@charizard1605: 1st, To be fair, the PS4 is kind of a flop in Japan. Much like the WiiU. I doubt it'll do much more than what the Vita has currently sold (so, slightly north of 6million units total for the PS4). Watch as the Switch easily sells 2 to 3 times (or more) as much as the PS4 did, in a much smaller amount of time :P Though that's a whole different debate better suited for other threads.
Character wars, in this particular instance are console wars dude. Crash was the face of PS1 and in some sense is still one of the faces of the brand as a whole. Mario was and is the face of Nintendo (arguably it's also one of the faces of Japan, period, given him showing up in the Olympic Games promotion for 2020). With Crash being revived, it's now more relevant than ever to make those sort of comparisons (even if the end results are always the same lol). A year ago or two? I would agree with you on this, however I feel this make sense right now. You can't really disassociate either from the platform in question.
If Sega somehow made a new console and Sonic somehow managed to get massive again, comparisons between them and Nintendo would also be natural, even though both IP's (Crash and Sonic) dropped in quality and stopped being exclusive, the contextual and cultural associations remain. And like I said before, it's not like anyone is confused about which series came out on top (with a ridiculous margin too).
Also, no one is stopping you from calling him out or even locking the thread, I'm just disputing said calling out, to a degree :P
