 that black guy at the end was shot in the head.....at some point in time How do they DO that???? why cant ALL Devs make games look that good?slvrraven9

That "black guy" is Prophet :x :P

Here's his model from Crysis 1.

The facial model seems the same, but the Nano Suit is of much higher quality in the Cryengine 3 video.

Umm....where the hell is the PC version.....?

Why is Crytek all of a sudden putting all emphasis on the consoles versions?

If they showed more of the PC version then all the consolites would be angry that it looks so much better

Its not that actually. Its that they want to SELL Cryengine 3,and then they show all those sweet stuff they can do on consoles,so showing of PC graphics on GDC makes no sense.

BTW,they didnt want to relieve anything about cosnoles or PC graphics on GDC,they just showed of their engine. When E3 comes some people will be Crytekowned :)

btw, cryengine 3 already :O ? dang, and i thought cryengine 2 was cutting edge and still is. I do remember that cryengine 3 is more optimized for console gaming but wow, crytek seems to be spending more time with engines than with games... and they seem like the only one using their engines too. where do they get all this money?

bionicle_lover

I hope other developers will start using CryEngine 3 for I am highly impressed with it so far. They best use it for TimeSplitters 4 as well.

Not impressed. The only thing separating the PC version is deffered lightning and face animations? Thanks Crytek.... And it doesn't even look more impressive than Crysis, the physics are a joke.

In regard to the graphics, I'm really not sure about the way it looks...

The lighting looks exaggerated and washed out, like holy **** bloom. I know there are clouds up there, but very few of the screenshots hint at them. Most of the time it is a blinding light that fills the sky. The lighting is lacking a specific feel CryEngine 2 had, I cannot put my finger on it; but it's not there.

The view distance looks horrible, even in the PC footage, there is this layer of smog that is not far from the character in almost every scene. That is going to have a significant impact on the scale of the game play, it looks like any other shooter now.

The nano suit looks rather flat, like they gave up some polygons in exchange for mapping, maybe it's just me.

The physics looked... different.

I really won't know for sure until they release a demo or something, but the game feels 'less' than its predecessor.

We know what Crytek can do with the PC, now they're trying to show off what they can do with the console. This is console footage, aside from the deferred lighting and facial animation scene. It never said anywhere that deferred lighting and facial animations are the only thing that separate the PC version from the console version. Why would the console version look as impressive as the original Crysis?

Some how I doubt that the console visuals are accuate what so ever to the final product.... Both consoles simply put do not have the kind of resources to render the kind of textures and lighting and a fullscale.. They are going to have to cut some corners, corners that will most likely be extremely noticable.. Eitherway these are more or less video bullshots..

First thing is that Crytek showed console version because that is developers conference, they are trying to sell engine and show that it works great.Second thing, deferred rendering is feature on consoles also, third console version could look near Crysis high.Crytek programmer confirmed it on beyond3d,he said that good use of assets, engine optimization and exposing consoles pros tehy very well may achieve something like high on Crysis PC.Only thing that really limited them was ram,and now in city that is pretty much problem no more(still is but not like in jungle).

Other then that PC will pretty much demolish console version with twice resolution, higher quality engine assets and such but to think that console version will look like weak is pretty much. And judging a Crysis 2 gfx from 1.5 min developers footage of pre alpha console footage is even more pathetic.

I remember last year when hermits used to say "Crysis can't be done on consoles even with low settings" lol, Just Cause 2 beats the crap out of Crysis when it comes to scale and it is still available on consoles, and yes I know Crysis isn't just about scale. I'm just sayin..

I think it is incredibly arrogant of console gamers to think they will get the equivalent of high, regardless of what Crytek have hyped. Some of them think so highly of the capabilities of their console; while so lowly of the ability of technological progress to surpass them.

Even on my system when using the PC equivilent of 720p, all high is not a walk through the park. To think 2005 console hardware can do it is ridiculous and boarders on the "magical powers of optimization" mentality.

Cell streaming  no matter how many times it is explained to console gamers; you always seem to conveniently forget.

I think you and alot of only-PC players are very arrogant and wrong.First thing this is not what Crytek hyped, its their programmer that posted that in tech forum.Im sure if it was PR hype they would laugh at that, but its not that. Now what im trying to say is this fixed hardware is not equivalent to PC in the same range.Carmack and Molyneux both stated that fixed hardware with good optimization will get you about 2x results of the same PC hardware range(even if i think its less). Its because its fixed,if you have to release game for zillion combination of hardware it will not take those specific platforms to limits.Hence UC2 looking the way it does, its just developers find a good way to work around fixed platform issue.Try to play something that looks like UC2 on pc with 7800gtx and 512 mb of ram and im sure you wont get 5 fps.Look i played GTA SA on my old PC,AMD 64 3500,1gb and 6600gt.It ran fine(30fps),on 720p 2x aa,but console like ps2 ran game with 32 mb of ram,gpu without vertex unit and 273 mhz cpu.It didnt look as good as my PC but it certainly looked fine for the systems power, and my computer was more then 50 times more powerful in raw power.See that is why you dont compare PC and console, that and fact that console hardware does not change with time.

Once again,PC is my favorite platform, and it will remain like that.Crysis 2 on consoles will NOT look nearly as good as ultra high on PC,but it will almost certainly be most impressive game on consoles, and it will look amazing.Crysis 2 will ultimately best on high end pc,nothing will compare, but to downplay what crytek is doing on consoles is pretty much ignorant.

Again with that stupid reply...im not saying about optimization.Crytek already said Crysis in that form(jungle) is impossible on consoles. That i know but city that is not open ended like jungle settings can be done, and its being done as we speak,if you dont like that i dont care. But you and i know that it will look amazing, yes even on consoles.

Oh I'm quite aware of what they have done to the game to make it run on consoles, that view distance is atrocious. Along with a few other things I've commented on.

I just think it is highly arrogant to suggest 2005 console hardware can compare with a SLI 8800GT system, with the rational being "optimization made it work". If that console footage we have just witnessed is anything to go by, I'd say it's a sure bet it doesn't compare with high settings.

No one said Crysis 2 won't be released on consoles. Crytek confirmed this before the game began production. Apparently 3 million units sold on PC weren't good enough for the hotshots.

We have known Crysis 2 would be coming to consoles before Warhead was released, Crytek made it quite clear they intended to go cross platform.

I'm not sure, the PC screenshots released in EDGE magazine seemed very Crysis like in the lighting scheme, with not much overuse in bloom. Could just be the result of offscreen footage. But yeh, patiently waiting for more, specifically the demo walkthrough the press got to see. I will say that the nanosuit 2's material seems a bit plasticy and dull compared to the original nanosuit and the CG renders in the first screenshots. Hope they change that.

GOW3, UC2 and KZ2 look mediocre compared to this footage, but this footage looks mediocre to Crysis 1 :x

The only thing thats bugging me is the way the rocks break and fall. It looks... fake. Almost like they're made out of paper mache. They seem weightless. Hopefully this is addressed in the final build. :)

CryTek is one of the best when it comes to game engines but good lord they need some new character designers. Guys in suits running around a city shooting other guys in suits. Yawn. I'm more interested in what other companies will do with the engine.

It looks really good, but for those hopeful few expecting Crysis on consoles i think they've more or less confirmed here that it definately isn't in the same league as Crysis 1 on the PC. Not even close.

If they showed more of the PC version then all the consolites would be angry that it looks so much better

I'm curious - if it were really so important as to make us angry with jealousy, wouldn't we just game on PCs instead?

Translation, the magical mystical powers of optimization will make it work "somehow".

 Their so magical that they can fit 1gb worth of data on component "system memory" with a 256mb limit.

Alot of consolers just dont understand what they have to do even make game on consoles even to run 30fps and barely make it to 720 on a system that has 2004 based Pc tech with only 512mb of video and system memory to play around with. Things that you lose are resolutions, texture detail, amount of objects, draw distances, size of levels of interactivity within the world/level/map. Every multiplatflorm shows the point of how their lack of memory plays a role. Done right on here on GS a Medium ranged Pc back in 2006( 1gb of ram and Geforce 6)out doing a console just because it has more memory on Prey a Doom 3 based engine from 2004. Optiminzation only goes so far with hardware you hit a wall not even Oz can get past. They have to use low ended textures with short draw distances, having guns take up 1/3rd of screen so they can save memory, And dont forget the Godly rays of light to cover up the bad draw distances and other flaws too. Just alot of tricks and hype to coverup the limts of the platform.

Lol, how can unified shaders be 2006 tech when the console(360) was designed in 2004 and was released in 2005? And is based off the ATI R500's chipset which were released the same year as the 360.

Well, then I was wrong, but the X360>04 tech and 05 tech(unless the xtx1950xtx came out in that time frame)

The ATI cards using R500's were the X1300's- X1900's release dates ranging from 2005-2006 all having unified shaders , then the R600's came out Ie HD 2000's 2006-2007, Also the 360 cant be better then the best 2004 based tech when it was designed from.

Why not? The X360 was very advanced when it just came out. Just like the cryengine 2(except cryengine 2 is still more advanced than the competition).

Because its like taking a 8600GTS and saying its able to be faster then a 8800GTX it cant. The 360 when it came out was ahead of the average tech curve of the time only in certain areas like gpu and cpu. Which the gpu is like a X1900 cant be more then what it is.then by 2006 it was totally outclassed by the geforce 8's and dual core cpu's. Transistor counts = processing power "speed" the 360 gpu has around 240 million while a 8800GTX has over 750 million which is over 3x faster let alone it having 3x the video memory of the consoles.

Did I ever say that the X360 outclassed the 8800, note that I did not say all tech in 06. The card itself has the same memory as the consoles. Also obviously a 8600 cannot beat a 8800, if the same devs are working and optimising them one vs. one. If it were different devs and one was more talented(the one with the 8600), I could see the 8600 giving the 8800 a run for its money.
