Could we eventually see entire tv show box sets on single blu ray disks?

Just another thought, if the dual layered Blu Ray disk can hold upto 50GB, could that give it the potential to replace tv show box sets with disks featuring the entire series or whatever on a single Blu Ray disk? Discuss.

In order to fit an entire tv show box set on one 50 disc, the audio/video would not be in high definition, thus ruining the entire point of Blu Ray.

There are quad layered 100 gb discs though that you appearantly didn't know about when you made this topic. Maybe they could fit an entire box set on one of those.

This is another reason why I think bluray will play a big factor and will be needed. Imagine having like a trilogy of each movie on one bluray disk or anime series on one bluray disk. Damn that would make things alot easyer then changing all them damn disk to watch each movie or anime shows.clintos59

i doubt in High Definition theyd be able to fit an entire box set into 100GB still

Depends on the show. Some shows have a ton of episodes per season, some have hardly any. Some shows are pretty long, some are pretty short. They might need two discs, but still... that's nothing compared to most box sets these days.

Example: They can fit 3 hour high def movies on one 50 gb Blu ray. So lets say they could fit 6 or more hours of HD video on a 100 gb. Most shows are usually around 20 minutes long. That's 18 episodes on ONE DISC. 100 gb is plenty.

50 gb blu ray = 3 hours of HD video ---> 100 gb blu ray = 6 hours of HD video

one show = 20 minutes ---> 6 hours of shows = 18 episodes = 100 gb = 1 blu ray disc

So yeah. They may very well be able to fit an entire box set on one Blu Ray when you think about it.

ah unless this TV show was like 4 hrs long, no. Of course you could always sacrafice picture quality but you're never going to fit it on one Blu-ray disc.

No because in the dvd world multi-disc sets have been percieved as an added value feature for almost 15 years now. 1st they release a bare bones version then they bring out the multi-disc collectors version later. Also why would you release on BD then not put it in HD. For a season to fit on one bd disc it would have to be in standard def.

Multi-disc sets will not go away anytime soon just look at the Spiderman movies for conformation they are an hour and a half long yet still come on multi-disc sets.

You didn't read my post. They could probably fit 6+ hours aka 18+ episodes of full quality 1080p tv shows on one 100 gb Blu Ray disc.

And add that the Blu-Ray technology is looking to have a 200 gig Blu-Ray disc in the future. Then there will be more than enough room for this kind of media.

I think they could, Unless It's like the entire 7 series of a show or something, and it's just like 1 series, usually that's only 2 disks sometimes 3, they'd easily fit that onto one 100GB Blu-ray disk.

I think so. I just rented the Company on Blu-Ray, everyhting including speacial features fit on 2 discs. The regualr version I saw had 5 or 6 discs, so yeah I think they will eventually be on One disc.

Their mega multi layered disks for Blu-Ray..

They even have a 1TB disk in the works compatible with all blu-ray players old and new...

Yeah I think that, that is a major improvement. I'd rather only have two discs instead of five or six per season. For instance me and my gf are currently going through Six Feet Under, and I'd much rather have 2 BD per season then the 4-5 it stands at right now.

So I do see in the future BD playing a pretty huge part the tv show market.

disks like that would be hella expensive though, it would be cheaper to do huge box sets then to have a whole series on a disk that big at this point, when the price of disks that big do go down then i could see them using it
