hmm well after buying my pc, crysis and warhead, killzone 3, and NIER, I can't really buy anything else for a couple of months :P not that I need to though, I'll be on killzone 3 online for a long time lol

Crytek always had smart ai that never really worked properly, thus making them appear incredibly stupid. SAGE_OF_FIRE

This. Their AI routines are good, the problem is that some bugs and glitches interupt them degrading or even breaking it. The same happened with the original and to certain extent to Far Cry, once they got patched you could see them shine for the most part.

F.E.A.R. was such an early game in the gen, also. It kind of made me expect smart AI for the rest of the gen.

Interesting, I don't seem to remember any AI issues in AC2, but then I stopped playing attention to the game about a third of the way through it due to boredom.

My worst would probably go to KZ2's friendly AI. While the enemy AI was fantastic, your friendlies were a bunch of window lickers.

Disregarding bugs and glitches Crytek AI routines have always been good, but not that good.

When you make something complex, there is more to break. This is the case with the AI in Crysis, and likely the same in Crysis 2.

Although I dont see why sneaking up behind someone without them noticing constitutes bad AI, that sounds about right to me.

The AI in Crysis was very good, they organised themselves into squads, they found cover well, if you left them long enough they would sneak up on you. Obviously they did stupid things to, but name me a game where the AI has never done something silly.

what's your new gpu going to be? to *far* surpass the 460 you'll at least have to op for the gtx 580 or 6970 :P

IIRC the Marines' having great AI boiled down to a pretty simple a) if the player is looking in your direction, take cover b) if the player is looking away from you, advance also, they were able to soak up some punishment - and a big chunk of a game's AI appearing smart revolves around their being able to survive multiple shots for us to realize they're being smart :DMakari

This could apply to many more FPS. Many people tend to say that the AI in X game gets smarter in higher difficulties. But in fact they have the same AI, it's just that they can take more punishment or are more so the punishment gets distributed letting them show off more of their AI routines. It's an old trick.

Yeah. But there are also games were the AI performs routines that are above the average but the bugs and glitches make the "herps and derps" appear. Crysis is one of those games. The GRAW games on PC also had this problem.
