I think it's possible the next-gen consoles will make the smallest technical jump compared to the previous gens.
First of all, the Wii U supposedly won't be "drastically" better than the HD twins, secondly the next Xbox will supposedly use an APU (which ends any hopes that it'll be a graphical monster of any kind) and the PS4 supposedly won't even be much better than the PS3 (likely an updated PS3 with a touch-sceen/motion controller). Furthermore the next-gen consoles will focus even more on casual gaming and motion-controllers.
From my perspective that's not all that bad because I honestly expect the next-gen to be more of an enhanced current-gen (true HD graphics, improved motion controllers, more disk space, more focus on digital distribution, ect.) and it would force the console devs to make more original games instead of just focusing on the graphics. The prices of the consoles should also be lower and more aking to the pre-HD era.
