The MGS series is an AAA franchise. Always has been, always will be.
Even if some people are going crazy for MGS4 (enough with the "second coming" crap!), the game looks stellar.
I saw MGS 3 on the PS2 in $20 bargain bins within a few months. I saw lots of stores stuck with several overstock copies when it was new and priced at $50. Ask people who started gaming last generation, and what PlayStation exclusives stick out, and I seirously doubt the MGS series is even top ten. MGS is living off of past glory for everyone who ever played the first PS1 version. The series has been meh ever since. It's much like Gran Turismo. Was impressive back in the day but meh now. Overrated? MGS is huge in American and Japan.. hell they even included Snake in SSBB. (No it was not Sony who paid Nintendo millions of dollars to have Snake, its just that Snake is a huge gaming icon in Japan and Nintendo wanted him to be in it). Obviously your biased towards Wii/360, by just bashing Gran Turismo too, another great game.
Its okay, just admit that its going to be good, hell I love Mass Effect and SMG
[QUOTE="Waffle_Fish"]MGS still kicks ass, it has never been a casual series, so it has never sold wellmentzer
Jees....SW these days are full of kids that don't know a damn thing.
I think he means that MGS3 didn't sell well. It actually sold pretty well (4 million).
[QUOTE="LibertySaint"]hype=fans act super ***** lol.... after releaase no one cares anymore, fact.u8muhrice
thats because we will be too busy playing MGS to even bother :-)
...And after MGS4, MGS Online, eh? :P
[QUOTE="numba1234"]I hate the mgs series. Boring gameplay, that I can't stand. Never understoody the hype for stealth games. What is the fun out of hiding in a dark spot for 30 seconds, before the enemy turns his side on you?The__MCP
Yeah, you really have to like that stealth gameplay and the sometimes extended yawn storylines. It takes a certain type of person to really enjoy that game. It was all new and cool in the PS1 days but it's more of a niche game now. It's not even as popular as the Splinter Cell series now. Cows don't realize this, let's not burst their bubble.
Splinter CEll series is worse. I couldn't find enjoyment after the first level. Never enjoyed stealth games though.A typo. :(.Wasnt MGS a 10million plus seller, it got high praise and is still a revolutionary influence on lots of other games? Didnt MGS 2 blow everybody away with the graphics, hype ect. and it scored something like 9.6 here on gamespot? Isnt MGS 3 quoted on gamespots forums as being one of the most emotional games ever? Hasnt the series maintained an epic and story driver cinematic experience consistantly?
I guess its just trash and 10's of millions of fans have poor judgement. Personally i think your missing out, but whatever dude. Im buying MGS4 day one, and im sure 100s of other gamespot members are too.

The point is that the stealth genre is not as popular as cows like to think. I'm willing to bet if not for the Tom Clancy name, Splinter Cell would never have become the sequel machine it blossomed into. They have their fans, but saying MGS4 is the exclusive hit that will launch PS3 over 360 and Wii is wrong. The fanbase for these types of games isn't as big as it used to be when MGS (and MGS2) were so popular. You could say the same thing about Final Fantasy 13. I'm going to buy PS3 for it, but it's still not the same hype machine that JRPGs and Square were back in the PS1 days. I think PS3 is going to face some of the same issues Gamecube did. Living off of past glory with their franchises.... at least in North America. I think most of the new popular exclusive franchises are coming out on Xbox these days. PlayStation still has some new exceptions such as the God of War series.

Coming from a ture "Only Play First Person Shooters". It other games out there you know!
Ok so MGS doesn't have a lot of pulling power I will agree here it probably wont sell PS3's alone, but GT does and will so I have no idea why you used that as an example unless you are completely bias against Sony. csliney
I agree, it's probably a bad example. GT still has a lot of casual power. Dudes who don't play many video games will hop in the store for a brand new copy of GT.
