Could the next-gen consoles make the smallest generational jump, technically?

KC_Hokie the next generation always makes a significant jump

nope the only significant leap was 2d to 3d i just disproved what you said.

heeeeeeeeeweeee

The difference between every generation turns out to be significant.

this generation did nothing new.

Good luck with that argument. No difference between Xbox and Xbox 360 games...and no difference between PS2 and PS3 games?

Putting the GPU on the same die with the CPU, making it an APU, is actually a great idea for getting the most out of a system. And I expect that you'll change your mind when you actually see games in true 1080p with tons of tessellation, anti-aliasing, anistropic filtering, etc. and tons of effects and enemies on screen at once...superclocked
Yep. They also don't really need the next wave of consoles to blow away the visuals of this gen. Games are really looking great lately and while I'd like them to look better, I'm more interested in improved draw distances, bigger maps like the PC gets, with more players available like BF3 for the PC, better textures, and more storage space.

People don't expect the WiiU to be drasticly better than the current consoles, but don't take into account its going to be using 2010 hardware instead of 2004... Its going to edge out the PS3 for sure

If consoles go from standard 720p to 1080p that will be a 200% improvement by itself. jedikevin2

But I thought Console users said the difference between 720p and 1080p is slight :o

Lawl people who say that don't own a 1080p TV. Either that or they own a small 1080p TV, like 32 inches or something.

With native 1920x1080 games, devs won't really have to worry about anti-aliasing. That's what I look forward to, jaggie-free games. :D

I play at 1080p and need 4xaa to get rid of the jaggies

Even if the hardware jump was as big I wouldn't expect to see it show in as many games due to the increase in development costs that would come with it.

That means that any new gaming hardware is useless and will never actually be used ?

Yawn another thread In which I must correct people on. Look the next gen consoles will be another big leap in terms of visuals there is a big difference when going from 512mb ram, 240 shader pipe, 3.2 ghz CPU. For what it's worth they got all they could out of that level of hardware but to jump to a strong quad-hex core CPU@3.5-4.0ghz, 2-4gig gddr5, gpu with 800-1000 shader cores that is a big step up. To people thinking they are going to throw parts in from 2009 lol only wii u will be doing that. These are conservative estimates on my part aswell.

WiiU seems very underpowered, its visuals even in the tech demo are not any better than the actual games ofxbox 360/PS3

Seems the tablet that costs an arm and a leg made them go very concervative in hardware

But i fully expect xbox 720 to have the biggest jump in vsuals this world has ever seen, i mean 8 years worth of hardware advances, biggest jump ever

Things will be a generation gap with how the console will be far more sreamlined, easier access to online content, faster, smoother experince all around, maybe multi tasking thrown in. Im trying to say the generation leap will be in other things apart from the graphics.

It will be the biggest jump yet, without a doubt, since it has been the longest generation so far

8 years better hardware will make for a near infinite jump in visuals, on xbox 720 at least

You know nothing of it's power. They're tech demos. Not pre-rendered bullcrap that Sony or MS feed us.

It's not a tablet. It also won't cost as much as you think it will.

720 will go cloud gaming if anything. Microsoft has given up on the core. They clearly don't give a s**t about real gaming. It'll still get it's ass kicked by PC.
