Digital, although registering the physical copy with Steam would nab you the digital copy anyway, so in that case physical being cheaper would be the better way to go. But I'd not bother with the discs after registering. They're bulky and ancient.
i got a half life pack a while ago came with a ton of games, but not the source version, i still love DOD though its beyond awesome
Got every Valve game for $49.99 (which is essentially me paying for Portal 2 and getting all of the other games for free)
Steam except for sales is very expensive! Seriously they have no excuse for charging over retail prices other than pure greed....dom2000
Difference is that Steam sets it prices after "estimated selling point (I have no idea what the terms is in english).
When you find a super cheap retail bargain, it's either a PR stunt or getting rid of bulk.
I bought the whole Counter-Strike series on steam for $7.50 last year. Anyone who has a steam account must already have the game since steam sold the game numerous times for cheap prices.
Counter Strike Source gets knocked down to $5 every big sale. Same goes to Day of Defeat and Half Life Deathmatch.
Wait for a sale and you get all of those for less than the retail price. Steam ftw.
If you're buying anything on Steam that isn't a sale, you're doing it wrong, TC.
Buying a game day one on Steam is almost never a good idea. For instance, I plan to get Deux : EX HR as soon as it releases, which is why I'm getting it from Amazon (35,99€) whereas on Steam it's priced at 44,99€
Buying it before day one is sometimes a good idea, for example I can get Red Orchestra 2 for $30 right now.If you're buying anything on Steam that isn't a sale, you're doing it wrong, TC.

I have the hard copy. The only problem is it comes on like four CDs, not DVDs. And if you wait for a sale, you can nab CS and DoD for $2.49 each.
I got it free when I bought Half Life 2. But I have thrown the hard copy away because I got The Orange Box and no longer needed Half Life 2 because it is part of The Orange Box.
