Current gen FAIL!!

I hear a lot of talk about next gen consoles coming. Apparently, XBOX360 and PS3 are in the downslide, acording to many. To me they never hit peak, or if they did I didn't notice. If current gen consoles are past their peak that's bad news, because so far they have done close to nothing grounbreaking. Even worse, current gen has been plagued by poor development, low review scoring, lack of innovation, bugs and glitches and other undesirable elements.

And yet worse, current gen has seen some of the best past gen games and high potential IPs get turned into rubbish. As a matter of fact, too many past gen games are considered "BETTER" than their current gen sequels. Examples of this trend are: MERCENARIES, a gemstone of past gen, vs MERCENARIES 2, a horrible example of current gen failure, GTA san andreas, a masterpiece, vs GTA 4, a huge backstep that can't touch GTA SA.

More examples of Past gen glory vs Current gen failure: ACE COMBAT 4 is still the best in the series, TOMB RAIDER dissappeared, FINAL FANTASY dissappeared, SOCOM turned into trash, RESIDENT EVIL turned into trash, Etc..., and I can just go on with the list. All has been replaced by pretty graphics, but all we get are games full of bugs, shorter experiences, cinematic, scripted events, timed rubbish with non challenging or immerssive gameplay.

I just hate how current gen has turned gaming into a DLC and Multyplayer fest. When I have to say that the best gaming experiences I have played, mostly were in the PS2 and XBOX gen, that speaks volumes about how poor current gen has performed. I really have to say that if current gen is coming to an end, and what I have seen so far is the best it offers, then I won't hesitate to call it a failure, and name past generation consoles superior.

Just improving graphics is not enough to be called superior, it's the games that make a console gen what it is, and considering hardware limitations, PS2 and XBOX gen did a lot more with a lot less. If developers couldn't simply handle current gen power and ended up delivering sub-par products, I can't imagine how bad and poor will games for the next genertion of consoles will be.

Another whiny b!tchy gamer. I mean seriosuly last gen was awesome with the PS2 and GC. A lot of classics, but this gen with the 360 and at a time the Wii, I've enjoyed it just as much, if not more. Sure DLC and yearly releases is a bad trend, but it doesn't ruin anything. I just don't see how you couldn't like this gen honestly. But most gamers are known to be whiny hipsters.. so...

I'd say this gen has been about as good as last gen. Some series have gone downhill, but there's been some great new ones to make up for it, and some are better than ever.

I'm in my early 30's so have witnessed alot of change over my 20+ years of gaming.

The current gen has just been a complete rehash of last gen's gameplay with HD graphics. Motion controls have been a completer disaster. The only thing I have absolutely loved about this console gen has been multiplayer (and DLC is nice sometimes).

I blame it mostly on skyrocketing game development costs and the used game market (piracy on the PC). If the major devs don't make any money they'll be too afraid too stray from what works.

Next gen may be my last.

I have to agree, this gen has been lacking that special something since it began and i just havent enjoyed it anywhere near as much as the last one. Granted there have been some good games but overall ive been very uninterested and dare i say it, a little bored with things.

I cant wait for the next gen personally to inject something new, things feel like they've been stagnatin for far too long and i want something new.

I wouldn't consider Tomb Raider disappearing when there was Legend, Anniversary, Underworld, plus Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Then there's that upcoming game about Lara Croft during her younger years.

Game-wise I've enjoyed this gen, and would be happy to see it stretch another 2 years. Of course I could do without all the wallet snatchin' that's been introduced, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Mostly I think it will push more people to PC gaming, but eventually that will probably get taxed too.getyeryayasout

I agree with TC. This gen has been sickening.

I never thought about it before, but you're right when you say this generation never hit its peak.

All this generation did was improve graphics and introduce the gimmick of motion control. And the gimmick of 3D gaming.

The most groundbreaking thing was the inclusion of online multiplayer. Which isn't even that special. It's been around since the Dreamcast, the only difference is that this generation it was made more efficient. (Although that's kinda hard for me to say considering my PS3 and 360 can't stay connected to the internet for 5 minutes without getting an "unknown error" that disconnects me.)

There's no more creativity this generation. The market is filled to the brim with generic shooter after generic shooter. (CoD or Gears of War clones.)

Where are all the good JRPGs, platformers and fighters?

Sure we've got Tales of Graces f, LittleBigPlanet and Persona 4 Arena, but that's not enough! These titles will soon be forgotten about by the mainstream media because they're not Halo or Call of Duty.

The gaming industry was at its peak last generation. Because of the direction the industry has been going in, once this generation ends, I won't be supporting it anymore.

Game companies are making too many bad decisions with things such as online passes, disc-locked content and day one DLC. They're shooting themselves in the foot. It's actually kinda funny, but sad at the same time. ($5 for a recolored character model!? That's how you know gaming is going down the toilet.)

This gen should have ended 2 years ago. They just need to release the new consoles now.

I kinda hope this generation ends soon so I can stop supporting these developers and publishers.

This generation does have some gems, but they're so few that I know the next generation will have almost none.

Once this generation ends, I finally won't have to worry about keeping up and I can just concentrate on beating my retro games.

I agree this gen has sucked ass for series turning to crap :( sad that the only good final fantasy game this gen will b a remake of FFX

I agree with you to an extent.

Gaming used to be exciting but now it seems all they (the devs) are going for are better graphics while forgetting on what matters most - gameplay.

I don't care for pretty graphics if the gameplay isn't great.

That's why I tend to enjoy some old games more than newer ones - because they were more focused on gameplay than graphics (of course there were also exceptions).

Still, there are always exceptions to the rule.

I just think that one will have to look past the high-budget, "AAA" games to find innovative and gameplay-focused experiences in the future.

i'd just like to point out that how has game piracy hurt anything truly and when has used games hurt people, we've been doing it for years and years and years, i'm sorry but if your 30 you must remember like i do the old amiga 500 and the commadore64, these games were on floppy disc's and other console games came out on tape, these were copied so much that my whole collection were copied i had lots of new games but most of them were copies, even when ps1 came out i had so many copies it was untrue, it was all the range, and yet the business thrived on and become massive.

what i don't get is there problem with used games, seriously, it's our right if we'd like to sell our property it isn't there's anymore we bought it, look at used cars the market is massive i don't buy brand new cars, i buy second hand, far cheaper, and still as good, the one thing i believe they should charge people for is if they go on the multiplayer on the game if it is used, them servers need money to keep running but i really hate there gread because there jealous that other people are making money, but one thing is certain someone must of bought the game in the first place and if they sell it that means that person doesn't have it any more they cannot argue and i believe there gready and want to sell the game 4times over and take the money, the second hand market keeps people in business it doesn't hurt them much, they should cut the staff which they don't truly need every single one of them.

on topic i think this gen has been good, not as fun as last gen but i more of a carry on sort of style, i do feel that last gen had a better selection of genres and this gen has gone more fps and action/adventure and only a minor lot of other genres.

Ive enjoyed it. People should stop crying so much. There has been many great games this gen as well as superb steps forward in the online services.
