@primorandomguy: what comes around goes around :)
@drlostrib:
It's the exact same game as it was back then. Of course it's not going to appeal to new gamers. This is obviously meant for old fans of the series. **** the score, it's an immediate 10/10 to me BECAUSE it's exactly the same as it always was! I can still play the original ps1 Crash games, that was never an issue for me.
@kuu2: Crash was one of the key players in the rise of the Playstation. He was an iconic character in the 90s but died out pretty quickly when the PS2 hit.
Wrath of Cortex on PS2 sold 6 million. But it was shit and made people loose interest after that.
Mario 64 was and always will be superior to Crash confirmed? :P
I'll be picking the trilogy up someday- either on Xbox One or when I get a PS4 someday
I used to love this series, 100% completed all the games. Even I get the feeling my memory of this series is better than the actual quality of the games.
I have fond memories of the second and third Crash games as well as a few of the spin-offs like Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash. I've been replaying those games recently on the PS1 and they certainly aren't what I remember. The levels are short for one thing, I blew past the first Warp room in Crash Bandicoot Warped in less than 30 minutes I'd say. Didn't get all the collectibles, but it still shows how the pacing and difficulty has become remarkably different as I got older. I remember the game being much harder, but that must have been due to my younger age/brain.
Time has definitely taken its toll on the original Crash games and it doesn't help that my original controller is starting to not function properly. The games have been significantly outclassed by others in the platforming genre, then and now. Still love them in a more nostalgic way, but won't deny their evident flaws.

And then the Crash series got replaced with the Jak & Daxter series.

As is often the case with most of Sony's most iconic game heroes. Nathan who?
They wouldn't review Polybius, but they reviewed this?
Spoiler alert: We've played these games before. A review won't change anything... A nostalgia cash-in doesn't need to be graded, does it?
I'm not sure. particularly, the control updates will benefit the first game greatly so that is worth exploring again to see the difference.

Oh, I thought it was just a remaster. All the marketing stuff shows the old game side by side with the new ones. Good to know.

uh, okay
Sounds about right.... That's probably what the original trilogy is.
Fun for a while but nothing amazing.
pretty much
@pelvist: Lots of people actually, any other dumb questions?
Really? Name them then./

Nobody asked for this remake. But when PS fans found out it was coming, they pretended that they couldn't wait for this AAAAAAAE 4K 60fps game on their PS Pro. Then they found out it was coming out on Xbox, was only 1440p and 30fps on the PS Pro and received a 6 on GS that they never wanted it to begin with.
It's a slippery slope up here in GS.
Review Roundup
- Gamespot- 6/10
- IGN- 8.5/10
- Game Informer- 8/10
Games Radar- 3.5/5
Trusted Reviews- 3/5
TheSixthAxis- 9/10
So on average we're sitting at about 7.4/10. Not great but certainly not bad. Also sitting at 82 on Metacritic. Haters, carry on.
@Wasdie: This was back when people thought your console had to have a mascot. Crash filled that void for Sony. They pumped all kinds of money marketing Crash to its base. In the end though the game ultimately didn't have the staying power that Mario, Banjo, and Sonic did. The character basically lasted a gen and is a nostalgic memory. I played this game though as an adult (no association to my childhood) and I found it shallow compared to the greats of platforming.
Ummmm excuse me but, Spyro was a hell lot better and not only that, it's still consider the only platform to have an open-world with limited tech at the time. Crash may have been Sony's mascot but Spyro also was one who show us what an actual platform game could be on PS1. I was more into Spyro the Dragon game then Crash series all together. Spyro the Dragon games were the answer to Legend of Zelda for the PS1.

I especially think that fans of the original Crash Bandicoot title would love to try out the remastered version. One of the most obvious points of contention toward that game were the D-Pad controls which have now been replaced for the analog controls that were introduced in Crash 2 and Crash 3.
It will make the original game way more playable.
@valgaav_219: I'd assert that the score of any review is probably the least useful, least detailed and least specific piece of information to take from a piece of critique. :P
Scores just don't make much sense, right? They're numerical expressions on an objective scale. None of them have any world logic as they come from people of different backgrounds with different feelings and preferences. The idea of grading something comes from meeting some objective quality but while video games and other artistic mediums have objective truths, the usual resultant of a writing, its summary and score are coming from the subjective element which, really a score is not a valuable denominator of that information.
Anthony Fantano, a music critic on Youtube, closes off many of his reviews with score typically expressed with the words "I'm feeling like a decent 7 on this" or something to that effect. What does that mean then? What is that 7 as a feeling and how does it work on a global scale to someone else's feeling. That's why I feel like using websites like Metacritic as measurement of something's quality is a backwards and regressive idea because you're accumulating the inconsistent, non-uniform thoughts of multiple people of multiple backgrounds and trying to represent them on an objective, global and uniform scale (where the source of this information is anything but that).
I had this pre-ordered and totally forgot. Now if I want that stupid key-chain I have to wait outside Gamestop for a few hours...
Guess I'll cancel with Gamestop and just get it from Amazon for cheaper.
You're comparing a copy paste job to a failed attempt at bringing back an old franchise as a new IP?
Have you not read/watched reviews of Yooka to understand what it tried to do and failed in terms of offering worlds to explore and challenges within those worlds?
Banjo was awesome back in the day
@jumpaction: I understand what you're saying but that's not stopping the trolls from writing this game off for a single 6 which is it's lowest score thus far. All I'm saying is that people need to be more open minded and also one site's review does not mean that it sucks and that's set in stone. I cross reference to show that a lot of people(reviewers and gamers) did like it. I get what you're saying but when you look at multiple reviews you get a chance to read up on the pros and cons of said product. People knew to stop being hyped for ME:A before it even came out thanks to reviewers and youtubers going all out on any and every mistake. I'm not saying it's the best way to know what you're getting into but it is one method that I do choose to make use of.

LOL this made me laugh more then it should XD
@valgaav_219: Too right. It applies both ways. Nobody should be writing a game off based on one dude's opinion - no not even opinion, one dude's score!
All the same, the validity of that information is better described in the words and then deciding whether those words resonate with you or whether that criticism is even nuanced or descriptive enough to be valuable.
There's more to be said with words than numbers in the realm of self-expression.
Wtf is this shit:
- Abrupt spikes in difficulty that could have been ironed out
God forbid games have non-linear bell curve difficulty put in through out ... everything I hate about reviewers and the modern mindset of "Gotta be able to feel like your brilliant, when your actually s*it" mentality.

lol exactly
banjo kazooie has a 92 on metacritic.
Eh, if you love these games, you know who you are, and don't need a good review to play it.
That being said, the game is sitting at 82 right now on metacritic. GS be lowballing.

It's called bad game design. The increase in difficulty happens when the player can reasonably be expected to be proficient at that skill. Otherwise, it's illogical and does not make for fun gameplay.
Ever wonder why Mario games have such great level design? They introduce players to an idea, get them to have a hang of it, then starts to ramp up the difficulty until the final test.
