[QUOTE="DSgamer64"][QUOTE="Tactis"]My understanding is that Microsoft owns the franchise so unless epic wants to pay them hundreds of millions of dollars just for some stupid issues like mods and downloadble content, as to the silicon knights thinghow is that an issue to breach contract over? its freaking silicon knights fault MS doesn't tell them what engine to use.

Gears of War is MADE by Epic, therefori it is THEIR GAME. Are you really that daft? There is only a contract to make 2 Gears of War games for the 360, after that Epic is free to do whatever in the hell they want with their own franchise, which means making it PS3 exclusive if they really wanted too.
and exactly how do you know this? i mean sure epic is a third party but publishing deals could always have ownership clause in them in a sense MS could own the franchise depending on the contract itself.
for example we all know Bioware made KOTOR however the original owners of the IP is Lucas Arts because they were able to take the franchise and give it to Obsidian to develop KOTOR 2, who is to say its not the same exact thing? anyway i have no proof of this and you have no proof of your point either so this kinda pointless.
why is everyone so surprised this could happen? just because epic is not owned by MS does not mean MS does not own the franchise just like Lucas Arts does with KOTOR.
Lucas Arts is owned by George Lucas, and George Lucas owns Star Wars. KOTOR is an extension of the Star Wars franchise, so it would be impossible for Bioware to own it. HOWEVER, Gears of War is NOT owned by Microsoft, it is owned by EPIC, who is an INDEPENDENT DEVELOPER that owns all of their own IPs, which is why they can make Unreal Tournament 3 for Midway even though Atari published the last one. Epic is a very big developer and they do not let publishers strong arm them out of the IPs that they create.
I would be SHOCKED if Gears 2 was not on Xbox 360. But on the other hand, I would not be that surprised if it were multiplatform.Timstuff
It really depends on the contractual agreement between Epic & MS regarding Gears of War and its sequels. If it cites anywhere that Microsoft has rights to publish Gears & its next two sequels on Microsoft platforms, then it's clear that Gears will not be coming to PS3 or any other platform besides Xbox 360 or PC.
[QUOTE="Timstuff"]MS does not own the Gears of War IP any more than Nintendo owns the Perfect Dark IP.Did you people just graze over that part of my post?jiggawho2006
al i heard was, "MoO, i have $600 paper weight with no games to play"
I'm just curious...do you understand that message boards are for discussion? I'm also now curious if you've ever contributed to a discussion before...you seem like the kid who just says "your mama" now and then.
I've said this before i'll say it again:The way Microsoft run their Xbox 360 business is very eye brow raising, this is why i'm not surprised hearing how Epic now have an Unreal deal with Sony. The dirty Windows tactics are not going to help Microsoft in the long run, this has already been proven by the firing of Peter Moore.Dualshockin
The reality is that UT3 on 360 wouldn't get noticed if it was released this year. The PS3 is no AAA titles, so Epic has a chance to sell some games there.

yeah a $600 oversized paperweight!!!
LMFAO  This aint two kids arguing this is two money making companys..
epic:"How dare you microsoft make us put ower maps up for money on xboxlive and make us millions more on top of gears of war, we are going to cry now and pull ower ip from your platform, it only sold over four million copys on your system you can go to HELL!!!!!!" :
People on these forums need to get real if they think that epic are realy mad at the big M for making them money......
[QUOTE="sonicare"]I'm sure they would put Gears of War 2 on the 360. It would make no sense to abandon that following considering how well Gears sold on the 360. In the end, Epic is about money like every other corporation. Timstuff
Going multiplatform with a Gears of War sequel would not be "abandoning the fanbase." If it were published by Midway, Epic's current third-party partner, then it would be multiplatform, so the original fans would still get to play it.
Also,0rin raised a very interesting point with the Fear sequel. That is a living example of what happened when a publisher and developer broke up. There are others, like Crytech with Far Cry and Crysis, and Harmonix with Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but Fear is the most deliberate, and it is the most applicable to this situation. If MS broke up with Epic but they still had paid for exclusive rights to the sequel to Gears, both Microsoft and Epic could end up making seperate, un-related Gears of War sequels. MS could make "Gears of War 2," but then Epic could make "Gears of War: Second Rising," or even change the name alltogether to something like "Locust Storm!" If things are really bad with MS and Epic, there's no telling where things could go.
Maybe we'll see the infamous Tears of War? ;) God that kid cracks me up *watches video again*[QUOTE="Prtofdacrowd"][QUOTE="mattbbpl"]I believe MS owns the rights to the first two entries in the Gears of War series. Perhaps the 3rd could go multiplatform?Timstuff
I also believe that MS has a large amount of Shares and therefore a controlling interest!
All lies. MS does not own a red cent of Epic, last I checked.
You dont understand, there is a contract giving Gears of War1/2 to wherever Microsoft wants it.
The only Multiplat will be "Gears of War 2 - PC/360" ....

Yeah TC you should change your thread to mention Gears of War 3 instead as that game has to be negotiated if MS wants it exclusive

Yeah, thats what I thought when I heard Epic wouldnt give us the extra part of the story or the fight with the Brumak, and made it available only on the PC. I havent touched GeOW since... And why are so many people bashing the TC? He wasnt being antagonistic, and he wasnt slamming the 360. He actually brings up a good point.
This isn't the school yard. You don't cry and throw your toys out your pram because the other kid wont play fair. Epic is a business, they aim to make money.
Gears will stay on the 360, gaurenteed. As if MicroSoft would pay out a billion for gears of war 1 and not take measures to insure gears stays on it's console. It's like claiming Halo 3 might go multiplate or to another console because Microsoft rushed out halo 2 and upset bungie.
1. gears of war - I don't know how the contract was written, but it's pretty obvious that it's only gonna come out on MS systems (pc/360).
2. URT2007 - MS doesn't care about this game for 360, it's obvious that the PC version is going to be superior and that's how ms wants it. Adding mods to the 360 version would only give modders a possible loophole to pirate games on the system.
3. Silicon Knights - It's probably best the less MS is involved the better.
The fact is Epic and MS make money together and that's all it takes for good business.
dream on cow, you wish and you dream. it's something called contract and the fact that microsoft owns the name "gears of war"
so keep dreaming and be a good cow and "wait" i mean you've been waiting since 2005?
jiggawho2006
Wow someone is being a bit touchy. He posts his thoughts and possibilites and you jump at his throat.
[QUOTE="blacktorn"]I couldn't care less if a gears of war 2 makes it out on 360 or not,but Microsoft don't care either seeing as they own the pc gaming market and make money either way.thinicer
They care more about the console market though. It's much bigger.
Right, but it's better for them to make some profit on say gears 2 on pc then letting it go too a nintendo or sony platform which = no $$$ for Microsoft.
That makes Microsoft very :( lol
Psssh. I don't like Epic's current games. The last Epic game I really liked was Jazz Jackrabbit. But I thought Microsoft had the rights to either the first 2 or 3 Gears games, so it seems very unlikely the the PS3 will be seeing them until that contract runs out. After that, it's highy possible.
And I don't like how companies are personified on System Wars. They're international businesses, not kids worrying about whose feelings get hurt. I'm yet to see the press release or interview that says "X company hurt our feelings, so we're not going to make any more games for them unless they say sorry".

look pal you cant prove that highlighted statement because as i said earlier we dont know the exact details of the contract, i am saying its A POSSIBLITY!!! and it happens all the time that IPs aren't owned by the developers who make them they are owned by the publishers were are you getting the idea that epic is immune to this sort of contract?
Just a friendly reminder that you're not supposed to post in a thread if the tc has no idea what he's talking about. It just makes system wars seem worse worse than it already is.
