note the pixels wouldnt be there with modern software renderers.Lol quake 1 using hardware mode open gl looks more blurry

Cool story
Link ?
I have links with Epic saying they target Samaritan graphics for 720 and AMD Leo demo and have links that thye said will be Avatar like in visuals
Is requiring video cards worth cutting off a userbase of millions of pc's without gaming graphics cards which could be used for gaming with software rendering?
HELL NO
Notice the texture in the distance is more blurry in the open gl mode screenshot of quake 1 than software.

Yeah but its all bullsh*t, it will be aimed at families, MS want to be like the wii, what the point in making games like big budget console games when most of them fail to make profit, the money is in wii titles.
You're taking just one game as an example. Check any NFS games back in the day, like NFS3, NFSHS, NFSPU which all supported Software Rendering in addition to D3D Rendering. And guess what, Software Rendering sucked balls. It depends on how the game utilized both features.Notice the texture in the distance is more blurry in the open gl mode screenshot of quake 1 than software.
