[QUOTE="lowe0"]NOOOOOO. If you don't mandate a single online system, you end up with a disjointed mess of 3 or 4 friends lists, separate voice apps, etc.. Look at how it is on the PC - do you really want that? I sure as hell don't.HuusAskingHow do you end up with 3 or 4 friends lists when there are really only one or two PC-oriented friend interfaces out there: Steam and Xfire?Steam, XFire, Gamespy Comrade, Live for Windows. And that's not including any game with its own in-game list (IIRC, BF2/2142).

IM almost certain nobody uses these...ESP GFWL that POS..Gamespy comrade is somthing nobody really cares about..fewer and fewer games are using Gamespy as there online service anymore..but other than that the only thing ive seen PC gamers use is XFire for non-steam games...such as Battlefield 2/2142..
the only 2 that really matter are Steam and Xfire for gaming..unless you have other things like MSN or AIM and such..but those arent for gaming...i find Steam and Xfire very organized..and i like how they all auto update there games.
Okay, I have no trouble going with that... however, you're still stuck with two different lists, and no way to guarantee that Lowe0 on Steam is the same as Lowe0 on XFire (I'm not on XFire, so don't hold that against my example). What we need is a unified identity standard, similar to OpenID, that ensures that you can block a player in a single game and never see them again, anywhere, and that you can find a player regardless of what software they choose to manage their friends with. Ideally, it would extend into consoles as well, such that you could link multiple services' accounts to a single identity.the only 2 that really matter are Steam and Xfire for gaming..unless you have other things like MSN or AIM and such..but those arent for gaming...i find Steam and Xfire very organized..and i like how they all auto update there games.

Without such a system, multiple friends list services only divide the community.
