Yep, Hans Zimmer's a magic man. Crysis 2's soundtrack is great, but I'd argue that Mass Effect and Journey have the best soundtracks this gen.

Hate all you want, but the music in Mass Effect 3 was magnificent.

XVision84

ME1 was better thanks to not being on PlayStation.

Oh really? Is that why Mass Effect 2 scored higher than Mass Effect 1? :P

Didn't you get the memo? All cows have gaming pc's :P.

Bastion's amazing, nearly completed it on my PC, where indie gaming is at its finest.

I like to think of PlayStation as the road in between indie gaming heaven PC, and indie graveyard Micro$oft.

Best on 720pbox360? No thanks, I'm not that into 720p 30fps.

I'd rather stick with my 1080p/60fps Bastion with AA :]

And let's not forget, when you buy Bastion on XBL you're giving your money to a greedy corporation that uses cruel slavery to produce their hardware products.

If you buy Bastion on PC as part of the Humble Bundle, you're giving your money to kind and trustworthy citizens of the internet who helped provide you with this wonderful experience.

Choose wisely.

Listened to it some more, it's really good.

And sadly no, I haven't played Mass Effect 1. I wish I had, but I got Mass Effect 2/3 on PS3.

I can still get the entire trilogy for PC though.

If they're designed to be unnoticed, then why does everybody notice them? They're meant to go with the game, but that doesn't mean they're second rate. Music is extremely important to me in both movies and games, they help portray emotion. This in particular is especially powerful to me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x56hOUDWx9M

Mass Effect 2 and 3 were enough for me to love the series and get invested in the characters.

I love this soundtrack though, I agree Mass Effect 1's OST is a lot more "living" than the others. 2 and 3 are mainly focused on action while this is more based off of the game world.

Yeah, it's my favorite after the credits.

My advice is that you play it no matter what.

Mass Effect 1 simply has the best world, the best campaign missions, the best writing, the most RPG of the three.

It honestly has the most sci fi feel as well.

I guess movie and game soundtracks are more of an emotional matter, arguing is useless at this point... For example the songs that you have posted mean nothing to me and sound bland because I haven't played mass effect (nor do I want to lol), and I'm guessing you haven't played Journey which will also make that soundtrack excellent instead of perfect. :P

For example I love this :phttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XOV2L-eM38

And I'm sure it will sound boring to you. :/

When normal songs, not associated to any other medium can be appreciated for what they really are, pure music.

Though it baffles me why people actually enjoy the Crysis 2 soundtrack, not only is it bland, but since it is a shooter without emotional value there are no associations :?

And I have played it mind you, I played it a lot at the time, and yet I hated the music.

Zimmer is a musical genius, but crysis wasn't his best. I would have to go with arkham city, arundel and fish did an incredible job on that. The uncharted series has always had a good soundtrack too, really immersive

Boring? GOD NO, that soundtrack is fantastic.

I love Princess Mononoke, downloaded it sometime ago and enjoyed the hell out of it. It's a beautiful movie, though I didn't enjoy some of the other movies by Studio Ghibli.

It has this unique sense about it, it's nothing extraordinary, it just sounds good IMO.

I haven't played Crysis 2 either, the game just seemed too bland and didn't interest me.

I don't need to experience a movie or game in order to enjoy the music, I have a real attachment to music. For example, I haven't played Journey yet (waiting on the retail release), but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the sincerity of the music. That combined with the games environment feels just right.

Yes there are a few more.. err family friendly ones if you will. They seem a bit out of place, apparently those are the types of movies that they want to do, in fact princess mononoke was sort of just a good bye to the action genre for them.

I like to be tuned in to the environmental sounds especially with FPS games and flight sims. The last soundtrack I listened to in-game was Hell March in Red Alert long ago.

That's fine in simulation type games but in more cinematic games you might as well play the game with a blank screen :|
