But any company could publish the next game. but MS will probably sign a deal to keep it exclusive, since i don't think there was actually a signed exclusive deal for Gears of War, it was just a game that Epic decided to make on 360 only.

um MS published Gears, paid for production and all advertising. in exchange im sure MS had it so Gears of War will be on another console.

And Sony paid for the advertising for FF7, yet it eventually went multiplat anyway. The key factor is ownership. Since Microsoft co-owns the IP (Can anyone find the reference where this was mentioned?), they have say in the use of the property. It's the next best thing to a first-party-developed game like Kameo.

FF7 went to PC...big deal, it did not go to N64 or something. Gears of War is already destined for PC and the same will follow for the sequel. You see, since PC is not part of the competition, it really doesn't matter to the publishers if the devs decide to port it to the pc.

If PC weren't part of the competition, why does it have its own exclusives? Look, the thing is, FF7 eventually went multiplat when Square contracted Eidos. However, such cannot be done for Gears because Microsoft has at least partial control of the property. The last thing they'd want is for the game to appear on a rival console.

You know, I was thinking about this and in 2 years or so when Gears 2 is released it makes a lot of sense that it could also very well hit the PS3 as well.  I mean think about it for a second, 2 years from now, "Home" will be very well established and all the other great games will be out. MGS, Killzone, Gran Turismo,Final Fantasy,Warhawk, Lair,Heavenly Sword,Eight days etc etc. So that means that TONS of people will have a PS3 2 years from now, so really wouldnt it make sense that Gears comes to PS3 as well because Epic would make a lot more money if it was released on both consoles considering how the PS3 user base in 2 years will be HUGE because of all the great games and Home will be well established!! Honestly it might not happen ,but it does make sense if it didBigBoss5777
The Gears publishing rights belong to MS and you can bet the if they even got a sniff of a rumor that EPIC was even remotly thinking of making Gears multiplat, they would just fatten Cliffy B's pockets to keep it on 360/PC exclusively!! The PS3 will NEVER, EVER see a Gears game!!!

PC's aren't rivals with home consoles. It is not part of the real competition.

well the diff is, Gears is made by Epic, and LBP is made in-house Sony i think, and i dont think GeOW will go multiplat, MS paying them big bucks

Actually it's being made by Media Molecule which I don't believe Sony owns.

i swear i heard cliff b say how impressed he was that MS was pushing gears so much considering they don't own it.

I could be mistaken but that I know of, Square published the game themselves in Japan and Sony just published it in the US. It happens alot with games from and to Japan, like Sega with From or Capcom with GTA. I'm not sure if MS own any part of the franchises but they did put up the 10M for the game and supposely have the rights to the next two sequels.

[QUOTE="PS3_HOME_ALONE"]Forget Gears:x us Ps3 owners will have Home!BioShockOwnz
Gears of War is better then some online service no one on System Wars has even used. Gears of War 2 will never touch PS3.

@ BioShockOwnz:  I've seen a lot of your opinions around System Wars of late and I must say good **** being an unbiased gamer with educated opinions instead of a **** eating fanboy.  Half the time I plan on responding to a 360 or PS3 bashing you've already posted what I was gonna say...

Microsoft is publishing it.

This has the same chances of happening as Halo 3 going to the PS3.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense, especially with Microsoft publishing the entire series.  DEFINITELY 100% CHANCE!

So it's the third best thing: an exclusivity contract. Microsoft pays for development and in turn gets exclusive dibs and publishing rights to it and the sequels.
