Crysis has been dethroned

Each car in GT5 will have roughly 400,000-450,000 polies. Each car in Forza 3 will have roughly 300,000-350,000 polies.

Crysis' main character model has 2,000,000. :|

Foliage, faces, and dynamic worlds are far more difficult to render than cars on a track. The vast majority of people won't notice the dozens of minor rendering problems in the screenshots. A car is simply not a difficult object to make look close to what we expect. On the other hand, look at the people in the background of some of those screenshots. Do the ones that move look realistic? No. IF the backdrops you see in the game were replaced with a 3D world - something you could drive off into and explore, would they look as good? No. That's where the difference lies - and why Crysis is the superior achievement. subrosian

The lighting engine and the reflections on the car model in real time likewise are no joke, and furthermore this game has to run at a smooth 60 frames per second.
"Cars on a track" is obviously a gross oversimplification.

Regardless, obviously the coding for the game engine for Crysis was a totally monumental achievement. Their physics engine, editing tools, and the dynamic environments/lighting are indeed totally incredible and probably superior achievements over what PD had to do with Gran Turismo. But I think it's kind of out of line to downplay the significance of this game's visuals as an achievement.

And it's also worthwhile to note that Cryengine 3.0 ported most of the things you're referring to as being out of the realm of consoles' capabilities....a dynamic world, facial structures and human complex animations (although Uncharted 2 I think holds the crown for consoles in that regard), destructible terrain, foilage, wind models, etc. The problem with Crysis 2 on consoles is basically that it's running in a low resolution with poor performance, low resulution textures....perhaps a more aggressive dynamic LoD and so on. I think, personally, that texture resolutions, display resolutions, perhaps geometry complexity, etc is the stuff that's going to separate PCs from consoles rather than what consoles can do. Look at the Playstation 3 and the sheer quantity of separate parallel processing units developers have to work with for offloading physics, ambient sound, animations, or whatever, for. But if you look at the sheer magnitude of difference separating the quantity of shaders in the RSX versus a GTX 260 or a 4870 and the difference in RAM (dedicated VRAM and SRAM) in your average PC versus your average console and you'll see a much greater disparity there.

2) Hes not arguing about whats better, pc vs consoles.

3) hes arguing about what graphics are better, crysis vs gt5.

4) I think the TC knows that pcs are upgradeable every year.

Maybe some of the actual racing parts are in-game engine running this but the begining of the game is CGI...

Not directing this to you Solid, But GT has always used CGI in one part or another (intro ect..ect) in their games... To pretend you don't know this is pretty sad...

No in-game footage here, sadly, but still, it's a treat for the eyes. The day when pre-rendered sequences in racing games become indistinguishable from actual footage is drawing very, very near.

Why is it that every time a game with good graphics comes out or is announced, someone makes a thread about how it will look better than Crysis. Heres what everyone should know: No game on PS3 or 360 will ever look as good as Crysis. Its just not possible.
