Have to disagree with you there. I feel kind of weird actually defending Bethesda for once, but hey, here goes.
Oblivion: definitely bad, aside from a handful of meagre highlights. Agree with you there.
Shivering Isles: Actually pretty good. It suffered from a lot of the same stupid, bull **** problems as Oblivious, but it also had a very interesting and unique setting, and some very cool content.
Fallout 3: Not bad. Definitely not great, but I think it's a fairly solid game, especially in comparison with the modern competition. The main quest was bloody awful, but there were some good sidequests (yes, along with a bunch of really idiotic ones) and the exploration (i.e., Bethesda's greatest strength) was pretty ****ing good. Having unkillable NPCs every five feet, a poorly imagined gameworld, and terrible writing definitely hurt it (especially in comparison with New Vegas, which is bloody incredible), but I also sank a bunch of hours into it, and enjoyed most of them.
So, while they haven't really matched Morrowind again, I don't think they're a terrible developer.

Fallout 3 was a disgrace to the series. As dragon age 2 was to the first, ditto to mass effect 2, doesn't meant they're bad games, you just don't like them.
I think that best game ever is way too strong, but GOTY is realistic. That is with Skyward Sword coming this year, so that's very high praise imoGunSmith1_basicMeh, I don't see Skyward Sword as that high level of GOTY potential. I mean I'm sure I'll love it a ton, but with what happened with TP, I'm not sure if Zelda will be seen as it was back in OOT and MM times. I think it has stronger competition in The Witcher 2, Uncharted 3, but even moreso Dark Souls.

I would say No, but I put maybe because of course its possible. It is possible that tons of other games this year will be the best game ever.
[QUOTE="martinX3X"]A lot of personal opinions presented as facts in this thread.I think it definetely has the potential to beat Ocarina of Time as the "greatest game of all time". From what we've seen, the game is shaping up to be amazing. What do you think?
GeneralShowzer
Those opinions were stated as opinions if you read the oc.....
no. even with all the new technology and nostalgia aside, ocarina is actually still much better than most of the games released today. what i mean by that is that even if it got released today in the exact same state that it did back 98, it would still be much better than most games currently being released.
There is one thing that I think they can't get right. All Elder Scrolls games and Fallout 3 were almost there and didn't make it. A bit like GTA series. GTA 4 didn't have it either, while it did so much to have it.
OoT had it (in fact the Zelda series is pretty much based on it), WoW had it, Ico had it, Deus Ex had it. Beyond good and Evil definitely had it. Alice too. It's probably the only good bit about Fable but it wasn't quite enough.
I hope you kind of figured out what I'm talking about :P cause I don't know the words to describe it exactly. These games all have something in common that makes humans fall in love with them. I don't mean that humans appreciate these games. The games really get a special place in peoples hearts.
It's a kind of charm. I think if I have to go by feelings, that it is because they create a world that is understandable and approachable but still fantastic and mysterious in its own way. A world that makes you want to be there (even if realistically it is a cruel world).
The movie Avatar had this too. People really 'love' the movie, and even want to commit suicide if that means they end up in Pandora, while Pandora is realistically not a pleasant place.
It's the magic ingredient that doesn't make a game good, but can elevate a game from being good to being almost holistic.
I just noticed I capitalized Evil and not Good. :P Hmmmm.
Best game ever is so subjective. I mean I consider Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to be the best ever and chances are Skyrim is not going to be a side-scrolling 2D platformer type game where you slowly discover new areas of Dracula's castle. Color me surprised if it is though.
From what you ve seen? what 2 trailers and 15 seconds of gameplay? Please My experience with beshada tells me that its going to be a bug/glitch fest with repetitive everything. No thanks for me, i much rather play the witcher 2 :)I think it definetely has the potential to beat Ocarina of Time as the "greatest game of all time". Funny thing is: Despite if Skyrim was released as a cluster**** of bugs/glitches or not....
GS will still give it a AAA score.
it's obviously only bad when Obsidian releases buggy games.

Depends how serious the bugs are.Lockups...bad framerate...texture pop-ins,NPC's getting stuck in places.
I also remember when playing Fallout 3,I fell through the ground in Minefield and was walking around neck deep in the ground like I was swimming in mud.
At any rate,i'm sure Bethesda's Ps3 fanbase can attest to the bugs/glitches.

Fair enough, I play their stuff on 360 so probably miss the worst of the bugs.I think it has a good chance yeah, the longer this gen seems to go on and the more time I have to look back on the more I realise how much I prefer Oblivion to every other game this gen. Obviously best game ever is subjective because some people think the MGS series is the best game series ever :?, so each to their own I guess.
Todd "I think CoD and RDR are RPGs" Howard is developing the game, so no. As a matter of fact, I think that Morrowind was their last good game.
Oblivious: Bugs galore, Level Scaling ruining the point of exploration, terrible combat, awful quests, became decent after modding it however.
Fallout 3: Bugs galore, Level Scaling again although not as bad as it was in Oblivious, complete disgrace to Fallout where writing/roleplaying/storytelling/combat (yeah I prefer turn based over what F3 had), once again mods saved this from being utterly terrible.
Can Skyrim be good, well there is always a chance, although I will keep my hype really low so I can not be disappointed. They let me down twice, I will not be let down a third time. Even if it ends up being bad mods can always fix the bad design choices and bugs that at this point seems inevitable. Spears wont be added because they are too hard to animate.
I'm sorta betting that Mass Effect 3 gets that title or a least is phenom if in fact Bioware is melding the best from both ME1&2 plus ME3 shall conclude the Mass Effect story and that alone has me chomping at the bit. :D
Skyrim is a day 1 buy and I'm sure to love it but best game ever is a tall order for Bethesda but hey, if somehow it comes in perfect form with no bugs and glitches, I guess it could happen. :P
Well the fact that its concluding could also mean failure. ME1 set up the story but ME2 added very little to the overall plot. The situation is so grim that it seems most likely that either a deus ex machina saves them, or everything is doomed and just ends with people dying. Good luck to them to do better, but I have a hard time seeing where its going, and its not like the plot was that unpredictable when just about every aspect of it was copied from some major sci-fi work.I'm sorta betting that Mass Effect 3 gets that title or a least is phenom if in fact Bioware is melding the best from both ME1&2 plus ME3 shall conclude the Mass Effect story and that alone has me chomping at the bit. :DSecretPolice

A RPG with only three stats is not amazing.
There are far too many great games for me to just pick one above all others. It is certainly looking like it could end up being another classic, though. After all, it is The Elder Scrolls. Other than Dark Souls, there is nothing that even remotely excites me more than Skyrim. As it will likely be one of those games that I will keep going back to years from now. It truly is a special occasion whenever a new Elder Scrolls releases and I cannot wait.

I feel you, man, i know what you're talking about perfectly. To bad i can't e'fing describe it. I think Morrowind had it also, the world was so unique like it was on another planet, and the lore had so much depth trough the books and written texts..

I consider it more of an homage then a copy, but I have a hard time imagining what they may use as a plot device where it does not fall under the two scenerios I've said, but its up to them and not me to make the game. I very much want to see where they go with it, I just hope its not a disappointment.[QUOTE="110million"]

I love that feeling. A game where you feel at home, where you can turn it on and instantly feel warm and safe and happy. I get it from the Zelda games, PS2 Gta games, and a good few more. Tropico 3 is the most recent, I adore that game so much :)Please Log In to post.
