Cyberpunk 2077 release date is "Years away"

"As seen in the brief interview below between the YouTuber known as YongYea and Cyberpunk 2020 creator Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be ready when CD Projekt Red is prepared to put it out, which could be beyond 2020. As stated by Pondsmith, “I’ve waited 30 years to get to this and it was worth it. You guys can wait a few more years, it will be worth it,” implying that it may still be a ways off from release".

Most annoying part of E3 is developers showing off games years before they are ready. Cyberpunk 2077 was originally announced in 2012 and yet it's still not even close to a release date.

An in engine demo might as well be CGI these days, not that the trailer was actually impressive or anything just saying.

It's just a movie until gameplay is shown and obviously, if everyone is SO amazed by what they saw behind closed doors, the game looks far beyond what they showed us in their cinematic trailer.

The trailer wasn't even in first person perspective so the trailer is unrepresentative of what the game actually is and means jack shit.

The build they showed was probably optimized for a 1080 which CDPR probably feel will be equivalent to next gen consoles which no games have been developed for so far and why everyone were blown away. The game will look nothing special once console exclusives start appearing.

Why show a game if it’s like 5 years away?

I'm guessing early-mid 2020.

Best they hit a PS5s launch before Sony release any significant AAA exclusives like Horizon 2 (I doubt it'll be a launch title).

It wouldn't be a favorable comparison to be sure with Sony devs coding to the metal of the hardware for what will be equivalent to 1080TI level power in console form.

I wonder what will come out first Cyberpunk 2077, Star Citizen or Final Fantasy 7 remake.

I think they’d like to release this in 2020 for obvious reasons. Anyway I thought the trailer they showed off at E3 was looked amazing and from the sound of it people who saw the backstage stuff where very impressed so I have faith that they’ll deliver a fantastic game whenever it comes out.

@stereointegrity: They can't not release it on these platforms now that they've said they are... CDPR wouldn't do that I don't think.

It'll probably be updated/enhanced in the future for the next consoles.

i know they are held to a godly standard, but things can change. with next gen either at the end of next year or 2020, i doubt they make it for 5 systems instead of just 3

The only reason they show behind to close door so journalists can build hype among audience. because game is not coming out any time soon so people can get hype and never forget about this game.

They were saying the demo looked slightly worse than the trailer we saw but they were amazed by the styling and detail of the world.

This isn't rocket science, Cyberpunk 2077 was always years away. This is ambitious game. Anyone assume it's gonna release like next year or so is fooling themselves.

CDPR can take all the time they need for all I care, I got plenty of games and upcoming games to worry about Cyberpunk 2077.

Sounds like they are putting everything they have into the project and they want it to be the best they can make it and something they can be proud of.

I don't see the problem, nobody knows how long something it going to take to make, they probably though it was gonna take ~4 years like a standard game, but when does anything ever go to plan?

i want it now but this game might even surpass the witcher 3 so let them have as much time as they need.

? How long have you been waiting for Crackhead 3? Sony showed HZD and GOW in 2015 and 2016 respectively and those games are out lol. You've been waiting for Crackhead 3 since they showed the trailer in 2014, longer still if you count the years its actually been in development.

I've been hearing a lot of rumours about CP2077 being released this year shortly after E3. The only basis being that they praised Bethesda for their marketing of Fallout 4 and people think that CDPR is going to do something similar with CP2077. As I expected an in-engine trailer for CP2077 this E3 and maybe a little gameplay demo which they have shown but definitely no release date any sooner.

A humoungous game made by a dev that takes its' time and a game we still haven't seen any gameplay from. We just heard it's supposed to be an FPS.

I'm not even a tiny bit surprised.

The demo they showed was running on a i7 8700K and a GTX 1080Ti. The game was running at 30fps with dips. The developer is waiting on tech to catch up with their vision. A current console version of Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t even worth their or our time at this point. Let’s wait a few years and get the game we all want. (Well except for next gen console gamers who will be playing at 30fps with dips)

Better later than now with a major downgrade like W3.

1. 30 years in gaming or anything technology related is not realistic, so what is he talking about? That would have been 1988. what games did you have in 1988?

2. how does he know its worth it if its still years away from being completed?

@brah4ever: Not surprising , considering that so far all they have shown is a pre-rendered CGI trailer and a engine demo highly scripted for closed doors.

Also if the rumours are correct, the next gen console is around the corner, it´s not like they are going to release it on this generations console.

At least Star citizen is playable today, it may be a few years before they reach 1.0 but we can play it now.

The Witcher 3 "downgrade" was actually pretty minor, unless you expected consoles to be running it like the E3 trailer. On PC it didn't take long for Mods to upgrade it again.

Cross gen will obviously be the aim I can't see this coming next year.

Nah it won't be that long, sure they like to take time to perfect the game but CDPR is also a business, they have NO games to release AFAIK beyond 2077, so that means no major REVENUE from 2018 to 2020+. I dont think they like to upset their investors and shareholders that much lol

CDPR is known to push its devs to burn the weekends to meet release dates, look at The Witcher 3. They are going to do the same for 2077, like everybody else. They are good with gamers but they are not exactly angels to their own employees.

Dont forget 2077 is supposed to be a FPS immersive game, they cannot afford to release it when the gfx inevitably gets more and more dated.
