I'm buying crysis.
And I plan on enjoying every bit of it.
but how...pray tell...how will it revolutionize the FPS genre?
It's an honest question.
I just watched on the spot and it is by far the best game i ever seen, the gameplay is there , the phyhics are beautiful, rreplay value looks high, way better then that generic FPS, this game is a big contender for GOTY, i dont like hermits for their cockiness but i`m really thinking on investing a pc,where should i start off?TheJuiceyBar
I don't think it's going to revolutionize the genre, I do think it's going to set a new standard, but they aren't the same thing.

My thoughts exactly. It isn't really revolutionary, but it brings in so many nice elements, puts them all together really well, and looks darn purdy. I've played through the demo a half dozen times now and it is just so fun. I think other FPS really have the work cut out for them measuring up to this standard (barring something monsterously wrong in the final release which so far there is no hints of).
[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]What does Crysis do that no other game has?whocares9
It does everything the best and at the same time doesn't hold your hand while doing it.
Its not the only one to do that. If its going to revolutionize FPS games, I need some other thing it does besides that.
dont quit your job kid, takt those 2 cents back TEH funnay is missing.I don't think that it will revolutionize gaming in the same way as Uncharted, but it will probably be pretty good.
Just throwing in my 2 cents! LOL!

When was the last time the enviornment was completely destructable? I can completely destroy a building by driving a jeep straight through it. This game has great physics, other games mimic great physics. We will see in time what changes will be brought in by this, but as soon as the next game has a tree you can shoot down we all know it is from Crysis and that it revolutionized that game already. Other shooters after this game feel plain and boring, even the all might halo 3 seems like a joke now. I can't tell the future of gaming so I don't know what tomorrow brings, it could be revolutionary or not...but it for sure is the best shooter ever made period all hands down so far and that is coming from a huge half life 2 fanatic.
You can shoot down and run over trees in other games. Mercenaries comes to mind. Big frigging whoop.
JiveT
What the hell are you talking about? I have plaid mercenries and it is nothing in physics when it comes to even trees. Trees here can be shot at any interval, you can keep shooting of chunks off it away and than pick it up and bash peoples skulls in with it. Pieces, objects, and trees can block roads, infact you can't run over trees in crysis unless it is small. You will ram it. You are a fake boy anyways that has never played the game as your other posts point out, no point of mentioning this even.

What does it mean to revolutionize? It means to effect the same genre in such a way that all games following will most likely have this "revolutionary" feature. I can easily say that if I play another shooter after crysis and a tree doesn't fall when I shoot it I am going to be mighty freaking pissed. I am already starting to hate all other shooter I have previously liked. It has dethroned half life 2 for me. whocares9
So when you shoot the trees in Crysis that don't fall (all but Palm trees).. do you get pissed? Or when you shoot the TAC (nuke gun), and half the trees are still there, and them tin fences? The whole "destructible enviroments" was the most disappointing thing in the demo for me. I was under the impression it would be closer to everything.. instead its just sheds and palm trees.
Anyhow Crysis doesn't revolutionize anything, it just is a very enjoyable, well made shooter.
(With awesome graphics.. and a really good map editor)
There's no way to tell until later on. If we start seeing more and more shooters with open-ended gameplay and free-roaming, as opposed to more linear, corridor shooters, I think you could actually make the argument that Crysis was revolutionary. Even though Operation Flashpoint basically had the free-roaming concept years ago, it didn't really spark some big change in the FPS industry, and neither did Far Cry. We still saw and see plenty of corridor shooters with linear gameplay.
Not to mention OP and FC had nowhere near the open-ended gameplay of Crysis, in terms of what you're able to do. If Crysis does spark a change in how shooters are made and we suddenly start seeing a lot less corridor/linear shooters, then well, I think it should be seen as revolutionary in the shooter biz. Unless you want to call it a technological coincidence. And since none of us have a working crystal ball, it's impossible to know yet.
LOL @ TC!

I never said I did play it. You were the one who kept raving about the tree destruction. Thanks for elaborating. And HTF am I a fakeboy? You don't even know how to use the term. Trees can be shot at any interval? I guess English isn't your first language.

The beta doesn't have the destructable enviornments and the larger trees do not break..for obvious reason. all other trees do break and break exactly at the spot you shoot them. That is my point isn't it. It doesn't piss me off when I shoot a tree in a game and it doesn't fall...but once I get a taste of it and play a game that lets me like Crysis now that is called revolutionizing because now I don't want anything less than these physic. No one claims them to be perfect. I didn't say perfect.

They can be shot at any interval. Interval space between one point and another. Why are you commenting and saying it is not revolutionary when you have never even tried it? that doesn't make any sense at all.

Oh wow so any place you shoot them on the tree it will break off at that point? Or is the tree broken into arbitrary break points?!? That is pretty cool. I never said it wasn't revolutionary I said running over trees or shooting them down has been done before. I'd like to try it out someday but I don't know anyone who has a computer that could play it. All my friends and I use a laptop or an old desktop.

Yes. For the most part.
It doesn't let you keep breaking the tree up into really small parts for some reason..

Grapphics just to name one thing...but beyond that, its a little blurry for me. Physics? A.I.? Even if its not "revolutionary" by definition, it'll still be an awesome game.I'm buying crysis.

Black? Red Faction? I think those had some fairly heavily destructable environments, no?
this game isn't revolutionary. It's evolutionary. More along the lines of what I think we all expected "NextGen" to be.
look...guys....the game is not "revolutionary". It doesnt' fit the basic definition.
the game is "evolutionary"...and a very impressive evolutionary step it is.
Now, keep the party going.
It will definately be the best FPS ever.XenoNinjaIt'll have to prove it's better than UT3, because that's the game I'm waiting on.

You can only possibly tell if a game, or anything else, is revolutionary by looking back in hindsight. That's why this thread is ridiculous, not the idea that Crysis is revolutionary. The basic definition states that a revolution brings about change. Well how can you argue it either way, when the game isn't even out yet?

Yea, I see your point. I do think the enviornments of red faction sucked though. I will just leave it here. For all we know gaming could change to virtual reality on Nov. 14th and we would be all owned. I do think that Crysis will push the envelope(as they say) of gaming. It will force better hardware to come out, it will force the next gen consoles to come quicker, and it will force other developers to think more about their next first person shooter product.
If you want to get a PC that will run Crysis @ High settings then you should probably get the 8800gt which has an amazing price/performance ratio, or wait for the HD 3800 (which will be similar to the 8800gt in price/performance) but it will come with DX 10.1 and SM 4.1, making it future proof. Also get at least a 2.4 ghz core 2 dou processor and 2g of ram. I for one will upgrade to the HD 3800.
