For all the current-gen console owners out there (those who own either a PS3, 360, Wii, or all of them), was it worth it? Do you think it's been worth the cash thus far or have there been too many disappointments?

I don't own any yet but I'm not really pleased with how any have progressed thus far. PS3 doesn't have that many good games yet at all (will change in late 2007 - all of next year) and is too expensive, Wii also doesn't have many good games yet (will change late 2007 - all of next year) and 360 doesn't seem worth buying yet with hardware problems and most major games heading to another system.

That's my thoughts atm though, but I have very high hopes for this gen and expect it to be as good as last gen, but I don't think the fun is going to really get going till later this year.

What about you current-gen console owners? Was it worth the cash? What do you guys think?

Wii has lackluster games and 360 games don't appeal to me. PS3s price is an auto-repellent, but this is just my opinion.

No. I have a Xbox 360 and other then Star Trek Legacy basically everything that is mulitplat is better on my PC. There are very few exclusive games that have my interest and although Gears of War was great it is now coming to the PC as well. I should have just waited. That said I think it will be worth it when Halo 3 comes out.

Yeah, I have to say it's been worth it. The good news for you though is that when you do make the jump, alot of really good titles are starting to get cheaper. For 360 anyway, I don't know about the Wii or Ps3.

I have all three, here are my comments on each console:

PS3 - Very nice and easy to access multimedia functionality but games are pretty limited. I only have one game, the only one I thought was worth buying, RFOM which is a pretty good shooter. Games haven't been flowing out for the PS3 lately, but when I bought my PS3 I knew this would happen. I didn't buy my PS3 for the games out right now, more for the future so I don't mind the drought. The online has alot of potential to trump XBOX LIVE, but currently it's pretty standard. Overall rating = C+

Wii - Quick fun is a good way to describe it. Games so far are even more lackluster than the PS3's library and much like why I bought my PS3, I bought my Wii for it's future titles. Online is not really even an aspect for the Wii. Though I haven't used VC yet, it's a very nice feature. Overall rating = C-

XBOX 360 - The games out right now can are excellent and can sustain you through those long droughts which is awesome. I had a hardware failure on me once though but since then I've been fine. Future titles look very promising. It has good multimedia functionality, but not the complete package like the PS3. Excellent sense of community and organization through XBOX LIVE but many games can be very laggy.Overall rating = B+

At this point in time, I feel I've justified my expenditure plenty. This means, if somehow Ms stopped supporting the 360 all of a sudden, I wouldn't feel ripped off. I'd feel angry, but not ripped off.

I'm not sure if the Wii is worth 250 US$ yet. Sure, Zelda: TP, Super Paper Mario, and RE4: Wii edition are all solid titles, but that's only three games so far. However, the future looks very promising. SSBB, Battalion Wars 2, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and more. I can't wait. The Xbox 360 is already worth it provided that you're not a PC gamer. (Take out the X360/PC multiplats, and all that's left that I'm interested in is Mass Effect and GTA IV. And chances are those will eventually come to PC as well.) As for the PS3, I can't think of any reason other than MGS4 to look into plunking down the cash for it. (Well, okay, there's all those PS2 games I missed out on, but Sony's about to make a stupid move and remove the Emotion Engine from future PS3s IIRC.) However, like the Wii and all other consoles within their first year of launch, it's bound to have a collection of killer apps a year or two from now, making it worth the price tag.

I own a PS3 and no it has obviously not been worth $600. But I didn't buy it to be worthwhile in the first 8 months I bought it to be worthwhile over 5-7 years of games, services, and features. I'd say I'll be perfectly satisfied with this fall, LBP, and Home.

360 would have been worth the $400 and service fees to its users after this fall I'd think.

The Wii.... it's hard to say if you could ever say a Gamecube was worth $250. But yeah it could be worth it after this fall when there's 4 or so decent games.

PS3's worth it already, no doubt about that. I don't know if buying other consoles would be worth it to me (perfectly happy with the one I've got), so I'm reluctant to invest in them.

As of now, not really. But with all of the games on the way in the coming months, I'm sure my Wii and 360 will see plenty of use.

So far, no. My 360 and Wii have been collecting a bit of dust and the games I'm waiting for just are taking forever to come out, especially my 360 because the out of the two games I'm waiting for that are coming to it (Resident Evil 5 and Grand Theft Auto IV) only GTAIV is coming out this year whereas my Wii gets three games that I'm waiting for (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl) all in the same year.

I don't have a PS3 yet, but I plan to make the purchase.

So far, my Wii is a complete disappointment. I mean, the only 2 games that I've really enjoyed for it are Wario Ware and Super Paper Mario. Looking at my 360, I can name you at least 20 titles which I love. So yes, I am disappointed with one of my purchases. The Wii simply isn't designed to satisfy the hardcore gamer, and I wish I would have known that before I made my purchase.

The Xbox 360 is probably one of my favorite consoles of all time so far. I've never been this drenched in quality titles over such a long period of time. It seems like I've always got at least 2-3 games to play. Obviously I don't expect the Xbox 360 to have titles like Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, all under it's wing, but those titles were few and far between. For it's consistency, I rank the Xbox 360 on-par with the N64 and SNES.

Hey congrats! Sell all those things on Ebay and get yourself the money for the PS3? Nice.

Picked it up at a good time too. Starting next month some quality PS3 games will be rolling in (Lair, Heavenly Sword, GTAIV, Uncharted, Haze, UT3 etc).

Considering my brother bought a Wii, I won't answer that. But I can certainly say getting the 360 has been worth it. Not because I'm a little arrogant and I think my console's won't break after I get them, but because I get lucky. But seriously, the 360 was worth it. If you buy a console obviously you bought it for a reason. One legit reason after another, that reason or reason(s) make it worth it.

Oh yes, I have had tons of fun in the 1,5 years I have had my 360 so far. Good games from day 1.

Definitely worth it by a mile compared to sticking with the orginal Xbox or PS2 for the same period of time.

My 360 Hell yes I swear I don't have enough money for all the games I'm going to be buying.

My Wii, I shouldn't of bought it so I could spend more money on 360 games, If Brawl doesn't have online then I'm trading it back in.

The Wii has been well worth the purchase. I've got a lot to keep me busy already, anda TON to look forward to.

Overall though, the DS is by far my console of choice over anything (PS2, GC, Wii, PC, Xbox). The DS has a plethora of games to experience, and it has only been getting better and better for the last two years. The DS is well on its way to becoming my favorite console of all time.

20!? I've only enjoyed three games on my 360 (Table Tennis, Dead Rising, Lost Planet). Do you mind giving a list of your recommended games?

I'd advise you not to list WRPGs though. Don't bother mentioning multi-player focused games or Gears of War either.

Perhaps there's a bit more variety to my taste, which would make your short list understandable.

I'll see if I can craft my list, but 20 was the estimate (these aren't recommendations):
- Bomberman Live
- Shadowrun
- Geometry Wars
- Condemned
- PGR3
- Kameo
- Perfect Dark Zero
- GRAW
- GRAW2
- Rainbow Six Vegas
- Splinter Cell: Double Agent
- Gears of War
- Dead Rising
- Viva Pinata
- Saints Row
- Oblivion
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 3
- Dead or Alive 4
- Chromehounds
- The Outfit
- Assault Heroes
- Lost Planet
- Crackdown

There are more, but I don't want to take up too much space with my list. These are all titles that I had a great time with. Italic titles are XBLA games.

I enjoy my Wii very much. I'd definately say it was worth it. I've already got four games (including Wii Sports) and I'm getting Strikers Charged on Monday.

I'll be getting a 360 as well in the coming months.

How did I forget to buy Condemned!? That game seemed pretty interesting to me. Going to keep it in my mind this time. Might think about Crackdown and Saint's Row.

I've also marked the ones I already own in red.

You didn't like Kameo? Depressing. I thought it was fantastic, and nearly on-par with Rare's past cartoony N64 efforts (Banjo, Conker, DK, etc.). I actually just recently bought the soundtrack because it was so fantastic, and I love it to death.

You may want to try Viva Pinata, if you haven't already played the demo. It's a lot of fun if you enjoy Animal Crossing, The Sims or Pokemon, as it's sort of a combination of the 3. If you have lan buddies, as in gamer friends who play splitscreen with you frequently, I highly recommend Bomberman Live. Nothing beats Bomberman, 'nuff said. :)

The rest of the unmentioned titles are either multiplayer-focused or rental worthy. I was wondering, is it because you don't have Live, or you simply dislike online/multiplayer gaming?

I actually never got around to playing Kameo for some reason. And going slightly off-topic, I've never played Twilight Princess even though I have it.

I don't have Xbox Live and I avoid multiplayer games. Haven't played one for I don't know how long. Less than a year, but definitely more than half.

That makes sense. I don't know what I'd do without Xbox Live. Without it, I could understand you being disappointed with your console.

No you should buy a console after it's been out for either 1 or 2 years, then it will have tons of games and upgrades. Waiting is agony.

- Lost Planet
- Crackdown

There are more, but I don't want to take up too much space with my list. These are all titles that I had a great time with. Italic titles are XBLA games.

How did I forget to buy Condemned!? That game seemed pretty interesting to me. Going to keep it in my mind this time. Might think about Crackdown and Saint's Row.

I've also marked the ones I already own in red.

'

Yeah you should really get Saints Row and PGR3 for that matter those are my favorite 360 titles. Saints Row deserves a 9.3...

I'm only waiting for Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Too Human ()

Halo 3 is reason enough for me to buy a 360 this year. I'll be playing it for months on end.

I guess it was worth it, but this gen has easily been the weakest yet so far. Only time will tell, I guess.

I'm have been playing Wii non stop since luanch until SSX Blur and SPM. After thoses games, the drought was huge. And I got GodFather like 3-4 weeks ago. But I kept playing mostly SSX Blur and some VC games (DKC2:D) during thoses months so it wasn't that bad. I'm overall sastifyed with my Wii and it will only get better.

xbox360 is a great console to have right now. if you take care of your zboz360 most likely it wont break and you also have a three year warrantly if it does. i have a Wii only and the only good thing about it is the VC games. i already beaten LoZ TP, SPM, GF: Blackhand edition and RE4. Good thing Prime comes next month :D PS3? i'll wait two years

My Xbox 360 is/was absolutely worth it because of all the great games and excellent online service. My Wii is about on the verge of being justified but so far I'm kind of disappointed with the huge droughts and mostly weak 3rd party games.

To be honest. No. Not at the moment. The first day I brought my PS3 I was so excited but now I'm bored as hell with my PS3. Sony PLEASE hurry up and bring me some games

What do you guys think?

the-very-best

Yeah, I love my 360 and Wii, looking foward to get a PS3 in the near future (2008 :P), and a great gaming pc when I get money

overall its been good but i am kinda of a weird gamer i played MMORPGs(daoc, Wow, Guildwars) for about five years before i decided they suck and switched to consoles up until that point i really hadn't ever played console games so this generation has been a new experience for me,

I think rpgs are what i am most worried about i really want to see more of them although there are some good ones( Oblivion, Kameo) and a surprising one(overlord i really enjoyed that and it flewunder most people'sradar) and i am mostly disappointed with the PS3 in that regard in which the PS2 was console to own last gen if you wanted rpgs but this year they only have ONE rpg coming out(folklore) which is unacceptable imo.

So yeah overall its been worth it for me as a 360 owner i haven't had any issues with my 360(hardware wise) and i think compared to my previous gaming experience of trying to keep up with PC gaming and paying monthly mmo fees i have enjoyed consoles a lot better.

Xbox 360 = Definitely worth it, has been keeping me up at night playing all the great games.

PS3 = Great DVD and Blu Ray player at the moment, considering it's one of the cheapest blu ray players and up converts DVDs, then yes, for me it's barely worth it.

Wii = Still on the fence about this purchase, but the wife thinks it is, even though she only plays it maybe once every 2 weeks, and when guests come over.
