I think first person shooters in general age horribly. The only one that comes to mind that seems to have aged somehwat gracefully is half-life. I think the Halo games will age really badly. If you dont believe me pop in Halo 1 which is a nine-year-old game and you'll see how dated it is. Also, a big part of the halo experience is its online component, but 10 years from now when all the servers are shut down, what are you going to be left with? mediorce campaigns?

Another game which is only a few years old yet is now completey outdated is Twilight Princess. Literally EVERYTHING about the game is outdated. Outdated graphics, animation, control (waggle instead of 1.1 like SS), score (midi instead of real orchestra), etc. When it was released it was already like a blast from the past. 10 years from now? I dont even wanna think about it

Halo: Combat Evolved is still a lot of fun. If you don't believe me pop in Halo 1 which is a nine-year-old game and you'll see how great it is.

And this is something bad I guess???

Too bad for the graphic whores, I know I'll still play 8-bit games in ten years and won't be bothered abouttheir "aged" graphs.

Funny you should say that, TC, as I am currently playing through the entire Halo series for the "mediocre campaigns" mind you. :P At this point, I can say they still look pleasing to the eye. As for games in general, gameplay > graphics. That's all I'll say.

Resident Evil 5 based solely on the way characters are controlled. It already felt outdated when it came out.

Since you mentioned graphics I would say DS games will Age the worst graphically considering how they look bad currently.

GTA 4 I think. As much as I love the game, the past two years haven't been very graceful to GTA 4, and after playing RDR, the controls feel borderline intolerable, and the game looks a lot uglier.

From a fun point of view, I can still pop in Goldeneye and have a blast. But yeah, I guess I can see why some old games dont age well graphicaly. The only syestem that I think still looks great today is the SNES because of its 2D sprite style of graphics. You have lower expectations going into games liek that comapred to 3D games, and the colord are bright and nice.

Its ahrd to say without knowing what our console games are gonna look like 10 years from now because we could have a potential 2 gens in 10 years, assuming when we know this one is going to end and if gens from now on go back to ending after 5 years.

EFLC featured a checkpoint system, and it automatically makes GTA 10xs better. The lack of checkpoints really annoyed me in GTA4. :x

Fable 2 graphically. Although I loved the artstyle in some areas, others let it down big time - too much blur as well! Saying that, I finished the main quest today and absolutely loved it - awesome experience :) but the poor graphics in some areas ruined some of the immersion.

most games this gen that are FPS, TPS and most casual games. dark and gritty games will die out because there wont be anyone that plays them by then. casual games are a fad so they will die along with it. i hear 90% of everyone here will stop playing games when every console uses motion. in 2015, i predict a 2nd Video game crash because of that.

Would it be worth it to just skip GTA4 and play the standalone expansions? I always hear great things about them, especially compared to GTA4. Would I have any idea what's going on?

You don't need a knowledge of the story to have understand the expansions'. They're each like a separate story, but taking place around the same time as all 3 games (I class them as separate). I didn't actually complete GTA4's story before I played TLAD, and still really really enjoyed it gameplay/plot wise. If it helps, just read a summary of GTA's plot, because there is a plot line in each which occurs in all 3 - but you should be fine :)

Any game with its selling point being mainly graphics: Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3 ... dare I say it? Crysis. Games like Okami and Zelda Wind Waker are going to age pretty well because of artistic designs of the games.

Its one of the advantages of going for a specific artstyle. Pretty much anything that goes for realistic graphics ages very poorly. Look at early CoD/MoH games, for example. Realistic graphics do well when that's the best you can do, but ten years down the line, they look cheesy and a little sad.

Games focused too much on graphics and being like a movie. Sure Uncharted 2 feels like a movie right now but ten years from now every game may as well be a movie. It'll be the games like Portal and Fallout 3 that will be remembered.

What are you on tc? Halo CE still plays better than both 2 and 3 and has a very good campaign. And while TP might age on wii because of the crappy controls, the superior and "true" gc version will not.

When it comes to gameplay I think most current games will be ok. That being said, I think a lot of PS/360 games will age terribly in the graphics department, as having "realistic" graphics always ends up being a drawback in later years.

This topic wins because no one has mentioned Mario :) . Say what you will about Mario, but Mario games never age poorly. The original Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and now Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 simply don't age. Most Nintendo games don't age poorly in fact, and I attribute that to an emphasis on cartoony visual design (not necessarily a bad thing like many believe), and strong gameplay, and this is the reason you can go back and play Star Fox 64 or the original Metroid and still enjoy them almost as much as you did when they first came out.

I played through a legendary run of Halo two weeks ago, and the only things dated are the graphics. It still plays like a modern shooter, probably because most modern shooters co-opt Halo's gameplay mechanics.

Not that you are wrong...but I play Halo CE on my original Xbox still to this day and TO ME it still holds its own with any game.I honestly just do see any huge leaps in graphics since then. Sure they look shiny now, but so what?? I play all the old Ghost Recon games still as well. I will still play them 10 years from now probably more so then I play all the other games "trying" to be just like them. To each their own I guess..

Probably Uncharted 2. One of the big catches of the game is the amazing graphics and the way the story is told. Graphics age, and a story can only be told so many times. The game also has quite a bit of shooting. While there is nothing wrong with it right now, Uncharted's style may get old within the next 10 years ( I imagine that dual analog will sooner or later be replaced by pointer). And as for the climbing stages, those have been appearing in a quite a few games recently. I guess you can think of it like Goldeneye (people complain about it's control style, but if pointer rules the day, people will complain about dual analog of U2)

Super realism games don't age well. Games with stylised visuals look good for years. Which is why super old games from the Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive look win.
