I liked earthbound a lot more. Found some parts of chronos cross... oooohhhhh, chrnos cross, I was thinking chrono trigger. No, I havn't played it. If it's like chono trigger though, I think earthbound did a much ebtter job.kittykatz5k
Chrono Cross was the video game equivalent of a movie like Memento, or the Usual Suspects. It turns out it was too open ended, story was too thought provoking, gameplay too complex, the fact that you couldnt over level was too hard, the marketing wasnt existent etc...
Overrated imho. Especially here. I don't care for the collecto-a-thon character concept, which was done better by Suikoden any imo. They all but killed the tech system established in CT, what remained forced you to use worthless characters. And on that note my biggest complaint has to be the worthless character designs. I'm sorry but Poshul a pink dog, Funguy a man mushroom, Macha, Mojo the voodoo doll with a stick in him, NeoFio, Pip, Skelly, Starky, Turnip etc. have got to top the ranks in piss poor character designs. Hell most of those would fit better in a Pokemon game.
The Harle, Kidd, Serge, and Glenn were all i even gave a damn about.
Despite all the negativity I show towards it, I still enjoyed it. To me it was a let down after CT though.

In some ways yes, but after replaying both quite a few times Ive found more to like about Chrono Cross.

yes!! somone said just what i was thinking!!
Also Xenogears (Ps1) is better than your fav RPG anyday. I call it the "Big boy Rpg" because it actually has a real strong maturestory. (shocker huh)

Bah, then I definetly would have found it lamesauce. Complexeity to the point of annoyance is just plain wrong in an RPG, and why so many refuse to play the turn based genre.
does anyone else think crono cross was one of the greatest games made?Dipufresh
no, the game sucked it was no where near as good as chrono trigger, and was more on a level with the saga frontier games, it had hardly passing connections with chrono trigger which a sequal is supposed to have direct links and not passing comments *xenogears has more connections with chrono trigger with the one nerdy chick being the tutorial person* i liked chrono trigger much better.

Why would I be kidding anyone about this topic? I obviously take interest in the genre, so I wouldn't "kid" much about one of the sub-genres supposedly best titles.

Perosnaly, I always wanted serge to turn out to be janus. I think it would had made a much cooler plot that would have tied into CT a lot smoother.

No, I never played it. WhatI hate though is gameplay slowing down over the idea of having to add up 200 numbers just because the game is complexe. Combat shouldn't be that, and it's why so many RPGs think they're better off going into the action rpg genre, which is even more annoying.
Of course, I dunno if it's like that or not, but normally when extreme complexity is invovled, slowed down combat is soon to follow, and in TBRPGs, you can't sacrafice a second if you wanna keep your players intrested. Also that character design mentioend above does seem really lame, coming from a guy trying to think of creative cahracters for his own RPG.

Chrono Cross story > Xenogears
Wow thats a first bro. Chrono cross was like a day in the kiddy pool compared to Xenogears. As someone who has completed them both (and yes Ido like them both) I can say that The Xeno story is Far more developed than Cross could ever hope to be. And having many playable characters that really do not have strong connection to the story. Um thats called the "Suikoden effect" (True RPG gamers know what im talking about here lol)Thats where Chrono cross drops the ball bigtime in the story department.

I liked the way they went with it, Lynx was such an awesome character. Im happy that they didnt try to recreate Chrono Trigger, instead they used it as an excuse for what was happening. Sorry if i come off as a fanboy, well maybe its because I am since Chrono Cross is my favorite game of all time.

Its not a tactical game so much as an rpg with some challenge, and required thought. Try it out, its still in print for about $20 and even if you dont think its the best game of all time, few dont enjoy it (except those that say FFVII is the best JRPG of all time).
Firstly, Possible spoilers.
A good game? Yes
A worthy sequel to Chrono Trigger? No
For every great part of that game there was a equally annoying part. Cool battle system, but a complete dis-reguard for techs. Awesome amount of characters, but 85% of them were just stupid and you never cared about their backstory (or lack thereof). Neat story, but almost no refrences to Chrono Trigger at all (the only one I can remember is the computer called Prometheus). Intresting dimension travel idea, but it still burns me that there are only 2 dimensions (after playing CT I was expecting going to 4 or 5, each with it's own cool twist).

While all you rpg players are here, is it worth going out of my way to pick up persona 3? Or is just gonna be another game that I regret buying like Eternal Sonata (pukes).TerroRizing
I loved it. (I downloaded the x-box demo of Eternal Sonata and HATED it with a passion so I feel your pain there.)
Persona 3 was alot of fun IMO (any game where you get to off yourself for fun consistantly is good for me.) Its a meaty game but I do not recomend it if you are not a Persona fan (This is KEY to this game)

Ya, i think Ill like it. You havent seen anything in Eternal Sonata yet, it has a complete lack of any depth whatsoever. And characters that made Blue Dragon look like it had the best cast ever. I still get upset anytime someone praises Eternal Sonata and bashes Blue Dragon, atleast Blue Dragon was decent in the gameplay department.

Chrono Cross was not only a failure as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. But it was a failure as an RPG.The ridiculous storyline
*SPOILER* Schala magically fusing with lavos. Then asexually reproducing Kidd while fused with Lavos. And sending her back in time to be raised by Luca.
The extraordinarly shallow undeveloped characters. The characters aren't even well rounded. Chrono Cross has quite possibly one of the most shallow casts I have ever played in a JRPG.
The simplistic unchallenging noobified gameplay. Seriously if anyone died more than ten times in this game your either brand new to JRPGs or your a fool.
The game failed in gameplay, story, and characters. The games only pros were its excellent music and graphics.
I honestly don't understand how anyone can think this game is even close to being one of the best JRPGS ever created.

I have to agree %100 Chrono Cross is Overated beyond beleif. How o how anyone can put it in the same league or even the same sport as Xenogears in the story department has seriously had to have never beat Xenogears.
Xenogears Story was nothing short of stunning. I have never felt so moved by a cast of characters as I was with that game. Sex, Drug addiction, Canabalism, and A quest to find and Destroy god. Wow all I have to say is
STAND TALL AND SHAKE THE HEAVENS!! yeah not sure how Chrono Crosses chiche story and shallow cast can compare to that.

wel some of the main characters were very enjoyable like lynx and kid, it's just that it had alot of random useless characters that no one cared about. I guess it bothers some people but it didnt really bother me that much i just ignored them. I don't really share your opinion about characters moving great stories or w/e. But even if I did, the bad characters never really interfered with the main story that much so i dont see how this game doesnt have a great story backed with great characters.Overrated imho. I agree,I would rather have a few well crafted characters instead of 40 mass produced shallowcharacters.
I'd also like to add that both dimensions weren't as distinct as they should of been comparing to the 5 time periods CT had. Which probably was the biggest let down for me.
