No real damage?? well, PSN is proof you're worng, man.
LOl really? that basically cost them 171 million ( improvements in network infrastructure and the welcome back program). For a company that has about 40 billion to spend thats a stumble. If the hackers accomplish anything it will be new legislation that gets passed that cracks down on them to the point where they will be treated like terrorist.
$40 billion?!?!?! Where'd you pull that figure from? This article from yesterday does say they might invest in other companies, but with their $8.3 billion reserves, not the fantastical number you produced :Phttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-30/sony-leads-japan-inc-circling-takeovers-with-2-4-trillion-cash-real-m-a.html
"Sony had the most cash, with $8.3 billion more in reserves than borrowings as of March, the data show. That's a sevenfold increase in five years. Japan's largest exporter of consumer electronics had an average return on equity, which measures how much a company earns for each dollar invested, of 0.2 percent in that span, versus an 8.3 percent return in the Topix.
Since Howard Stringer, 69, was named Sony's first non- Japanese chief executive officer in March 2005, the company has lost about $9 billion in market value, the data show. From its high four years ago, Sony's equity has decreased by $33 billion.
Sony, which posted three straight years of losses for the first time since listing its shares in 1958, on May 26 forecast net income this fiscal year that fell short of analysts' estimates by 31 percent, data compiled by Bloomberg show. "
They won't kill Sony, it will be like a bee sting, annoying can cause a stumble and a little cursing but no real damage.ferret-gamerBut sony could be allergic.
Do you honestly think a multibillion dollar company that spans half the world would permit itself to be destroyed by a bunch of nerds?
On Sony as corporation scale this whole hacking thing is like a small leg injury on bike ride :p SCE as part of Sony got hit much stroger
lol@people wishing bad on sony.
they didn't die in 2006 with the ps3 launch
they didn't die in 2007 when the ps3 game libarary was growing slowly
they didn't die in 2008 when the price was still high
they didn't die in 2009 when they were getting ont their feet with a solid library and the price was getting lower
they didn't die in 2010 when the ps3 pretty much blew away the competition by then with offing of exclusive games
they won't die in 2011 because they didn't die from the other stuff
i never understood why people looked down on sony all the time and wish for this to happen or to continue to happen.
[QUOTE="razgriz_101"]Its funny you guys insulting them and making assumptions like 'hur dur get a girlz frind'. But in all honesty do you think they care? also on an article they even said 'The fun wont stop' describing their next attack for when the store is up. They are no longer fighting for the customer now so they don't care about our opinions. Also when you saying 'can they kill sony' they take that as a challenge so its not a wise thread.give me £100 (cause im skint) a baseball bat,a blow torch and a pair of plyers and i'll f up these hill billy hackers *puts on gloves*
Seriously if they force sony out the market its a sad day and shows how pathetically relentless they are and the fact they should maybe just give up on life if their aim is to be butthurt at otheros being removed but most are bandwagoning little freaks.
viper-kid
hur dur their fun is probably a box of pizza and a keyboard along with a hacking screen..*BAM MASSIVE HARDON*
truely do find thier "activism" pathetic, it only brings more rules, it only causes more problems and hatred for their little sect.
The last attack cost Sony--a multi billion dollar company--170 million in damages. I mean, that's still a lot regardless but I don't think it's enough to bankrupt the company.Stevo_the_gamerYou people may think Sony is fine with them selling other electronics other than Video Games, but the problem is those DO NOT SELL. For example, who actually buys Sony MP3 players outside Japan? TV'S and Playstation seem to be/have been their most profitable departments.

their phone divisions, movie divions, music divisions are also still very sucessful.
A lot of smaller labels distribute with Sony as they are good at distributing....sometimes.

They were around a long time before they got into gaming and they would still be doing just fine without it.
Its a shame that people and gamers are being affected by this and I'm certainly not condoning it, but maybe big corporations will learn that sometimes when you try and stomp on the little guy, lots of little guys stomping back may have an effect.blue_hazy_basic
.. It honestly has nothing to do with stomping back.. This is 2011 people.. Hacking isa daily occurence in all settings.. Sony got caught with their pants down.. They were the weakest of the herd and were exploited by the predators stalking them.. There are numerous systems that have avoided such things happening, which leads me to believe it was Sony's own incompetence or cutting corners to cheapen it that led to this.

eh? I didn't say anything about that.... But thats what you were suggesting that hackers were passive until they reached they got their ire.. Which just isn't the case. Hacking is a daily event that we have countless security measures for.. In the end of the day it was Sony's own incompetence that led to this breach.. Hacking has been around for over a decade, Sony is a multi billion dollar company that has the technology and resources to make a extremely secure system.. They failed.
[QUOTE="viper-kid"][QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"]It's funny that you care what other people say about them. If they don't care about our opinions why should you? lolMrSelf-DestructI just find it funny is all and seems like your wasting your time trying to preach to them. well if they attack I hope its just before E3 for the lulz. I don't see anyone here trying to preach to them. I only see people giving their opinions and expressing their general disgust with what these guys are doing. And If you think attacking the gaming industry is good for the lulz then you're no better than they are. Well those 'opinions' are maybe whats egging them on, look at the thread title and tell me they have no reason to continue when you guys keep challenging them to 'kill sony'. Sony is not just games they do TVs, Laptops, Radios and more. So I don't see the need for this thread except challenging them to 'kill sony'.

No, not all. But Sony put a giant bullseye on them, which lead to a concerted effort on behalf of a group who did breach Sony's security and the suggestion by members claiming to be part of that group was that information was then used to perpertrate the later larger and more serious breaches, or do you thinkthe timingwas all coincidental? They already have. You have to be a total Sony zealout to think that Sony has shown any capability to deter this now or in the future or did a good job during this event. I'm still waiting for a Sony fanboy to answer why is it taking Sony longer to recover then smaller companies with larger networks and larger scale attacks were able to.
They might be able to get them out of the gaming market (because it stops being profitable), but killing Sony? lolz
They won't kill Sony, it will be like a bee sting, annoying can cause a stumble and a little cursing but no real damage.ferret-gamer
No real damage?? well, PSN is proof you're worng, man.
To Sony as a whole it's an annoyance. These people have no hope of doing anything meaningful to Sony. They could end up causing Sony to just say f*** it and cut off the gaming section if they keep it up long enough though. I doubt they have that much power though. Really? Considering its affacting their bottom line profits... and making people weary about the security of their service... and causing people to buy the competition hardware when PSN is down... I think it affects sony a lot and if it were to happen again, it would be bad for business.[QUOTE="TheSterls"]

I beleive 40 billion is the overall worth of the company, but they still have reserves. For a company to even think about failing or merging they need to be in debt.

I doubt many people actually went out and bought the competing hardware when PSN was down.

They don't have $40 billion to spend then, they have 8.3 and its not about failing or merging, thats reserves they have available to acquire other companies if they so wish (and what the article is encouraging them to do).Anonymous is Legion. There is nothing that They can't kill..
Really? The PSN hack caused Anon to start attacking themselves. They are not the all seeing / knowing machine they make themselves out to be. They never claimed to be, only people who don't understand what anon is, and what the group hacking PSN are, would say that.Really? The PSN hack caused Anon to start attacking themselves.Jynxzor
They only made us *think* that they started attacking themselfs, that was mearly a illusion by Anonymous to confuse us and purposly make us underestimate them.

You're wrong, Anonymous is Legion, a machine like force which is practically unstoppable by petty mortals, if Anonymous has a common goal between them. I know this, because the voices in my head told me so. I bealieve it was the depths of the unified quantum mind that dwelves in Anonymous Itself that telepatically comunicated with me.

I stand corrected :PHarm Sony? Yes. Kill Sony? No. Sony has other divisions like Music, Movies, TV's,etc. But still, I don't think their gaming division would die.
