[QUOTE="CanYouDiglt"]Sony is the only company to have shown any interest in blocking used games. They filed a patent for blocking them. Microsoft has never said or done anything to make anyone think they are interested in doing that. It is just rumors from unnamed sources that fanboys have latched onto. CanYouDiglt

Get your facts straight:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-21-sony-tells-eurogamer-playstation-4-will-not-block-used-games

Not that fanboys are actually interested in facts...

What does that have to do with what I said?

Sony patents tech to block used games

Sony is the only company to have made advances into blocking used games. Microsoft to my knowledge has not said or done anything in taking steps to block used games like Sony has.

Thank god you actually read the article! It also says:

"Interestingly, I also spoke to a Sony source elsewhere at the event this evening who told me that the anti used-game patent discovered last month was actually nothing to do with PlayStation 4 at all. The patent suggested that discs would come branded with a contactless tag that could be recognised and read by your console, which would then bind it to you and prevent you from selling it on. But whatever reason Sony did have for patenting it, it sounds like it wasn't for its next-generation console. Hopefully Microsoft will also avoid this ludicrous technology with its next-generation Xbox as well."

Sony wasnt a step ahead with the ps3, weaker video card, hard to program architecture, and released a year late... sooo your point is already invalid.

actually they were. sony funded the r&d for the xenon the xbox uses. the only reason the ps3 was delayed was because blu ray wasn't ready yet.

the xenon wasn't really a leap ahead in tech though, the xenos however was where M$ was easily a step ahead, and the shared memory architecture. Sony made a lot of mistakes with the ps3 and the hardware is basically canned at this point. Sony is going the complete modest route this time around, the hardware while powerful isn't very aggressive in terms of hardware advancement for a console. If M$ was smart they could easily be sitting on a more powerful design, they probably had a base design and experimented with scaling it and waited for Sony to show the ps4 off first. That way they could use the time to redo all of their announcements.

Not really. Microsoft got a lot more marketshares from Sony this generation. They also mad more profits each year then Sony. Sold more software and more units. If that's being owned, I'm sure Microsoft would want to get owned all the time. Sony was slayed this generation by Nintendo and Microsoft. That's a fact. Trying to come back the last year of a generation is really irrelevant at this point. Too little, too late.

The PS4 will have the ability to block used games, it isn't mandatory though, it's up to the game publishers to decide to use it or not. But you'd be fooling yourself to think third party multiplatforms won't use anti-used game features on the PS4. The PC and next Xbox won't be allowing for it. If given the choice to use it on the PS4 then of course they're going to use it, why wouldn't they. What are people going to do, get a Wii U?

Yet the 720 is the only console rumored to be always online to even launch a game, which could be MS way of certifying that every game is unique..

[QUOTE="Tony-Baxter"]Rumors leading up to the PS4 announcement made us think Sony was dropping used games. Maybe that was intentional on Sony's part so MS would feel like it wouldn't hurt them to go ahead and do that w/x720.TheXFiles88

ORLY? This $ony's patent says HI!!!

"Sony Files Patent To Curb Access To Used Video Games"

Sony (NYSE: SNE) may have its hands full trying to reassert its prominence at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, but the companys PlayStation division has been hard at work addressing another issue: used games. The Tokyo-based Japanese tech company has patented new technology to prevent use of second-hand video game discs on its consoles.

Yet is the 720 the one rumor to be always online, something need it for windows type DRM and is basically a most for windows activations...

[QUOTE="Mrmedia01"]

Maybe Sony Tricked them

I think MS thought they were going to have 4GB DDR3 but then PS4 is announced with 8GB DDR5

MS is going to have 8 GB DDR3 according to rumors. So I think MS is getting tricked all over the place.

lezgoyolo

I think Micracist got everyone tricked. The next gen COD probably will only launch with the Nextbox, that game itself will probably outsell all the PS4 launch games combined. The next gen console specs will be similar ao COD superior multiplat on Nexthox again, timed exclusive, etc. COD is Micracist's secret weapon, that game is the market holder right there

so you pretty much only care about sales next gen and not games? seriously what is with you Lemmings only caring about what sells and what doesnt?

and do you really think the next CoD will be exclusive? youre really deluded.

marketshares is the most important thing for Lemmings, they dont care about games just as long as they know they got some marketshares.

[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]What facts would he need to get straight? The fact that your article confirms it and Sony confirms they filed a patent to block used media? Or that Microsoft has mever shown any such intent? CanYouDigIt at no point says the ps4 blocks used games but he is right that the intent is there from sony; you dont file a patent for nothing.slaves

Actually companies file patents all the time and nothing ever comes out it. In the case of Sony just look at all the crap they've patent in the last year or two and nothing has happened with it, not to say something wont happened but its really not unusual.

Eyepad tablet controller, tech blocking second hand gaming, tech adding trophies to all games, dual shock/move controller that splits, universal 3D glasses, tech used to identify pirated software, touch force detection microphone and gaming controller, HMD glasses, Vita with a HDMI and USB ports, Move controller that changes temperature, a pillow that wakes you up, and tech for interactive advertisments.

soo what your saying is that companies patent things just to sit on them...derp sitting is doing something derp therefor you dont patent something for no reason....taaaaadaaaaa..

Companies file a crap load of patents and do nothing with them. They do it just for the sake of having leverage if someone eventually does try to do whatever. They try to keep their lawyers doing something at all times so a crapload of random stuff gets attempted to be patented in the off chance someone lets something unexpected through. Ultimately this ends up screwing over the little guy with a good idea that doesn't have enough money for lawyer fees. Source: My dad the patent examiner complaining on and on and on about it. :/

odd you would congradulate him on something you were unable to do with his original post where he never claimed the ps4 blocked used games or the patent applied to the ps4. but again you confirmed that yes sony filed a patent to block used games.

Not really if at all. They just try to get so much in the system that something gets through that normally wouldn't in that it's already being done. Recent patent system changes make that a lot easier too. And big corporations don't generally do a lot of trolling. It's so that they have leverage when they use someone else's patents. Like they'll use each others with it implied that if you sue me for using yours I'll sue you for using mine and in the end no one gets sued, though sometimes its a mess.
