Shadowrun was microsofts original attempt at cross platform FPS between 360 and PC.

lostrib

Shadowrun is a terrible example because it was a game that was a straight port from consoles to even the field. Aim assist does not help kb/m players it slows them down and hinders precision.

I think PC players still did better, but I dont think that game really lasted very long

It was a good game though, but frustrating on PC so I ended up playing it on Xbox.

Ps3 gamers wouldn't be happy - Controllers can't aim as precise as M/KB

PC gamers wouldn't be happy - waiting longer for a necessary update

So in the end it's for the best.

The game sucks anyways. It's basically the same as the first mod for HL.

Its still a game dude. I play games to have fun. My fun in a game is not determined by me winning. Its as simple as that.

Some are suggesting their enjoyment is determined by winning. For those people I feel sorry.

VoodooHak

Again it's mostly because these are competitive games, it's the same feeling people get when they lose at a football game or a basketball game. It's a game yes but people are competitive so they get angry and part of enjoying the game is winning. Nothing to feel sorry about, that's just human nature.

I think we all understand that winning is the overall objective. It's just that people take it way too seriously.

I've always found winning to be more fun than losing.

[QUOTE="iamrob7"]

[QUOTE="reach3"] Not really. Hardcore pc players yes, but people who are masters of analog sticks would own the majority of pc players with k/m. Hardcore pc players with k/m > console players who masters of analog aiming > majority of pc players with k/m > majority of console players with analogreach3

According to Microsoft's tests, average PC gamers with K/M vastly out match the very best console players with analog sticks. To compete with K/M, you need K/M. Analog sticks will only cut it against the completely incompetent K/M users.

I have beaten many pc players at SHadowrun with analog sticks. I am not doubting mouse keyboard is far better, but majority of pc gamers arent that good with it.

Only if you intentionaly damped PC controls, like was the case of Shadowrun. Devs intentionally made the controls fleaky and unresponsive on mouse by adding artificial 1 second lag to remove the advantage. Obviously for a PC-centric game like Counter-Strike that wasn't a viable option.

Without that even the best pad player has zero chances again a competetent mouse player.

but but but but cows...I thought psn updating and such was free, fast, and easy? valve doesn't seem to think so...It would seem to me the only reason they are giving preferential treatment is because sony was willing to allow steamworks thus giving valve all the control *which in the end is what they care about not the users, but whether they are in control and making the majority of profit*...which it seems isn't all that anyways since it wont allow for updating of Counter strike seamlessly like it would on pc...

so Ps3 users get steamworks which so far doesn't benefit them in anyway most Portal 2 pc players wont play the game with ps3 users even with KB/M because the generic drivers of the ps3 make it as though you were using an old ball mouse instead of the super accurate laser mice these days *let alone that the only buttons supported at right click and left click* And now no cross platform between the pc, mac and ps3 for counter strike?

Cows have lied to us...again.

Honestly this just seems like a smart move.

I always figured CS: GO was Valve's attempt to truly refine CS, and turn it into a properly supported e-sport fit with a proper matchmaking system, and a bunch of features to allow teams to compete with each other much more easily.

It just seems like a waste of resources to focus on both the consoles and PC equally. The PC is where you focus if you want that e-sport dominance.

That's a GREAT thing for PC gamers. They would have completely ripped apart the game if they made it cross-platform play.

um maybe 360owners wouldgetowned because theyrs controller changes every gen confirming their own fact that their controllers are garbage, butnot when youve been gaming with dualshocks for almost 15 years. you would be owned by psn dualshock skills, speaking personally i would probably be claming easily over 10 K/D ratio against pc gamers and thats while munching on snacks.

I've always found winning to be more fun than losing.

I've always found that having fun makes winning or losing irrelevant. Winning is nice, but secondary.

I suppose it depends on how you define fun. In my book, fun is enjoying the game and having a good time with the people I'm playing with. Then there are people like yourself that place winning higher up on the priority list. Nothing wrong with that at all.

But there's a threshold that some people cross where winning is a top top priority, even in public games. You've heard them. They're the ones berating their teammates for not being good enough. They're the ones shouting orders and cursing when things don't go their way.

Getting back on topic...

Losing cross platform play isn't going to ruin anything. I'm sure CSGO will be plenty fun without it. But I forgot where we are. Apparently, here in SW, you can't have fun at all unless you can hold something against the system you hate.

If you really want to get into how long people have been using controllers types, I really am the wrong person to try that argument on. My first self built PC was in 1990 (I was 20 at the time), I've owned PC's since 386's were top of the range and that's not including systems like Amiga and Commodore. So lets go for a round 25 years of mouse usage.

As for fps gaming with a mouse, well that has to have been Doom which was released in 1993 and, to my knowledge, was the first fps game to use the mouse for control. That means I've been using a mouse and keyboard for fps games for 'almost' 20 years

With winning comes fun

It's not that winning is higher up on the priority list. Rather they're practically combined together into one entity.

Winning is fun. You maximize the possible enjoyment you get out of a multiplayer game by winning.

Here is an idea. Release the game finished and fully tested. Then you dont have to worry about loads of patches. Just a thought....BibiMaghoo

Here's an idea, play a PC game from a well respected developer and then realize that post-release patches are WELCOMED since well respected developers DON'T rush their games out like others. If you had any clue about "Valve time" is that they take their time; almost too much. They are very perfectionist and it shows in their product library. You have no clue what you are talking about when it comes to Valve or anything PC gaming. PC gamers love getting patches, improvements, new maps and content on a regular basis as long as the core initial product is well delivered; Which Valve Does.

Just a thought....

Don't even argue with Pinnacle Gaming, he is the dumbest poster in SW. I have gamed like you have and know the benefits of Keyboard and mouse. I play both console and PC and enjoy FPS on both but know the limits of a console. I don't care if someone spent 20 years on a controller, the highest sensitivity is usually in-game based and slower than the laggiest mouse out there. Plus the thumb just doesn't have near the dexterity and control that your entire hand has over a laser mouse. There are NO reflexes needed with console FPS (which is fine) but they are the defining competitive difference in PC gaming. This comes from a former CAL CS:S player so I do know a bit about competitive gaming. Pinnacle is just a troll fail mad consolite.

Because the PS3 has KB/M functionality, it may not be too bad. If it was just controller, then yes they would be dominated :P.

AMD Eyefinity's or NVIDIA Surround**'s extra wide screen resolution would give the PC user another advanatage. **Needs to be SLI setup.

Wasn't there some deal where it would group you according to your skill? Doesn't matter if you use a keyboard and mouse if you're absolutely awful at it.

Optical mice are better than laser. And also, pretty much all good quake players use a simple two button mouse with scroll wheel. The only games where you need extra buttons are mmo and rts.

Seeing as how Valve always continually updates their games I saw this coming.

[QUOTE="BibiMaghoo"]Here is an idea. Release the game finished and fully tested. Then you dont have to worry about loads of patches. Just a thought....

Find me an online game that doesn't require frequent patching and tweaking.

The PC Counterstrike community just breathed a collective sigh of relief. They were having nightmares about how hard finalstar was going to own them with a controller.

do you want them to take an extra 5 years just to do that? also patches made for valve games arent actually to fix bugs (most of the times) they are to either add more content or balance stuff.
