I think it's clearly MS Flight Simulator.
It's just so lifelike and so much bigger in scope than the competition.

R&C or Demon's Souls.
Rinky dinky in size and scope. I don't even consider them as impressive as the PC version of Red Dead.
Agree. Flight Sim looks incredible. Are there people in it? If so, how do they look?
It's far easier to create non-living things in a game. Then, how close can you get to trees to judge how they look at a close range or do you fly by so fast and so high that it's difficult to tell?
Right now, Naughty Dog is king of making humans look good. That will change with UE5 though so I'm really looking forward to a couple years from now.
Ratchet and Clank. You really have to play it to see why. Flight Simulator is just Google Maps. Really nothing interesting about it.

Agree nothing has come close everything else is diminishing returns.
At this point, where graphical improvement has become incremental rather than generational, graphical quality has become more about the little details than any big differences. This in turn makes graphics an increasingly subjective measure, shaped by individual personal tastes, and the process of making a game "look good" has become more art than engineering.
Therefore, I feel the question of which game looks the best is becoming less relevant by the day.
PC: Microsoft Flight Simulator
VR: Half-Life: Alyx
Console: Ratchet & Clank but soon to be Forza Horizon 5
Honestly in my opinion Flight Simulator doesn't count, and that's not me being a hater, that's the gamer in me feeling as though since you can't interact with anything and a lot of it is actual landscape and not even graphics at all isn't as impressive. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's badass and shows what we can look forward to in the near future, but I just don't feel like it's the same as an art medium used in classic video games. Also on that note... I'm not really sure what the graphics king is, nor do I really care. We are at (or nearing) the point now where graphics are approaching photo realism in many aspects and they aren't going to keep evolving at the rate they have outside of moving assets and a feeling of actual sentiency, amazing AI, and unbelievable procedural generation beyond what we can even fathom.
Working on self learning AI is a major priority of several large tech companies and could easily and most fathomably be added in gaming as the most prevalent industry. Once they get to the point that games can actually start adding meaningful scenarios and random quests with actual in game characters things are going to get crazy. Now adding voiced dialogue is another story, but if they used animal sounds, made up foreign languages, or even use voice actors things could get to mind blowing proportions. I question whether or not this will ever be a reality though because it could essentially add a never ending amount of content to a single game, so they would have to make a game like that a service game that you would probably need to pay monthly for.
The crazy thing to imagine is that games will look BETTER than real life before we know it.. lol. It's hard to believe but true. They can remove blemishes, imperfections, add better lighting (that wouldn't be there in real life), and make things as high end as the mind can possible imagine. It's not here yet, but looking at the top few games these days makes you see just how far technology has came in the last 30 years.. hell, even the past 10. In another 10-20 years I can't even imagine the technologies they will incorporate in games.
Imagine taking still shots of inanimate objects from different angles and having a game engine fill in the blanks and make it a real 3D asset in game. We are already seeing things like that in Unreal Engine 5. Making games that look amazing is going to get easier and easier and photo realism of still life isn't that hard to pull off anymore, especially if it's real footage.
When VR gets to that point and is running at 120 fps or higher I'll try it again. We already have sound vests, 3D audio, and new controllers for that tech we just need the tech of the headset itself to catch up. I'll still like traditional gaming better, but imagine playing on something barely any heavier than a pair of sunglasses with perhaps just a single power cord and it would be mind blowing. I give it 15-20 years and we will reach a point that is going to be hard to surpass without tapping directly into our nervous systems.. which I wouldn't be surprised if they try.. lol.
Sorry for the diversion, but to me that's what gaming and the future of gaming is all about. An ever changing art form with no limits in sight. Where graphics will eventually take a back seat to realism and AI.
If you're going purely in terms of realism and scale it's very clearly MS Flight Simulator, and it probably won't be topped for years.

Ironically, most flight-simulators interaction far exceed any other genre. It's just focused on the cockpit where literally every button has a function.
This is a detail that tends to get over-looked in favour of the exteriors. But cock, pits have very fine detail.
In the old days they tended to be 2D, but now they are fully 3D modelled to be as photorealistic as possible.
Gotta go with Microsoft Flight Simulator from what I’ve seen. Looks absolutely stunning. Forza Horizon 5 looks really amazing as well. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looks great too. Also have to give a shoutout to Guilty Gear Strive. Arc System Works can sure pump out the visuals in their games.
I'd agree with Flight Sim. It was the first game in a long time to really floor me with its visuals.
In terms of "traditional" games, there are a few that are pretty close IMO.
Metro Exodus and Division 2 have great looking environments. been playing Days Gone on PC and that looks great as well. Haven't played it yet, but the character models in TLOU2 look insane. Cyberpunk 2077 can look incredible at times but pretty bad at others.
probably forgetting some others at a similar level.
overall, probably go with RDR2 on PC though. It just does everything extremely well even if other games top it in specific areas.
Lets stop pretending that its flight sim, a game that runs at 37fps on a 6k rig. That game doesn't deserve to be mentioned. Real graphics kings are alway on Sony systems.
@casey-wegner: so you're just going to trash anyone else's opinion that doesn't go with your circle jerk?
Flight simulator and FH5
Any other answer is lies, though you may like other art styles, any other answer still lies
Ignoring MS Flight Simulator, it's probably RDR2 on a beefy PC.
Cyberpunk? Isn't that game still too buggy to be graphics king? Game looks great until someone spawns in a wall, walk through your car or randomly gets launched in the air from nothing.
RTX 3090,I9 1190K pc rig is like a sh¿t in MSF 2020 (microsoft sim.flight 2020)

The optimization is to blame and not the hardware. It will be running a lot better soon anyway.
on the ps5 it's a toss up between tlou2 and r&c. both look fantastic in their own right. rdr2 is the best looking game i've seen on pc. i think head to head, tlou2 is a bit more detailed and polished but in a linear setting whereas rdr2 has the huge open world scale, so it's difficult to separate them. looking forward to the ps5 patch which i assume (hope) rockstar are working on 🤞
Lol do people actually play Flight Sim? I could get into it if they had events or maybe fighter aircraft. But no just no.
Control is jawdropping in motion
Its more its physics/particle effect that are jawdropping in motion. The rest is aight.
On Console:
On PC & console:
So it looks like Ratchet is the graphics king, and all of it is done on a $400 console. What is the point of a computer with a $1000 gpu again? Not to play graphics kings, that's for sure.
Cartoony looking games don't count , since is much easier to make things that aren't real look better , but even like that it can't runt at 60/4K native with Raytracing

The X is getting beat by a cartoony looking game🤣The saddest part is that Microsoft has absolutely nothing to counter it. From generation to generation, Sony has been clapping Microsoft even with weaker hardware. Its really sad.

Sony just has the most people online crusading for them with petitions and the like, certainly not buying Playstations as Switch sales prove.

Switch sales don't prove anything because its parents buying em for their kids. Same situation as the waggle machine/Wii and the 3DS.

Did you even read what i said? "parents buying em for their kids" Moms and dad buys em for their kindergarden child, sets up and account for them and you get that graph, which is perfectly accurate. And don't pretend like you didn't knew this.
Some core gamers buy the system as well, but ONLY as their secondary, and never EVER their primary system of choice. Nintendo offering are simply not good enough to approach pc, ps5 or even the X.

don't know why people keep saying tlou2, its good looking, the character models are spot on, but even on ps5 tlou2 loses to ghost of tsushima in terms of visuals.
