@hardwenzen: Nintendo has more choice when you don't put up weird barriers like "too many colors" or "too cute". But yeah, you're not gonna play GTA on Nintendo systems, and stuff like Apex, Witcher, Doom or whatever is fucking crap on Nintendo hardware. There's really no good reason to get any 3rd party games for Nintendo systems if you have other systems, unless handheld is a huge deal to you. 3rd party games are almost always the worst but still most expensive on Nintendo systems.

Its not only about third party. All third party support would be a requirement for me to buy the system, but i also want first party like Perfect Dark, 007, Conker, Metroid, etc. These do not exist. There are no artificial barriers, these games are simply not a thing, and clearly not a priority since the GC days.

Yeah, I've been saying I want a GameCube 2 forever now myself. It's when Nintendo was at its best. We had graphics, 3rd party, great controls, original games that tried new shit and did it well, but was later abandonded, because people didn't understand it was good for some fucked up reason. But hey, put a waggle controller on it and dumb the gameplay down and see sales skyrocket (Wii).

People wanted crap instead of good shit from Nintendo, so they adapted.

They have an uphill battle.

I don’t see it that way.

Most of the success of the switch came from Nintendo consolidating their console and handheld fanbase with the platform. All they need to do is make a more capable switch (not even on the levels of ps5/xsx, but somewhere near the capabilities of the steam deck), and they’ll have a hit, especially with their exclusive line up.

Again from my perspective.✌️

Considering Switch is the fastest selling console ever(+ no price cuts), Nintendo really has to **** it up badly if it's not gonna be a smashing success

I think it will be a hit, but also have the same issues most Nintendo consoles have had in the past. People will buy it for the Nintendo 1st party titles, but the 3rd party games will be the inferior version, and most likely release later than the other Consoles at a higher price point to compensate for a separate development team to port it to a more expensive media device (cartridges).

I also think the portability selling point won't factor in as much this time since we now have multiple handhelds on the market that didn't exsist when the Switch first came on the market.

I think it will do fine, but probably not as well as the original switch.

I feel like Nintendo might play it too safe, basically just a more powerful switch. Which I would be fine with, but I'm not sure if it will get other people to jump over from the original.

But Im sure the new switch will have SOME type of new gimmick to help sell it. Maybe something with AR/VR?

@SolidGame_basic: I'd say Steam Deck level of power is a best-case senario for Switch 2. Nintendo will want the system smaller, and with better battery life. Could be weaker when all is said and done.

That said, DLSS could give it a boost in some games.

It will be called the Nintendo Mirror. Will no longer need a dock, but can buy an extra standalone device to improve the graphics. Will also be able to Dual Screen.

That would be a terrible name.

@Litchie: At present I would only try 2 Nintendo games. First is Zelda as I played and enjoyed to 2 on the N64, and Xenonblade Chronicles.

I will say that with the last 2 Zelda's I'm not a fan of the graphical style of the games.

@last_lap: Not worth it for two games.

Yeah, I'm not in love with the graphics either, but it looks good for the shit hardware it's on. Would've preferred if they doubled down on the cel shading, personally. Wind Waker still looks awesome, and it would've not only made the game look better (to me), it would probably run better too. But I guess you prefer the OoT look.

Those saying that they might not go portable is kinda ridiculous. Portability is the only reason why they were sucessful this generation, and its pretty clear that those who want portable systems, they ain't tired of owning one, so all you gotta do is release a new system that is 30% stronger than the stwitch, call it switch 2, and the job here is done for the next 7-8 years.

This.

One of the big reasons why the Wii U failed is because the marketing was shit. I remember how people thought it was just a controller add-on to the Wii and not a completely new system.

Whatever the Switch successor will be they need to make sure it's distinguishable and marketed clearly as the successor to the Switch.

This one really needs to be an upgrade in a lot of areas, and backwards compatible among other quality of life things will be big determination factors as well.

If they make a Switch successor it would still do well since Nintendo is still the king of portable console gaming. They better make sure that they don't pull a Wii-U on their future console.

Yea. I also don’t remember the Wii U having a really big launch title. Switch had Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey in the same year! Granted, Odyssey wasn’t the Mario 64 successor we hoped, but it was still a big hit.

Its not that I prefer the OoT or MM graphics as such, its just the style of the newer ones put me off the game. I'm no graphics whore, so it doesn't need to be best in show or anything like that. I just feel with the newer games they're foggy/blurry, and the characters graphics don't match those of the world around them, its just very jarring everytime I see it.

What I will do is buy a Switch a couple of years after the next Nintendo console is out on the cheap and try them out for myself. But right now i'm not compelled to buy a Switch for Nintendo first party as I feel its too Samey.

My thoughts exactly. Judging by history, a Nintendo success must always be followed by a Nintendo flop. The only time Nintendo kind of broke that rule was with the SNES. While it wasn't as successful as the NES, it did give the mighty Sega Genesis a good run for its money.

Never understood why some of yall rely so much of what has happened decades ago. One successful system and one failed attempt is not set in stone. The Switch 2 will be a portable system, so it has no chance of failing, and this "history" will be broken.

I highly doubt their next system will be a second version of the Switch. The last time Nintendo tried this no one bought it (WiiU)

Switch got a Zelda, Mario Kart, and 3D Mario game in its first year. Surely Nintendo understands now it needs some big games in the launch lineup and window?

I'm predicting Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Kart 9 are launch games with a 3D Mario game out within a year of release, so I'd say yes it'll be a hit.

WiiU sounds like an expansion pack. If they called it Wii 2, they wouldn't have had as much issues as they did. There is nothing wrong with calling the next Switch a Switch 2.

@TheEroica: I haven't been playing my steam deck all that much recently. I've been playing my switch though. Just going through metroid dread, which I almost beat, then go back to Xbox. The deck is great but I'm mostly just using it to stream gamepass games. It missed the mark by a bit but i don't blame valve. Nintendo has been dominating the handheld space so long, they are almost untouchable. Nintendo focuses purely on what makes a handheld great: it's games, it's portability, form factor, design and battery life. Valve hit 1 out of 4, possibly 2. The other 2 missed the mark.

@hardwenzen: yes, switch is terrific. Got way more games than ps5. All Nintendo needs to do is keep backward compatibility, build better hardware, and maybe throw in a gimmick. Switch 2 will sell like hotcakes guaranteed.

Games that the system can't even run at acceptable performance.

As long as it stays hybrid and no home console counterparts (ex. Wii and DS). Pokémon, Mario/Kart, Zelda will always sell. As a parent of multiple kids, you can't have just one handheld, so families will buy multiple unlike home consoles (I have 3 switches)

@hardwenzen: meh, graphics don't really matter all that much. It doesn't really improve the gaming experience beyond a certain point. Someone who plays ps3 looking games like elden ring should understand that. That's why Nintendo is selling turd like consoles with 17 year old tech in 2023 yet still selling like hotcakes. I bet seeing Nintendo rake in that dough$$$ just grinds your gears.

Lets talk about visuals, and ignore something that is way more important, the performance. Your games run at 3fps. Its an unplayable mess. You have no visuals, no frames, no online infrastructure and you don't even have a damn ssd, so your loadings are as slow as they were 25 years ago🤷‍♂️Its simply pathetic.

Agreed. Yes it does go against Nintendo naming conventions lol, but they don’t need to be stuck to the past.
