Fat Phil's legacy, all exclusives dumped on PC to be pirated at will and Crackdown 3 an incredibly ugly indie class game as their big AAA first party exclusive.

Fine job there fella, all excuses we are sitting here waiting for the big explanation from braindead Lemmings go for it you can't look any more stupid than you have done right from day one of this gen.

Why did they bother keeping this garbage in development for so long. Crackdown 1 and 2 were both mediocre games and this is whats being advertised for the X1X. I fully intend on getting the system, but **** it, just stick to advertising some decent 3rd party games. Waste of ad space.

Watched a couple of the walkthrough videos at SDCC and the game world looks sweet for the campaign. Will be my first game played on xbox one x, co-op going to be insane.

Have they cracked Forza H3 release build?

Forza H3 dev build was leaked and it's inferior to the release build's performance.

MS's games that was cracked was compromised by Steam's weak DRM.

This one just isn't grabbing me. :/

It's hard to place what exactly it is. I love all the ways you can interact with the world but the receiving end of that interaction just isn't very interesting. Maybe if the enemies were equally as engaging in the combat loop it would be fun.

Mid-air dumpster throwing battles could be fun if the enemy AI was a bit more aligned with the player's skill set. I dunno, maybe that would have helped engage me a little more. There are other Xbox One games I am interested in trying instead.

Amazing that people will talk down on Crackdown's style but roll out a red carpet for Ratchet & Clank. You must be kidding.

This series has wasted so much fucking potential.

There was potential?

mmhmm. The first game is actually fairly fun if shallower than it should be. The framework is great, the story is basically this simple as you are a super cop, go clean up the city, and come see at the ending. So automatically the game shutting the **** up is a bonus point to Champ. And you are free to go whereever, when ever so long as you can deal. Want to go to the island with the tallest buildings and most decked out dudes? Go for it. Or do what is a clear sense of progression.

And in that space between your speed n jump height, to all the weapons you have access too, to the different environment props, and how the main gang headquarters are handled you have multiple points of attack n options at your disposal. The problem is that the game could rarely keep you honest, as death penalties were borderline non-existent, and while the attack points had multiple points, they were, rarely all that unique from each other n terms of options with your tactics. Sans like 2 or 3.

As it stands all the stuff people are creaming their jeans about with things MGSV or Breath of the Wild, or what people love about the original Crysis, Crackdown was essentially doing some of that stuff that year in 07. It was just shallow, but the potential for it to mop the floor with the other sandbox games was always there. The sequels have just tried to "improve" n really stupid n pointless way it seems. Although they were on to something with the destruction idea, but they didn't need to go full every particle ever with the destruction or some shit. Something like what Red Faction Guerilla had would be dope in Crackdown.

There was only one sequel, and it messed up by following the trend and introducing zombies. This one seems to go back to it roots of collecting orbs and weaponry. The physics of the original were not the greatest. All they needed to do is tighten that up and give more of what was already there. Crackdown to me is similar to a game called 'One' that was on the original Playstation in the late 90's, except this is open world. Now that was a franchise that had potential. The first game where my character truly felt God tier.

That's because Ratchet and Clank's style is a lot better defined and has great animation.

Crackdown looks like a student project both style-wise and in terms of animation.

It has nothing to do with personal preference.

Notice how one character feels alive and has weight, while the other doesn't.

I said whatever floats your boat. You prefer the less serious game on rails, I get it. You might as well do the same for Sunset Overdrive vs Crackdown while youre at it.

Sunset Overdrive and R&C has the same style, except SO is open world. Im just being fair since R&C is linear. I brought it up to say that Crackdowns style is not worst than either of those. You want to talk about weight, and I dont see it other than Ratchets ears flopping around? Meanwhile the Crackdown 3 character just left a crack in the concrete. The reflection in the street in your Crackdown footage alone owns the R&C vid. Is it the mixture of realism and cartoon that rubs you the wrong way?

@draign: let me try: the movement looks janky and like it's from GTAIV at best. The caliber of destruction remind me of Red Faction 2 (very little of the env is actually destructible in the video - the interaction is largely with throwing around loose objects like dumpsters), but plopped outside in a world that looks like Infamous 1. You brought up R&C, which oozes style and has fantastic character animation, and you then brought up SSOD, which also smokes what we are seeing here. The main thing this has going on is good effects lighting ... but that doesn't surpass either of the aforementioned titles.

This is an alpha build. Are they still planning on using the cloud compute for destructive environments? Could explain the lack of it.

My god that game look bland..

Yeah what with the lack of destruction?

Also i don't think the game is on Alpha the game is do in a couple of months the game should go gold in October.

You may feel that the movement is janky. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but the gameplay is also faster so SSOD might be a better comparison. SSOD is all about the character style and its great, but the rest doesnt appear to be better than Crackdown 3. Crackdown 3s city is alive and not just a pocket of freaks popping out of man hole covers here and there. To say the world looks like Infamous 1 is just flat out false.

Awful.

But don't worry- there's lot of games planned for the future, just too early to reveal any of them.

Sigh.

It's clearly taking advantage of newer effects - smoke, lighting, etc. And of course there's a resolution bump and draw distance boost. But It doesn't look modern at all! Good lord, that first scene where he's crossing the street and tosses the dumpster ~2:10... a bunch of low-poly cars bumping around mindlessly, the dumpster floats through the air, and whiffs soundlessly with a little janky physics as it hits the far wall... this looks straight out of GTAIV+Infamous in terms of both visuals and the gameplay. It's extremely dated. BTW, he doesn't damage the ground when he lands - it's a temporary visual effect like footprints in the snow.

All the reasons you gave explained why the Infamous comparison was false. Im also not sure why you provided this comparison pic since the only thing I can make out is the Infamous character. Everything else is blurred to hell. I dont know why anyone would say Crackdown 3 is outdated when Persona 5 is another toon styled game recently released.

The two games are completely different for starters. How are you comparing one with the other?

For open world third person games Crackdown 3 looks WAAYYYYY outdated. In looks it actually looks comparable to last gen Infamous, maybe just a bit better and the animation of movement of the character actually looks even older, the Infamous animations are way better. The Crackdown character animations look stiff like hell, it looks like a original Xbox game in that respect.

@draign: I'd distinguish between the physics engines, graphics and visual style of a game.

The Crackdown 3 physics engine looks old. It looks like the same Havok Engine which has never really been an impressive physics engine to begin with.

Persona 5, a game running on PS3 is of course going to be limited in terms of what it can do graphically but it has a cohesive art direction that is pretty.

Looking at Breath of the Wild too which released on two devices that are both limiting what can be done graphically suffers from pop-in and sometimes dodgy textures but also has a really handsome art style and very weighty and believable physics engine.

Crackdown 3, though I liked the cel-shaded style of the original; hasn't really evolved beyond its routes. It still looks the same bouncy and fake physics engine Havok supplies and the art style just isn't really doing it for me. It's sparse in detail like many cel-shaded games but the darker colors and urban concrete don't really benefit from it so nothing really pops in that flat shading - probably why anime inspired games benefit so much from cel-shading.

So personally I'd separate my feelings towards Crackdown's visuals by saying the physics engine looks outdated while the art style just doesn't look appealing.

It doesn't make sense to me; comparing the physics engine of one game to the art style of another.

I compared them because they are both cartoonish. People want Crackdown to be something it is not. In comparison to Crackdown 1 and 2, this sequel looks great. I don't think anyone who played the initial Crackdown expected this game to be the Last Of Us 2 or even GTA V for that matter.

@xantufrog: The game could still turn out fun though. At the very least, it's probably going to be a fun sandbox game with many tools to take on your missions.

Personally speaking, I am more interested in Sea of Thieves.

I understand your stance completely. Thats why I couldnt bring myself to say one game was better than the other even though I prefer Crackdown to all the games mentioned. I just didnt understand why it was being ripped when there are other popular toonish games around. I know its all preference : )

I hear and dont blame you. This game is just a modern day Pac Man for me, collecting orbs and taking it to the enemy. I just want the shiny new model.

This looks a lot worse than what I was expecting. I'm not talking about the graphics, but the physics and gameplay both look like an early last gen game. The graphics aren't helping it, but graphics aren't a huge deal with me.

MS should have cancelled this and kept Scalebound in development. I'm not seeing why they stuck with this game like they have. I just don't see the hype for it. MS saving me money, because unless this is overhauled prior to release, this is a no buy for me.

The artstyle kind of reminds me of Borderlands tbh

The game itself welp yeah... I wouldn't buy it.

Odd. Looks like Saints Row 4 to me. Eye of the beholder suppose.

At least we can both clearly see shit.

Have the material textures and lighting still to added? It's looking very, very flat and bland.

The animations lack a sense of weight... Looks very floaty and 2009-ish.

That's not a visual critique, animations are important for the gameplay to feel responsive and satisfying.

The way I see it, everything has these like black lines around edges, which reminded me of Borderlands. Almost like drawing a picture with black lines and just filling in the color. Obviously the environment doesn't look like it's from Borderlands, but I'm not sure what you would call it? The aesthetic? Sort of like if you see in this Borderlands image, every thing is outlined by black.

Crackdowngrade has become a laughingstock on youtube. It's crazy that MS is trying to use this as a showcase for the X, looks two generations behind games like Spider-Man and God of War.

There was only one sequel, and it messed up by following the trend and introducing zombies. This one seems to go back to it roots of collecting orbs and weaponry. The physics of the original were not the greatest. All they needed to do is tighten that up and give more of what was already there.

Going back to the roots would just be a small fix, yeah we're back to at least what Crackdown's core should be, but it's evolving or adding the necessary depth to make good on its premise. Anything that looks fun about it makes me go "Meh, I'll just buy Crackdown 1 again when it's on XBox One BC"

On the idea of Crackdown 3 going back to the roots of the original title, the game is being directed by the original director David Jones (Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto, Crackdown). That probably explains the revert in vision back to the idea of the original Crackdown. Hopefully it expands more on that vision than the videos have shown thus far.

They should just stick to showcasing the destruction on multiplayer. Phil probably looked at offline campaign and said f***. Get Terry Crewz to sell this shit before I cancel it.

Multiplayer could make this a hit, because it looked great to play. I just hope what they showed will turn out when it releases.
