Id never go by Mario Kart - always a group favourite. Never was into Crash, and having to get a multitap for 4 player split screen was absolutely ridiculous.

What kind of Kool-Aid are you guys drinking? MK64 was one of the best party games for the N64. How old are you guys? There has to be something going on here. There is no way more than a couple people think CTR was better. No way!GoldenElementXL

Crash Team Racing vs Mario Kart 64 I always liked Crash Team Racing better (Probably because I grew up with the earlier parts of the Crash Bandicoot series) It seemed a lot faster and had a tighter control scheme... *Reminisces about when a good game wasn't necessarily a shooter*fluxorator

Both were good, but I have to go with CTR. I had both, but MK64 was a step back from the SNES greatness, and CTR was Naughty Dog's last PSOne game, and they went out with a bang.

CTR was better than Mario Kart 64, but overall the Mario Kart games were better than the Crash Bandicoot racing games.

That's not to say Mario Kart 64 wasn't a good game...

This isn't even close.

Super Mario Kart > CTR

Let alone Mario Kart 64.

CTR's track design (Cortex Castle made Bowser Castle 64 a chore to play), single player design (Diddy Kong like adventure) visuals, A.I, music and depth (CTR had this jump mechanic - higher elevation = higher boost upon landing) > Mario Kart 64's .

Mario gets kudos for nostalgia, but other than that it's pretty one sided.

EDIT: In fact, CTR had better A.I than Mario Kart Wii :?

MK64 did not.

The handling on CTR was better than MK64 where it feels like youre playing on lag.

And I liked the weapon selection on CTR better

And the characters

And the maps

CTR was the better game overall, imo. Except the fact of the multitap thing that people mentioned here already.

Let's put it this way, I'm 28, and have been gaming since the Atari days back when I was a small kid. I would choose CTR over MK64 any day. While both were great games, MK64 was too shallow and cheap. There were such few play modes in MK64 which made the game super-boring unless you had a few friends sitting next to you. Where as CTR had so much more depth and boss-race battles, and things to unlock. Gameplay itself was pretty equal in both games, but MK64 was so cheap. You could be so far ahead of your opponent, and within a matter of seconds they'd pass you. CTR for the win!!!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention...... Super Mario Kart (SNES) is the best cart racer of all time. It didn't have the depth of CTR, but the gameplay was outstanding.

Crash Team Racing for sure.

That game brings back so many memories.

I downloaded it off the Playstation Store a little while ago, haven't had the chance to play it again yet though.

CTR for me, i plugged so much time into that game, loved everything about it. Was it actually possible to unlock Nitrous Oxide in the end? I never did it.

Anyway, ive bought all four Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot PSone games from the store now, and im lovingly playing through them all again. Crash 3 and CTR on the PSP look stunning.

I don't believe it was possible to unlock Nitrous. You can unlock other characters like Fake Crash, Penta Penguin, N. Trophy, etc. though.

I dont like how it controls, specially the turning, the multiplayer in Mario Kart 64 is just insane, and of course the N64 allows 4 players out of the box. Mario Kart Battle mode was like cocaine back in the day.

Other complaints are the characters, dont like them, and the music, these two may be minor things but they have weight in my opinion.

Also, i never said CTR was bad, just that it was a clone.
