[QUOTE="AfterShafter"]I wonder... Do all the Cows who constantly bash the 360 for its failure rate forget that the PS1 and the PS2 were extremely faulty pieces of hardware that left millions of gamers buying new ones by the end of their respective gens? And do they realize that in each gen Sony's warrantee was you going into the store and either paying for repairs on your console or buying a new one entirely? Exactly what did all these Cows who now clamour about the 360's failure rate play last gen - the reliable GC and XBOX? Or was it OK for hardware to fail then if the best games came with it, just like it was OK to disk switch?

Last two gens, it was a fact about Sony products that "things break," and quite frequently at that... And Cows took it with a smile even when there were two alternative companies in each Gen releasing hardware with very, very low failure rates.. Now they can't tolerate anything but hardware that doesn't fail. What's changed? And if Sony released another failtastic console next gen like they did the previous two gens, are all of you people so indignant to the 360 with its failure rate going to jump ship to a console that doesn't die?
Viviath

sorry to break it to u, but 360 failure rates are far worse than PS1, PS2.

Got an article from, say, CNN, to prove your claim?

It's very overblown. In fact, the Playstation 2 failures should quickly nullify anything they have to say about the Xbox 360. TekkenMaster606

The PS2's problems were not as severe, especially since you could fix them youself. All you had to do was open it up and clean the laser lense with a Q-tip and some rubbing alchohol. That's nothing compared to your motherboard melting.

I'm sorry but you're not telling the truth

The largest error there was the PS2. Sony used a cog in the launch of the PS2 made out of plastic, once problems started happening they redesigned the cog out of metal and solved the problem. Also it was covered completely by Sony and people who did pay money for repairs before the metal cog was replaced had their money refunded. For some of the more "advanced" users of customer service there was never a problem getting it fixed from day one. Some of the more "novice" people dealing with customer service had to go a longer trip.

Also Sony redesigned and admitted their mistakes unlike Microsoft who keeps on saying there's no problem and keeps on selling hardware with a huge design flaw.

The DRE had nothing to do with a plastic cog. were did you get that misinformation from? The DRE in the PS2 was caused by improper voltage to the laser which caused it not to output at the proper rate to read. I had to fix probably 60 different PS2's because friends didn't want to buy a new one and I know how to fix the voltage problem. Thats the only reason I never had to get another one. My PS2 DRE'ed on me 4 times and it was a simple 10 minutes each time to fix it. The Xbox 360's failure rate is nowhere near the defect rate people on these forums claim. People that claim the failure rate is in the 30% range can't even provide a lagitimate source.

Again someone who is misinformed. The DRE was a voltage problem not a dust problem. Yes if you had your PS2 for several years without cleaning the lense on a regular basis then you would get the DRE but if you didn't clean the lense every couple of months then I don't pitty you for not taking care of your stuff.

perfectly written.

the sad thing is: lemmings will never accept it.

they need MS to admit not only the design flaw (as they already did - google it and you'll find 100s more sites with that proof ), but also the current defective rate, that must be already above the old 33%.

If someone says "the new 65nm processor is safe from the problem" that only shows how misinformed you are. the problem is a hardware design flaw on the GPU, which enters an infinite loop of processing, of unknown specific causes (some 360's only presents this fault with certain games), heating so much it shows you the 3rls.

a new, shorter and cooler CPU can help a little, but not much. nor a new heat-sinker for the GPU, since if it enters that loop, nothing can save it. only a new, re-engineered hardware, that never gets that loop, like any normal console, would be really safe from that.

HuusAsking

djgg never mentions the GPU bug. How is it you came about this knowledge, since most of the Googled links refer either to CRN Australia (where djgg got the original article) or to djgg? Let's see another link...an independent verification that describes the problem in detail?

PS. I tried Googling myself to obtain this independent proof and have yet to find a single article.

I got to know that the problem is from the GPU because Peter Moore told so to The Inquirer. He represented MS at the time, and said himself, that there's a design flaw, for 100% of the units, that makes the GPU go to that loop of death, be it for bad luck, or some game that triggers it. That's why some ppl only have the problem when playing certain games. Peter Moore was fired not long after that, probably because he was admiting something MS didn't want to...

Also, MS never released their numbers for the defective rates after extending the warrranty. They would have to lie about those numbers if they intended to show a low %. So they just keep with the previous one they got (probably forged too).

So lemmings will always keep believing that cows, on SW, created a problem that MS themselves admitted, and is getting a 1.8 billion USD blow for it. Wow, cows are pretty powerful uh?

Lemms will never accept the numerous surveys that showed the 33% rate (there was one even here, in GS) around the world, the retailers numbers, etc. All showed the same number: 33%.

u want to believe in coincidence, go ahead... but MS already admitted the 100% faulty hardware. that should be enough for any number of current defective rates out there.

Poor Cows only have the following ammunition left for them to use in their weak arguments:

RROD (Falcon chip will take that argument away from Cows)

MGS4 (Could come to the 360 - imagine how sad Cows will be)

FF (Could come to the 360 - imagine how sad Cows will be)

Since those two games are so far off in the future, they can only battle the 360s superiority by screaming "RROD" as loud as they can. Alas, nobody really listens to them not matter how hard they shout.

Yes, the new catch phrase. "Imagine."

Just because sony went through does NOT give microsoft an excuse for not fixing their hardware problems. The fact is they shouldn't be having ANY hardware problems regardless of what sony has done. This argument is weird because its like a kid getting in trouble from doing drugs but is like "but my friend did it too!" would he be off the hook? didn't think so.

PS1=good, been running since 95 with no issues.

PS2=it stopped reading new games when Kingdom Hearts came out..then I got a new one, and its been perfect

PS3=froze 3 times, solid structure.

Everyone I know that has a 360...well they all got those damned red lights from hell.

Wow, look at all the Cows coming in saying "ZOMG I'VE HAD ONE RUNNING PERFECTLY SINCE THE SOVIET EMPIRE FELL!"... Funny how that's not taken seriously when a 360 user says "Yeah, mine's been working since launch perfectly."

WTF? 360 failure rate>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ps1+ps2+ps3 failure rate

not even combine the rate of the3 PS console can beat the 360 tremendous failure rate

the 360 is a disaster , why people dont admit the problem is big , i mean MS pay a billion you think MS will pay that kind of money to solve a little problem

lol:lol:. Let me just tell you now, I am no fanboy, I could careless what the hell you play and what you like. I am stating facts, my PS2 died and I had to get a new one, sucks bad, but it hasnt broken since. PS1 never broke on me. PS3 is still going good. When the hell have I ever said that 360 owners who have had their systems at launch and are still going strong are liars? The truth is 3 of my friends 360s died on them, one bricked during and update..the 4th..well he had his since launch and it went red on him 3 weeks before Halo 3, so he missed all that fun.

AFTEFSHAFTER

but that don't change the factof the 360 having the highest failure rate of the history

and my ps2 and ps1 is working fine , well the ps1 work sometimes and i have to put it in a lateral position BUT IS WORKING

compare to the 360 taking care of it , having a couple of days without palying then someday RROD while playing gear of war. in a period of less than a year broke down

so lets put the fanboyism aside LOL, we cannot cover the whole sky with our hand

I sent in my PS2 2 years after I got it and they still repaired it for free (although it rebroke a couple of months later)...but hey at least I got a free game, better than a 1 month free xbox live card.

Xbox360 is down right a piece of crap. It's unreliable. Why even defend it? Defend the games, not the system. You'll lose if you try.

Yea right, Sony refused to fix millions of units. Even after thecourts decided Sony hardware was faulty they still refused to admit their failure. It's fine being a blind fanboy but at least know the history of the console you blindly follow.

I don't think the PS2 failure rates were anywhere near as bad as the 360's. However, I don't think Sony did as much as Microsoft to rectify the situation. Either way though, a hardware problem is a hardware problem, and 360's are still defective. Until Microsoft fixes that, like Sony did with the PS2, I don't mind cows saying whatever they want about it.

Don't worry about it lemmings, the PS3 still doesn't havea fourth of your game library (at least in terms of quality games)so fanboys on each side have some ammunition. Hopefully next year Microsoft will have their hardware fixed and Sony will have its AAA games so we can all just enjoy gaming.

The Inquirer is not a reliable source of news. To put it in perspective, this same organization gave an article around 2006 that said that the PS3 hardware was severly crippled and that it would seriously hamper game development (in truth, there is a slow interconnect between some of the PS3's components, but this bottleneck occurs in an area not expected to be put to use).

If what Peter Moore said was well and true, it would've graduated to the trusted news sites...like GameSpot itself, which I note had not said one word on the matter. Neither has IGN, 1up, CNN, or anyone else one could say is a reliable news source. And before you say, "Microsoft could've paid them off," I would think at least one of these sites is either Sony-friendly, Microsoft-hostile, or simply gutsy enough to perform the necessary investigative journalism to prove the case.

At least the PS2 was easy to fix, clean the lens or ajust the gears- and the DRE didn't show up for a long time.

I love my 360 but I'm scared to play the damn thing.
