Why does this crap still exist? Im talking ofc of Games for Windows live... No PC gamer wants this trash on there PC. It offers nothing but a pain in the ass, higher costs, bad service, run by a company that wants to kill PC gaming. They want a slice of steam's pootang pie that's all. The worst part is this crap is still being forced on our games and gamers are forced to install it.

PC gamer's get your shotguns and thinking caps on and lets stop this NOW!

MS should just hand out CD keys for steam for all the games users have bought on GFWL. Because honestly I don't see many PC gamers owning more than twenty games on the stupid service.

luckily for me GFWL hasn't caused me any problems, it logs on fine and stays out of my way while i play Warhammer or Bioshock 2. but i agree that its unnecessary, i love steam and thats really all i want on my PC

No, don't kill it. It needs a complete overhaul and some honest advertising; it could still be a cool idea.

Give them a while longer, they might still put more games on sale for 99 cents.

I won't miss GFWL if it died.

Also, some games have hacks that bypasses GFWL. I use one for GTAIV

Odd I've had nothing but a cherry time with GFWL but I have had problems with steam such as games not reigstering correctly causing me to have to contact Steam support to get them to register.

Seems to me like your making a whole lot of stuff up.

Yeah right. XBox Live on the XBox 360 works just fine for me and it's currently UP and running. I don't play many PC games anymore. I have to build a new PC just to run some of the newer games out there. I'm glad I can reinstall STEAM games on a different computer. I only have a few.

Just because you have issues with it doesn't means that everyone needs to suffer the loss. I personally like GFWL, hell, even if you don't like the game you can sell it unlike Steamworks enabled games which are tied to your account forever.

I'd like Microsoft actually to put some effort into the thing, it's been far too long that it has been a half arsed attempt; for many people if they weren't forced to use its registration process, they wouldn't bother.

I wouldn't, and I say that already with a Live account from my 360.

Oh he clearly is.

Which is why GFWL is universally praised by PC gamers as being a redeemable service.

Yep, completely.

Now delusional is the word I'm looking for here.

I haven't had any problems with GFWL, but I would prefer if the games used Steam. Aside from the achievements GFWL doesn't really do anything positive for PC games while Steam tries to make the experience more convenient.

Yeah ok:roll: Mostly all PC gaming sites hate it..including gamespot

PCGAMER.com

"Games for Windows Live is a ridiculous embarrassment for the platform. Developers: if you're using it in your upcoming game, you're not doing it right. Put it on Steam, or Impulse, or GamersGate, or sell it yourself online, or just stick it in a box. Preferably with a cloth map."

Bit-tech:

"Games for Windows Live is more like the software equivalent of flossing with barbed wire"

Stardock:

"I started out as a big Games for Windows Live advocate," said Wardell. "I intended for Elemental to be on Games for Windows Live, but then as we got closer, the Xbox group took it over more and more. And they have things where, oh, if you want to use Games for Windows Live to update your game, you have to go through [their] certification. And if you do it more than X number of times, you have to pay money. It's like, "My friends, you can't do that on the PC."

"
On the console, I don't have to update my game because an anti-virus program got an update and is now identifying my VB scripts as viruses and I have to apply an emergency patch. That would just add insult to injury. We've had to upgrade our games plenty of times over the years, not because we found some bug, but because some third-party program, or driver, or whatever screwed it up."

Gamespot hates it also:

Not at all i didn't think so many gamers liked it. If GFWL had a choice not to use its service then fine it wouldn't bother me. But installing GFWL when you install a game without a promt is bs annoying. I have it on my PC now and i dont even know what game it come with.

I think that was in regard to WilliamRLBaker's unremarkable comments.

Truth is there is a select few that actually like GFWL, and anything redeemable about it is few and far in between. I'm just glad it doesn't tie me to a client, but hey Impulse is like that, and better.

Steam broke new ground with massive teething issues, matured over time, opened up the digital distribution market and has become the gold standard.

Microsoft entered extremely late with the infrastructure of XBL and experience to back it up.

Then they singlehandedly proved they were still out of touch with the PC gaming platform since the late 90s, and continue to astound PC gamers that as a software giant which they all use their operating system - they cant even work out the basics.

Still.

When other distribution services that were in their infancy before or have emerged have stomped right past Microsoft - Direct 2 Drive, Gamers Gate, GOG, Impulse etc.

This is Microsoft, not just a small independent distributor like Stardock was.

Let that sink in.

You're missing the point that 2003 was a long while ago, and the bar is being raised by other distribution services to this day.

Even Desura is leagues ahead of GFWL, which launched this year.

Yes MODDB's own service, released this year, outclassing a service that has been around since 2009 with an existing services infrastructure - the Microsoft Service Network (since forever) and Xbox Live (2006).

Hell let's not forget the MSN Gaming Zone from the 90s.

So emerging independent services are outclassing the software giant, with less time behind them.
Steams give time isn't an excuse for MS's poor performance in the current climate.

Not only that but doesnt Steam only have 13 people working on it?

Bit-tech:

This isn't the first time that Games for Windows Live has faced ire either – it's been either broken or useless ever since it first drunkenly swaggered onto the scene and declared itself the new Steam in the way that only a Seinfeld-influenced Microsoft can. No game we've seen has benefitted from its inclusion.

Exactly why it's so broken though fits in nicely with an idea I have and a bit of trivia I learned the other day. Did you know that Valve only has 13 people working on Steam? That's because contrary to popular belief, Valve isn't actually a huge company like, say Blizzard or Microsoft.

And that's a good thing. 13 people may not seem like many, but smaller teams actually get things done faster in my experience. They're more focused and dedicated, communicate more quickly and stand a better chance of surviving a zombie apocalypse. Big companies and big teams are the exact opposite – mainly because there's more room to pass the buck around in.

13 people managed to get Steam to where it is today, bringing innovations like Steam Cloud with them, yet the whole of Microsoft's Games for Windows team can't even make it so I can download an expansion pack?

Well that's pretty amazing. I know Valve has a reputation for having an excellent developer culture, but those certainly must be competent talented employees.
